I am a choral director and a soloist. I gave local lessons for years. But, every vocalist needs a vocal tutor so bad habits do not form. Dave is excellent not only in his training techniques but he has an outstanding voice to demonstrate the proper training styles that he uses.
Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.
I am an adult student who began lessons with Elif many years after my initial childhood lessons. It has been a wonderful experience in every way. She is teaching me not only how to play the instrument but musical theory as well which I appreciate as an adult learner. I highly recommend Elif for any adult who has been thinking of learning (or returning to) the piano!
Very welcoming and knowledgable. Already scheduled my next lesson. Looking forward to continuing lessons.
My daughter takes voice lessons and participates in theater at Stacey De and Co. We couldn't be more thrilled with everyone there, from the professional front desk staff Bre, outstanding director Sean, absolutely irreplaceable Melissa, and of course the heart and soul of this great place Stacey. The time my daughter spends at Stacey De and Co. every week is her favorite time of her week. In a completely non-stressful, family-like environment, she is stretched to really push her limits, is taught life lessons like the value of hard work and the ability to accept constructive criticism/evaluation and then improve on those things, and so very much more. She leaves every lesson and rehearsal a little more confident, learned, and determined to succeed...all in an environment of happiness, laughter, encouragement. I don't know what else one could look for in a fine arts school. My daughter and I both love it here.
Guitar Chicago is the best option for music lessons in Chicago! Their instructors are patient, knowledgeable, and supportive. They do a fantastic job of working with you to achieve your individual goals. I started as a beginner with no guitar knowlege, and they helped me achieve my goals of playing multiple open mics and music events. I've also been able to meet and work with other Guitar Chicago students! They are always willing to work with my busy schedule, which is very hard to find with other schools or group lessons.
My experience with Allegro has been nothing but positive. They have been prompt in all of their responses to my questions, they offer lessons at a great price, and Phil is very patient with his students. Can’t wait to continue my lessons!
I work in accounting for a business that has customers, venders and employees in Mexico. As our business grows, communicating in Spanish becomes more and more vital to our operations in Mexico. Prior to working with Cristobal, I wasn't able to correspond with our Spanish-Speaking customers and venders. But, after working with him twice a week for several months, I developed a proficiency in written Spanish that has dramatically increased the efficiency of those transactions. Tutoring sessions were fun and challenging. Cristobal was able to tailor lesson plans specifically to me and my business. He combined critical elements of interpersonal communication with relevant business interaction and dialogue. The structure Cristobal formulated in his lessons created a platform for continuous growth and learning. Because of the foundation he provided me, I am now able to continue learning through the day-to-day interactions I experience at work. His guidance and aptitude for communication was an invaluable asset to the progress I have seen in our customer and vender relationships. I would highly recommend Cristobal as a tutor or consultant for any Spanish-speaking integration in business.
More than just a teacher. I took guitar lessons with Paul for eight years. He helped me realize my natural ear for music, and allowed me to figure out what I wanted to learn. Our lessons were always different. Sometimes I would bring in songs that I wanted to learn, and sometimes he would have things he thought I should know how to play, which helped me learn similar songs later on. When I was applying to college and needed to learn how to read music and play jazz guitar, he tailored all of our lessons so that I could learn those techniques quickly and most importantly, efficiently. Paul's personality transcends the teacher-student relationship, which allowed he and I to become very good friends. Paul William is an excellent teacher for whatever you need to learn. You can't go wrong taking lessons from him.
This guy is awesome! Mike has a great personality and is very fun to talk to and learn with. It is very comfortable and not intimidating to learn with him and he responds to messages very promptly. Really cool guy :) I'm excited to be learning with him. I went to his place to have the lesson and enjoyed it and am looking forward to next time.
Aaron is a gifted teacher and musician. He teaches people of all ages. I started working with him, and already see immense improvement. He tailored my lessons based on my goals and current struggles vs skills. He also worked with my nephew, and I sat through the first session. (My nephew is shy lol). Totally different lesson plan, and worked very well with him. He taught in such a way that my nephew could pick up on it and improve right in the lesson! Aaron is very encouraging, patient, and effective. A hidden gem in the Dekalb County area. I highly recommend him no matter where you're at, or what your age is. I've had a few music teachers, and this guy teaches to make you succeed. His hopes seem to be success above his skills (which might be impossible. He's brilliant and very gifted both in his musicianship and his teaching skills.)
