Peggy did a cat sit while we were out of town. She made sure to clarify all instructions ahead of time, made good notes while we were here, and provided good followup. We would recommend Peggy!

Pet sitting went well. A suggestion: keep your client updated. We trust you with our pets and house keys, it would be nice to know when you are going to our house. A text on the first and last visit would be enough.

I was headed out of state for a few days to visit family. Pam came over ahead of time to meet my pup and we chatted about her routines and her tendencies. We worked out a price and how to get her the house key and everything went smoothly. She would text me after she had been to the house to let me know how it all went, which I greatly appreciated. I would hire her again in an instant! She even does training, too!

Hannah has done pet sitting for me and has done an excellent job. She is very punctual and responsible. She met my needs and the needs of my personal pets and the fosters I entrusted in her care. (And they all loved her!) I help run a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue and had 2 feral cats in the guest room for the weekend that Hannah had to feed, water and change their litter box, which can be scary if you have ever worked with feral cats. Hannah wasn't nervous about caring for them and did a great job. I would recommend her to pet sit for anyone. She has also Helped transport animals for our rescue from Twin Falls to Boise which she was very professional about.

I absolutely trust this company with my pets.  I love that I’m dealing with the owner and appreciate how much effort he makes to make sure everything is perfect.  When I’m gone I never worry about how my furry kids will be treated.  Plus I like the fact that someone is checking up on my house too!  Highly recommend with confidence.

I fell in love and was thrilled to be able to take her home to love and nurture. From that day on, my passion for cats began and I soon discovered my innate ability to communicate with them, understand their needs and gain their complete trust. After 15 years as a Consulting Home Economist, I found my true calling as a professional Pet Sitter when I opened up Happy-at-Home Pet Sitting. It was a labor of love shared by my husband Burt who helped me to make my service a great success. Over the years, I received many letters and reviews from happy clients who complimented me on my knowledge and dedication to my profession and attention to great service. They expressed their appreciation and gratitude for how quickly I bonded with their cats, including the timid and shy ones. I have a special affinity for cats. Returning clients would often tell me that their cats were still waiting by their front door for me at my regular visit time. Others told me that upon their arrival home, their cats reaction was, "So you're back. Where's Ronni?" I am a dependable and responsible caregiver who is enthusiastic and passionate about my work. I love and pamper the cats I care for and love to see them happy when I am with them. The best thing about doing this work is that everyone is happy - the cats, the pet parents and me. In addition, I love to read the reviews my clients write about my service!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
