She was great! Took care of all 3 of my dogs and my fish when I went out of town for work. The house so clean and no dog mess and she even texted me every time she went and left and send me photos daily of the pets. I would use her again and pass her along to everyone I know to use her

Katie Bender has done house sitting for us on several occasions for up to one week at a time. Her responsibilities include general housekeeping, plants and pet care (cats &dogs). We've always been pleased and satisfied with her work. It's so nice to return home and find everything in great shape!

Celeste was great with my pets. I have a St. Bernard so he is quite large. Celeste had no problems with doing all the tasks I asked her to do. I also have 3 cats that she took care of while I was away. I will definitely call her again to pet sit as she is very dependable.

I like leaving my lab, King, with big dog little kitty pet care when I have to leave town because I know he's on his own vacation when he's with them. They are very accommodating, and he always has another dog or person to play with!

About

Why send your pets to a boarding facility when they can be part of a family in your absence? Make their vacation just as fun & relaxing as yours. You will find that I truly love caring for my guests and really enjoy giving them a home away from home while you and your family are away. Although I do this out of my home, I am a fully licensed commercial dog kennel through the State of Iowa. I have 12 years professional experience which includes doggie day care/ obedience training work, administering medications, light first aid, bathing, and dog foster care. Our home is typically calm, quiet, and also completely smoke free. We have a fenced backyard (6' privacy fence). We have a dog run leading from under our deck out to a separate fenced area that provides shade and also to help us keep the main area of our yard clean. Our front and back gates are locked from the inside, keeping your baby safe. Your dog will enjoy our home as a member of our own family. His (or her) days would include lots of love and snuggles, belly rubs, games of fetch and laser chasing. Our guests are treated to cool, breezy naps on the screened porch during spring and fall, A/C in the summer, or resting beside the fire when they need to warm frosty little noses. I am sure to maintain the diet you provide, and exclude anything that you are uncomfortable with (i.e. snacks, treats, and/ or "cookies"). I make sure that your pet stays well hydrated via many well placed bowls of fresh water ready to be slurped up at a moments notice. You will be able to take home a very happy pet that has burned off lots of energy, leaving you and your family to enjoy your evening or return home. I am happy to accept all breeds (once I can observe your pet's good temperament at a meet and greet) so long as your pet is compatible with all other pets and young children. All dogs MUST be comfortable with and able get along well with other dogs. They must not have any aggression issues regarding toys, food, or other items. While I do accept larger dogs. I am not sure that the largest/ most active ones will be a good fit, as we do have limited space. You are welcome to take a look at my photos & videos of Facebook at Pampered Pups Pet Sitting. I do not take puppies that are not used to being around other dogs & are not 100% potty trained, or dogs that bark excessively.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
