Millie was great! They cleaned our 5 bedroom, 2.5 bath home in just under two hours. My dog was at ease with them as well which was a big concern of mine since he's afraid of everyone. He warmed right of to them as they are big dog lovers. This was very comforting!

I met Alaine at a dog park. I instantly saw the love she has for animals. It is very hard for me to leave my two dogs with anyone. I have a very hard time trusting people with them as most of you do. I have used her service for 1 day up to 5 days when I took a trip. She is absolutely wonderful at doing what she does. I highly recommend her. Both my dogs just love her and go crazy when she walks in the door. Do not hesitate calling her.

Shauna did a few little things that I wasn't expecting. Like send a picture of her walking my dog and a little dry erase board to write how the walk went, which was very comforting.

We are so happy we found Black Dog K9! Our 1 year-old rat terrier/dalmatian mix, Buddy, loves Marty and loves his dog Ida! I can't say enough wonderful things about our experience with Black Dog. Before we started training with Marty, we struggled to train Buddy with general obedience and meeting other dogs. Buddy barks like crazy at large dogs, but tonight Buddy played with 105 pound Ida in our house. It was such a relief to see Buddy play well with another dog! Marty facilitated the whole process and we couldn't have done it without him (or Ida!). We feel so lucky to have Marty help us with the socialization process, and to see Buddy have fun with a large dog! Before working with Marty, we received quotes from other trainers and not only were we uncomfortable with their approaches, but their prices were outrageous. Black Dog K-9 approaches obedience training with love and offers training that is best for the dog, at a reasonable price. Marty has realistic suggestions, answers all questions thoroughly, gives great examples, and has excellent recommendations for dog training tools. In addition to the exceptional dog training we've already received in only 4 sessions, Marty has been kind, supportive, and is really a joy to be around--Buddy thinks so too! Marty is flexible, punctual, and he really cares about you and your dog. If you're trying to decide between trainers, go with Black Dog K9, you won't regret it.

Denise and crew have been walking my dogs for over fifteen years now. I would never want to have anyone else. Whenever I have had something unforeseen come up, Four Paws has ALWAYS stepped up and helped me. They care about my dogs as if they were their own. Years ago when I first realized I needed dog walking services, I had an unfortunate experience with another company (they simply 'forgot to come'!) so it took some time for me to trust that Four Paws would not 'forget' us. I feel fortunate to have found them, and I am not kidding when I say I don't know what I would do without them.

One major concern of any dog lover when he or she vacations is how to care for one's pet, especially a sensitive and shy dog like our Luke. We found that Helene of Pawsitively Pets is the answer. From our first contact with Helene, she proved to be responsive and reliable. During our initial meet and greet, she meticulously collected information about our pet and our needs. When we left for vacation, she showed up every day in rain or shine at the agreed-upon time to walk our dog. She even left notes to let us know how the week unfolded! Helene is highly responsible, reliable, knowledgeable and caring. Her credentials are excellent. We unhesitatingly recommend her dog walking and pet sitting services. She performed magnificently for us! We will be calling upon her services again the next time we vacation!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
