Brass Lawn Care fixed 10 posts on my backyard fence. They got everything done pretty quickly in one day, and they had by far the best price out of 5 other quotes. We've paid them by check and at this point in time, I am just waiting for the receipt which is to be emailed to me.

Eddy came to my house to fix a water damaged basement. I had to fix a wall and rip off around 300sqft of carpet and lay vinyl tiles I also needed to install the trims and install a closet door. Eddy did a FANTASTIC Job so patient and professional with all my requests. On the last day of job I had to leave for a party and he accomodated his schedule to leave and come back the next day to finish the work. It was really appreciated. Even the quality of work is no less then a profesional company in the market. YOu can see if for yourself in the before and after pics. I am just glad that I now have a great handyman. I am also going to employ him for some plumbing (sump pump insall) and landscaping (putting up a fence) work. He does that too and I would assume with the same level of devotion and quality with which he did my basement. In short, he is a ONE MAN ARMY in the truest sense.

After purchasing my home at the end of 2015, my husband and I hired Castle to completely revamp our new home and large corner lot. They built two large decks, took down a chain-link fence and installed a wooden one, put up drywall in the garage, planted our bushes, took down several trees, put up our rock edging, painted the entire house, installed and designed our closet system, added electrical outlets, hid the chords and mounted our televisions, and put together several pieces of furniture including our patio furniture. I loved their work. I look forward to using them in the future.

Tom and his staff was absolutely amazing! He replaced 90% of my deck and painted it. He provided a creative solution for replacing the gazebo's roof. He was on schedule with completing the project, there were no surprise expenses, and his price fit my budget. I am planning to hire him to replace my kitchen floor. If you are looking for an honest and dedicated company, hire Tom from Impact MTC!

I had 15 fence post that needed to be replaced. Steve did an amazing job. He pointed out that the fence itself was in good shape and could be reused with the new posts. I was happy to hear that cost saving news. My fence looks fantastic. Steve was very responsive when I reached out to him. I would highly recommend hiring Steve for any of your projects. As a matter of fact I have already scheduled him on another project. I look forward to another job well done.

I have a charming historic house in Hinsdale built in 1976. Was charming except for the basement, which I considered "the dungeon" until Nick recently remodeled it! It has a stone rather than poured foundation, typical of its age, that has been a problem since I moved in 30 years ago. The walls crumbled over time as mortar between the stones disintegrated. It's been very hard to find anyone who knows how to address this problem. Over the years several people put cement on the walls to stop the crumbling, but none ever did a very good job and it needed to be redone every few years. Nick Duta was the only one I met, who seemed to know what to do with it. I was impressed from the start at how extremely detailed and complete his proposal was. His crew spent a number of days just hammering out all the loose motor from the inside walls, and part of the outside, which no one else ever did. They dug a trench outside the house at the worst cracked wall, removing all the disintegrated mortar there, then put layers of waterproof concrete on all the inside walls and gaps in the outside wall, and sealed the outside with additional tar and foam. They also broke through the outside stair-landing concrete and installed a drain, tying it into the inside basement drain to eliminate rain water accumulating outside the door. They then repaired the existing basement floor, cracked due to water damage, putting down wire mesh and a 2 inch layer of concrete over the existing floor and then vinyl tiles. They also replaced all the galvanized plumbing pipes that I had thought was done when the house was remodeled 5 years ago by another company, but learned from Nick that they did not actually do this. Finally they put in some needed electrical outlets and built tasteful looking closets with louvre doors around all the basement utilities (Washer and Dryer, Boiler, Sump pump etc), also installing a new hot water heater and utility sink. Thanks to Nick my basement is no longer a dungeon, and now looks quite nice and is very functional. This was all done at what I believe was a fair cost. It was a pleasure doing business with Nick as he is extremely competent, honest, conscientious and hardworking. He has high standards and can address almost any infrastructure issue. He is easy to work with and attentive to one's concerns. I felt extremely lucky to have found him to do all this difficult work! I would certainly give him my highest recommendation and am hiring him again to rebuild my front staircase, a measure of my satisfaction with his work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
