"Henry and Serena are wonderful. They cleaned our daughters 5 bedroom apartment, where she and her roommates had lived for 2 years, after she moved out. Henry and Serena were on time, thorough and professional. I contacted them thru Thumbtack and they promptly got an estimate to me and were able to work within my time constraints. They were also easy to communicate with via email, text and phone (which was great since we do not live near the apartment). I would HIGHLY recommend using Henry and Serena's cleaning service and would be happy to share photos of the job (can't figure out how to post them here). Sue"

"We called Jaun in the morning and he responded very quickly. He was at our house after lunch time and viewed our lawn needs. His estimate was very reasonable and we accepted his services. He mowed and trimmed to our complete satisfaction. We scheduled a weekly appointment for lawn care and inquired about snow removal. He has it available and I am sure we'll use his services when the white stuff arrives. Jaun was very friendly and professional as well as thorough. It was a pleasure having him do our yard work."

"We did an onsite visit and then Sherrie has cleaned our home once. She was very professional and thorough. She cleaned our house better in four hours than my husband and I have ever managed to do. We have two cats and there was not a trace of cat hair on our hardwood floors when I got home that evening. We are working out a regular schedule going forward and I feel very lucky to have found her!"

"Gwen is wonderful to work with. She arrived on time and had all supplies on hand to get my house clean in time for my in laws visit. Her attention to detail is impeccable. Since her first clean we have had her in once a month to help us maintain the cleanliness of our home. The name Above and Beyond is spot on and do recommend her to everyone I can. Thanks Gwen!"

"I was especially impressed with this company working for me, because they went over and beyond I even imaged and some. I needed my new house cleaned after all the contractors left in the construction cleanup process. I met these ladies and was instantly hooked. Not only was I hooked but I was impressed beyond belief. I needed help packing, unpacking and organizing my home and business. I was overwhelmed and throwing up my hands in the air. I have the girls the reigns and they together nailed it. They have brought such peace to my life sooner than I could even imagine. I also enjoy working with them on other projects as they know without any hesitation how to tackle the worst project a person could imagine and give it a whole new light. These girls deserve millions of customers. They don't even realize how good they really are that's the best part and I entirely grateful to get the pleasure to call on anytime and they come running to help put my fire out. You go girls!! Thanks a lot! - Sarah"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.

How much does a move-out cleaning cost?

Moving is hard enough work even before you have to clean the empty home to perfection. Instead of scrubbing your tile grout with a toothbrush, hire a professional cleaning company to provide move-out cleaning services for you. For moving out of an apartment, cleaning prices can range from $110 to $150. When scheduling a move-out cleaning, talk with the pro and confirm all the key points they will clean to ensure you receive your deposit back.

Important areas to have cleaned include the fridge interior, the oven interior, bathroom tile, the shower and tub, all blinds, and sometimes the walls. Some cleaning companies do not quote a flat rate for a move-out cleaning, as the number of hours it may take to clean structurally identical apartments could vary greatly depending on how clean or dirty the inhabitants were. For example, move-out house cleaning prices may range from $150 to $180 for one- or two-bedroom apartments.
