A huge branch had broken off of a tree in our front yard. A tree trimmer came and not only trimmed that branch off, he looked around our yard and spotted a few more dead branches (nestled among dozens of large healthy, leafy ones) that I hadn't noticed, and took care of those as well. He was quick, and didn't charge me too much. Would definitely recommend him, and thumbtack as well. many thanks

Theae guys are amazing! Within the same hour or so of reaching out for the service they were at my house hauling away a truckload of limbs from tree storm damage. Really friendly and FAST. I would for sure call them again. They were even going to rake and sweep from the limbs but our dog was being a pain so we said it wasn't necessary. Thanks for amazingly fast and efficient setvice!

Had Jason's do some high branch trimming on one tree and remove a large maple that was starting to rot and overhanging the neighbors place. They did a great job on both, fully met and exceeded my expectations, very timely and did it for (I believe) a very fair price. A family business, they have the right tools and attitude to get the job done. I would hire them again without hesitation.

The job was tree and branch removal and trimming. All elements of the job were completed as directed at a very reasonable price. I didn't see anything that needed improvement.

We had two 35 foot trees removed with their stumps and three other trees shaped at a very reasonable price. Did the job in less than a full day. Very clean afterwards. Impressed! We recommend him highly!!! We've already referring his name and number out and people said they would call him to do some work for them. We will have him back to trim the height down on the other three trees this fall. Thanks Rob and boys!

Ignacio did a great job. He was quick and efficient. He even took the time to cut up some of the bigger branches and left for us to use for firewood. They left the yard cleaner than before they got here. We'll definitely call again for future yard and tree needs. 😁

I love Troy'[s work. His design is incredible. Some people have a green thumb and a gift for making spaces beautiful; Troy is one who always sees the potential and creates it with joy and love. Troy is punctual and can design spaces on any budget. I have many friendly deer who love to any available plant or tree. Troy created a design they did not devour and is beautiful. I would highly recommend Troy; you will never be disappointed with his work. And, he does work in phases...we are adding to his design from last year. I am so excited. He is on time and on budget always. Julie Evans

I highly recommend Warne Tree Service. We hired them to remove a large tree and trim several others. We were impressed by the quality of their work, and felt the price was more than fair. In addition, they were incredibly kind and professional. They let our young boys help a little (when appropriate), and were very kind and patient with them. The boys were in awe and had so much fun. We are very happy with the results, and highly recommend them to others.

About

We have all the booms, cranes, dump trucks, chippers, and stump grinders needed to take care of a job. We also purchased one of the new spiderlifts last year that go through a backyard gate and are self propelled and track driven, so they don't damage lawns. It will lift us up 50 feet, plus we can still climb to get where we need to be. Most of the work we do comes from referrals and repeat customers.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
