About this pro

How does your business stand out?

There are few things. First, I am passionate about the dogs AND the people. I get so excited when people want a well behaved dog. Second, I am constantly learning. I learn from teaching my own dogs and from reading and going to educational seminars that teach me better techniques or how to refine what I already know. Third, I use positive training methods for both the dog and owners.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Seeing the light go on for the owner of the dog and then seeing the owner turn their dog's light on. It is a rewarding "ah ha" moment for everyone.

The best place to train you and your best friend
I started with obedience for my puppy and did 2 levels. I liked it so much we continued with a trick class, Nose Work classes and Canine Good Citizen. I now have another new puppy and we are doing obedience class now also. Class size was perfect and got the personal attention we needed to be successful. Went to 2 others for different class and saw their other classes this only caused me to be happy we trained at Happy Acres.

Tawnya taught our 9 month old lab basic obedience training. She did an amazing job. While we chose the intensive 3 week boarding option, I was reticent to leave my baby ANYWHERE for that long of a period. Once we arrived at Happy Acres and met Tawnya and her husband, I was immediately put at ease. Her facility is immaculate and very impressive. She is professional and kind and transparent in her methodology and expectations. I would recommend Happy Acres to anyone and we fully expect to use Tawnya for future training.

I am a veterinarian and in March 2015 Tawnya boarded and trained 2 eleven week old Labrador Retriever puppies while I was gone on a trip for 12 days. I returned to 2 puppies that were leash trained, would sit, lay down, roll over and stand on command. They are both well on their way to being excellent canine citizens. Tawnya trains by all positive reinforcement and I would recommend her 100% for help with dogs and puppies of any size or age. Her facility is top notch and well worth a little extra driving.

I have a terrier mix named Teddy. We went through 4 beginning obedience training classes before we met Tawnya. I didn't feel he could move forward. I could not teach him to down or come or focus on me. After one session with Tawnya, he learned to down and stay down and come when called all with positive methods. We were able to move on to intermediate then rally classes. I have never competed prior to now but with the confidence that she has given us through training, we have given it a try and he is doing very well. In addition, he has had issues with bikes and being dog reactive. Tawnya went out of her way, outside of the classroom, to help me with these issues, again, using positive methods only. He still gets pretty excited with bikes, but I now know how to keep him focused on me and the yummy cookie in my hand. The training sessions with Tawnya were fun and both my dog and myself looked forward to our classes.

I highly recommend Tawnya with Happy Acres. We adopted our puppy and were clueless, thanks to Tawnya we had him potty trained and behaving in no time!! We went through her training session and learnt so much!!! We happen to have a vacation planed and Tawnya took care of our little guy while we were gone. I was truly amazed at how much he learned while we were gone. If you have a puppy or even a adult dog that needs some training please use Tawnya with Happy Acres you will love it!!!

Tawnya does an great job working with our dog and our daughter. Tawyna is able to break down the training steps to a level that our 10 year old daughter can follow and then do the training at home. IT is always a positive environment for our whole family.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, there are seminars and classes taught by the top trainers, behaviorists and veterinarians all the time. My goal is to go to a seminar or training session each quarter.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up showing and training shelties. Then I went away to college, got a job, got married, bought a yellow lab puppy and then read "Marley and Me." I panicked and swore my puppy was going to be the best dog ever... and she is.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Teaching students how to connect with their dog so they can teach their dog basic obedience skills with positive methods of training. Board and Train - I take people's puppies and work on socialization and basic obedience skills for two weeks at my center.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I had the opportunity to board two, 12 week old, lab puppies. These girls were cute and eager to learn! When they went home they could: sit, down, stand like a show dog, walk on a leash, roll over and "off."
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask questions! Go and watch a class or a private lesson. Most importantly, you are the voice for your dog. Speak up and take charge if someone is doing something to your dog you disagree with!
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
There are new and better ways to train dogs then what people have traditionally learned. Often people ask why change what is working? My response is, "why use a LAN line when you can use an iPhone?" Both work, but one pecan give you more and better options and it is efficient at what it does.
