Rob came and repaired a sprinkler line, as well as moving 2 heads. The area he moved the lines was an unusual positioning and difficult to do without harming bushes. The work was done quickly and well in less than desirable weather. From initial contact to completion was a very short window and Rob stayed in pretty tight communication. I would definitely recommend his work.

Job was to replace bed boards that won't stay in place under mattress, and to raise the mattress level to facilitate easier sheets changing. Lonnie was punctual and called me so I had a little heads up as to his approximate arrival time (as per my request). He listened to my problem, looked at the situation and very quickly assured me he can do the job. He did not have to purchase more boards I had thought were needed. He cut the shorter boards to raise the mattress level and had the bottom wider boards in place. It is a wonderful arrangement because now the mattress is easily lifted at the corners to allow easier bed changing and also there is better ventilation underneath and the boards support the mattress evenly throughout. The job was done very quickly, much faster than I had thought it would take. Lonnie's personal temperament is much cherished, and the confidence I'd already felt about his professionalism and honesty is well-placed. His rate is very fair and best among his peers. Lonnie restored my faith about hiring professionals unknown to me nor recommended by friends or family. I would certainly recommend him highly to all looking for handyman jobs.

Great experience with Jim at Inside-Out. Hired him to replace our front door (full frame). Had lots of reservations about using someone that I hadn't yet met or even heard of before, but Jim was very courteous, respectful, professional, and did great work to boot. After installation I noticed something that seemed amiss so I reached out to Jim, got a helpful response almost immediately (within 10 minutes) and he was back out to make it right first thing the next morning. Very impressed with his dedication to ensuring the job is done right, which was important to me when I started looking for someone to do the job. Would recommend Jim and his work for any project around the house. Thanks again, Jim!

Armando Palomo and his staff painted the exterior of my two story condo. I was so happy with the time and attention to detail they provided. They were all very professional, courteous and friendly. They treated my home as though it was their own. I couldn't be happier with the results. They took there time doing the prep work and replaced split and warped pieces as I had asked them to. Believe me there was a lot. They were ALWAYS here when they said they would be (something I have rarely experienced with a lot of contractors) and made me feel as though my home was as important to them as it is to me. They made my home look new! I would like to thank Armando, Annette, Reuben, Damian and Ryder for everything they did. They way they treated me and my family was just as impressive as the way they treated my home. Thank you guys! I definitely will be calling again when I am ready to do anymore painting...exterior or interior!

The job we thought was a simple one .... Just turning on sprinkler system...was not! After we hired Ed we found out many issues were wrong and problems from previous owners of our home... We purchased home in December 2015....sprinklers system was not covered in our home warranty..... So we were worried about having to spend lots of $& to get it all up and running again!! Well Ed did a Great job! He is very knowledgeable in fixing what previous owners messed up! He had to replace parts, adjusted auto sprinklers, set timers, and came back several days to make sure all was running well! Ed is a very kind, and thorough person and made sure we were happy with his work!! He is very reasonable in his prices too! Not charging for everyday he had to come back!! We will definitely have him back to maintain our sprinkler system! Thanks Ed for a job well done!!

I called upon Ron Alexander, proprietor of Treasure Valley Revival, LLC for a storm door replacement. First of all, I wish to say Ron is such a kind, yet magnanimously intelligent, and very skilled craftsman. What drew me to hire Ron was his expertise in design work. I called Ron and he was over to our home within the hour as he stated he would be. A very pleasant man to talk with while he diligently removed our old storm door, and then replaced with a storm door I supplied him with. He took no time at all, and I know I received a very fair bid, as well as a well-crafted replacement storm door. Ron certainly measured up to the challenge, and his work was of grand quality! I would recommend Ron, and absolutely I will hire Ron Alexander, again.

John and his crew did a beautiful job on my kitchen! Theresa even searched and got me a gorgeous slab of granite at a cheaper price! They installed a set of new cabinet and hand built a butcher Block top! Tile floors, granite counters, all new cabinets, quickly done. New windows installed required refraining and they did a good job. Any little fixes got taken care of promptly and efficiently. Highly recommended!

I had Lonnie repair a stone that had fallen out of stonework on the front of my garage. He did an excellent job replacing the stone to match the existing stone work at a very fair price. Upon replacing the stone he found several others that that were loose and mortared those in also. It wasn’t a big job or big money, and I think a lot of masonry companies wouldn’t want to even fool with. I would highly recommend Lonnie, and his company “Creations with Stone” of Nampa Idaho.

Rick answered me back within a couple of hours. I made an appointment with him for the next day. Rick showed up and was very knowledgeable. He showed me his contractors license and actually sent me the number in text. Rick told me that when my husband and I were done checking out his license and felt satisfied with our finds that he would be glad to make an appointment for the project. We did hire him to install our bathroom window and fix the window and decaying wall around it. He also installed an exhaust fan and fixed some chipped wall around my closet doors. I usually do all of the projects myself as a women due to my husband working all of the time. Rick was nice enough to show me some tricks about how to do repairs. He is very nice and very good at his job. I personally feel that for all of the work he did that his price was super good. Rick also went to the hardware store and took pictures of everything we needed so that we knew exactly what to buy. Excellent service. I will hire him again.

Jayme, The son of a painter, did a beautiful job on my exterior trim, door, shutters and window frames! I had injured my shoulder and could not finish a job I had started. It was well worth it to me to pay him to do the job.I believe he did a better job than I could have done myself....& in less time. I have always done my own painting but plan to use him in the future for interior painting. Thank you, Jayme!

We had several repair issues needed on our new (to us) home including Windows that wouldn't close, lights that kept burning out, and a drafty heat vent. Eric fixed it all! Great price and exceptional service. Oh, he also built a custom built in desk for my daughter that turned out amazing. I won't use anyone else.

A 40 year old split level house in need of renovation, Marc installed all new windows, replaced the roof with a new metal roof, completely renovated the bathroom with my own design of beautiful ceramic tile throughout, installed hardwood flooring throughout after removing a collapsed ceiling and replacing and finishing the new ceiling and walls. His work is meticulous and thorough, and he works fast; once he begins a job for you, he will work tirelessly and efficiently until it is completed. He considers it part of the job to clean up afterwards, and his pricing is competitive. I was happy with the entire project and Marce was pleasant and attentive to my concerns and requests. I would highly recommend Marc to anyone wanting quality, personalized work at a reasonable price, completed on time.

Zach did a complete remodel of a house we were flipping together. He replaced the carpet, added tile floors, painted both the interior and exterior, replaced a broken window, updated some electrical and plumbing, and updated the kitchen. He also completely finished a basement. It looked awesome and he was on time and on budget!

John has done many updates for me over the years. The last project was changing two small closets into one larger. He did a cedar lined closet with double layered rods and shelves! It has made organizing clothes and extra storage so simple! In the past he did a kitchen remodel, dining room and living room update and has added shelving and tile floors downstairs. I have had him replace and update my windows and front door. It is an on going project because I haven't been able to afford to do it all at one time. I have been very excited about each and every project!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

        • Trim repair:
          • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
          • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
        • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
        • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
          • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
          • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
            • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