As adult playing piano for the first time since childhood, I am thoroughly enjoying my experience taking lessons with Irwin Silbernik.
Suzanne is very kind an patient with my 7 year old daughter. My daughter looks forward to her lessons every week and is very eager to learn! We've only had two lessons so far, but I can tell that my child will flourish because of Suzanne's teaching!
My 2 children take lessons at Music Connection. We love both our instructors. They work great with the kids. They are patient with the beginners. The kids have learned and grown a lot since we started lessons. Ben is great to work with. He's very responsive to questions via email or phone. I would highly recommend Music Connection for anyone looking to take lessons.
Nicolette is a wonderful piano teacher! She intuitively knows what my son needs and how to get him there while keeping enjoyment high. She finds music that fits his interest, that challenges him just enough and that helps him to fill in knowledge he might be missing. She is encouraging, patient, and kind. And she has an expansive knowledge of music: playing, composing, theory... My child has grown by leaps and bounds in just a couple of years. We are so thankful to have had her placed in our lives and will continue with her as long as we can! (We were also quite impressed with the vocalists she is instructing. We had the pleasure of hearing them sing at a perfectly-sized recital recently. She had obviously worked with each student according to their personalities, voice abilities and interests.)
I first contacted Elizabeth with trepidation. She’s a classically trained vocalist and I am a bass guitarist who simply wanted to sing a few songs with his rock band. But she took me seriously, gave me vocal exercises to improve my control, and within just a few months people were coming up to me to tell me how good I sound! I still have much to learn, but I no longer fear stepping up to the microphone. Elizabeth keeps the lessons interesting. We work on a variety of musical styles and I am always challenged and interested in the material. The exercises are very effective, and seldom does a week go by when I don’t feel like I have made improvements. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
I started out with the voice class. I was not a singer at all! Ms. Hill takes students from wherever they are, and works with them. She is so very encouraging. Learning about music in voice class inspired me to take piano lessons, which was something I thought I'd never do! But again she takes you from where you are. I am an adult learner, venturing completely out of my comfort zone. I am also a retired teacher. Ms. Hill demonstrates all of the best qualities of an educator. She quickly evaluates the needs of her students and individualizes lessons to suit their needs. She does so with both children and adults.
I really enjoyed taking guitar lessons with Ryan! He took time to really listen to and understand what my goals were and helped me work towards them, which is no small feat for a complete beginner. He explained new concepts in ways I could understand and I felt comfortable asking for clarification. He also gave me a variety of different exercises (chords, scales, picking, strumming, full songs) to keep things interesting and to keep me engaged. I also liked that he added in a little music theory (at my request) so that I knew why I was doing what I was doing. In all Ryan is kind, chill, accommodating, talented, and thoughtful, so I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.
My son loves piano lessons. The credit goes to Ms. Russkoff.
I´ve only been working with Cristobal for a short time due to my work schedule, but I´m very comfortable now with speaking and reading Spanish. I really like his approach to teaching the language and his passion for it. He also has group meet ups so that you can enjoy speaking with others on your proficiency level and continue gaining confidence in your speaking ability.
Pete and I regularly performed, wrote music and recorded albums together in Shenzhen, China from 20012-2014. I've traveled the world and have performed/collaborated w musicians from all walks of life. Without a doubt, Pete is one of the best. His unique melodic & harmonic guitar colorings are essential in what set him apart from other composers. Pete knows how to listen to each song and write to meet the needs of that song. Pete is also a seasoned music teacher, having 3-5 years of classroom teaching of guitar, ukulele in China as well as private lessons in the US over the last decade. And then there's performing: Pete's performed in all manner of venues, all types of bands and with eclectic and unique musicians. There's very little he hasn't experienced and so much that he is able to assist in helping student's develop. Whether you want to develop your guitar chops, learn how to song- write, pro tips and pointers on performance - Trust me, Pete Kruse is your mentor. I'm his peer and I have learned countless skills from him. He gets my full recommendation. If you're looking to book him to perform for your function, you'll be very happy with your entertainment!
