Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: My goal is to teach a little differently and more personally than what can be found at a typical music store. I learned by combining traditional training on trumpet in high school and junior college, playing guitar along with recordings, and picking up various lesson books. In other words, I scooped up the resources I could find, and tried to apply them the best I could. I was recently motivated to share how I learned, after seeing a great bass player, Victor Wooten, speak about music and learning music. He likes to parallel music with language. He points out that we learn to speak long before we learn how to read or write or learn the rules of grammar and suggests that we can approach playing music in a similar way. We start by speaking, by conversing with experienced talkers, without understanding reading, writing, or grammar. Then, we fortify that experience by learning grammar (to make sure our message is clear and understood), and reading and writing (to make sure that we can share our message with others). At the same time, I was sad to hear about my daughter's friends quitting their band instruments, mostly because they were bored with the way they were taught. I honestly believe that like most things, we teach to the masses knowing full well that what reaches one student does not necessarily reach another. Some students get bogged down in the academic, before they experience the joy of creating music and gain the desire to understand the academic part. My goal is to reach those potential musical giants by inspiring them to learn more of the musical academics. Lessons are intended to be 30 minutes per week. Because I am about finding the right formula for your learning, I am not averse to trying alternative plans. Lessons are intended to be taught out of our home, near the corner of Liberty and Eola Roads in Aurora. That said, I am willing to teach at the student's home, as it sometimes creates a more comfortable/safe place to learn. My initial meeting with students is at no charge, to get a chance to evaluate how good our chemistry is, and what path we might want to take. After that, lessons will be $25 per half-hour at my home. The traveling rate will depend on your location. Just call or email me, and I will send a policy book and a brief survey. I believe that teaching is only successful when there is a good, open dialogue between teacher and student, good chemistry and good communication. After I get your survey back, I like to set-up an initial first lesson/assessment at a proposed regular lesson time, where we can talk about a direction. Thanks again, Glenn Donaldson U Rock Music Lessons
