WOW!!! Reans Property Management is amazing. I found Reans here on Thumbtack and was a bit hesitant not knowing anything about them. They were so quick to respond and come out at a convenient time for the quote. Their price beat others, but that wasn't the main reason we chose them. James was professional, kind and knowledgeable. I felt confident with him on the job. The employees who came and completed our remodel were amazing. Some of the nicest people I have ever worked with. Seiously, they brought our garbage bin in from the curb on garbage day!!! That was above and beyond for sure. They were respectful and courteous always. The project was a large remodel project, taking two rooms and making them into one, and took just under 4 weeks. I would hire Reans again for our next project. I cannot load before pictures but will update if I figure it out.

Grant did a complete demo and remodel on my main bathroom. He ripped out the tub and old closet; replaced them with a jet tub and beautiful glass and tile surround with wire shelving. He tore up the outdated tile flooring and replaced it was a stunning Italian tile. My bathroom is not old updated but outstandingly beautiful. Thank you for our amazing new bathroom that I can spend hour relaxing the stress of the day away in.

My husband & I wanted to have our basement framed. I contacted several contractors. Jovan of Blackstone Handy Services, LLC was great. He was the first to get back to me. He was out to our home to complete an estimate and, was working on the job before we even had return calls from a few of the other contractors. He and his helper were finished with the work in less then 2 days. We will definitely be working with him again soon. He is currently working on bids for our plumbing, electricity, and drywall too.

I also work in the trades and have worked with Joe on a number of different rehab/remodel projects over the last few years. Joe is the most diverse and skilled contractor I've ever been around. His work is efficient and his attention to quality borders on obsessive. Joe is not only a great contractor, but also an excellent Christian minister and leader. His trustworthiness, honesty and professional demeanor are refreshing in an industry typically devoid of those attributes. If I needed help with any of my own projects, Joe is the first guy I would call. -Jacob C.

These two are fabulous! Initially I hired them to make an entryway larger by cutting out a partial wall and installing a new light. They did such a fantastic job that I hired them to complete my renovation on the bathroom (including fixing other contractors mistakes). They are meticulous in their work, do not overestimate, and most importantly they want to make sure the client is happy with the end result. I also had to go out of town for a few days and felt extremely comforatable with them working in my house while I was away. I am so happy with my new entryway and beautiful bathroom. I cannot say enough good things about these two and I will definitely be hiring them for more projects.

Very impressed with this contractor. Came out same day as I called and was willing to offer different options to complete the repair at the best cost. Finished job quickly and prices very reasonable. Will definitely use this contractor for other projects.

242 was used by us because of the consideration by Severn for his employees. This decision came about because snow was on our roof at that time the job was being quoted by selected contractors and one contractor was willing to broom the snow off and start his employees working immediately. When I discussed the same point with Severn, he said, "I would not work on a roof that had just been swept clean of snow and I will not ask my employees to do it either." I made a decision to use 242 to replace our roof at that point. The list of clients provided that already had our specific shingle installed was very helpful in making the final decision. It allowed me to see the quality of the product being used and the quality of the work performed for other clients of 242. The men doing the work were very professional. We have been happy with their work since the job was finished. Don & Kathy W Moline, IL

Done Done wasn't the cheapest compared to other offers I received, but the cost shows in the quality of work and professionalism.

6 STARS. I am out of state and needed a trustworthy honest person to help me complete a complex remodel for my Mother. Rock Solid Construction delivered more than even I, as a skeptical perfectionist, was expecting. Rock Solid Construction showed courtesy, respect and care for my property and my Mother?, knowing I was not there to observe first hand, and was honest with both communication and offered solutions to critical issues that were discovered during the remodel. If there were 6 Stars I would want to award them 7.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
