Introduction: Drumming is fun and drum lessons should be too! I love sharing my passion for drumming and have decades worth of experience teaching students to learn the drums whether they’re complete beginners looking to get started or more experienced drummers looking to improve. My drum lessons are fun, varied and interesting and geared towards each student’s interests so they look forward to each week’s lesson and making progress. I’ve designed my program so students build their self-confidence with each step. I have been giving drum lessons to students in Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, IL and throughout the Fox Valley area. I currently offer "Stay At Home" online drum lessons for drummers anywhere via Zoom, Skype, etc out of concern for my student’s health and am not currently offering in person lessons due to the pandemic. All the student needs to take lessons from me is a tablet, smartphone or computer with a camera. These lessons have become more popular than ever and offer several benefits over in-person lessons: • Safety • No travel time • No gasoline costs • The student plays their own drums • I provide the written music so there is no need to purchase books • Students can pay monthly but I also offer discounted lesson packages for students who pay quarterly I have a wide variety of experiences to draw upon. I played in all my school bands: symphonic, wind ensemble, marching band, percussion ensemble, Jazz band, and the pit band for musicals from grade school through college. I know what is expected of my students in each of those situations. My magazine articles have been featured in many international music publications. I'm a writer for Drum! Magazine, Modern Drummer, Traps and many other magazines and I have had my educational articles published hundreds of times. I’ve also taught at several excellent music stores including The Drum Pad, School Of Rock, Naperville Music, Palatine Music Center and The Music Room. My first professional work was drumming in the pit band for several musicals. I also played in a variety of bands, touring, playing colleges, clubs and festivals. I competed with the University of Chicago Pipe Band as a rudimental snare drummer, traveling around the US and Europe. We had the pleasure of competing (twice) in the Scottish Pipe Band World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. I've studied and taken masterclasses and private lessons with some of the best teachers and drummers in the world including Gary Chaffee, Mike Mangini, Gavin Harrison, Chad Wackerman, Stanton Moore, and many more. I currently play in about a half-dozen bands, playing everything from Metallica to Frank Sinatra. I work with Jazz trios, big bands, rock bands, and also in several wedding bands. Some of the bands I work with use a click track live, and I also have lots of recording studio experience. I've worked in several praise and worship bands, and also played on the VeggieTales videos and movie soundtrack. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve. I enjoy living vicariously through my student's successes - whether it's playing at a party, making their school band auditions, getting to play in the pit band for a musical, or traveling to Disney World with their marching band. I'm passionate about playing and practicing the drums and I like to share that with my students. Outside of drumming: I'm married, a proud father, and enjoy traveling and spending time with my family.

I took lessons with Brad for over 10 years. He was always willing to work with me on what I wanted to work on and was patient with me when I didn't practice (which was sometimes quite apparent.) He is a really nice guy and I couldn't recommend him enough.

Brad has been teaching my son how to play the drums and I see much improvement. Also, I am happy because my son is encouraged to do better and is motivated to practice on his own. Brad is a true professional who listens to the individual and their skills. Happy. Lisa M.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing is competitive or lower than most other reputable teachers in the area. I prefer cash and will often give additional time to students who pay that way. I also accept PayPal, Apple Cash and Zelle.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I want to get to know my student and why they want to play the drums. What kind of music do they love? Who are their favorite bands? I assess the student's interests and experience, and begin students on a combination of drum set exercises along with some material to develop their hand technique and coordination towards their goals. I introduce new concepts as the student is ready for them and also teach them how to "think" like a drummer and how to practice efficiently. I write custom exercises and drum solos that are fun to play while building crucial skills.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've studied drumming throughout my life during my school and college years and after. I taught at one of the world's best drum shops for twenty years (the Drum Pad) and we hosted over 100 of the world's best drummers in clinics and I was able to take lessons and masterclasses with many of them. Since I write for every issue of Drum! Magazine, I have to research my topics and pass the scrutiny of my editors. I write transcriptions of drummers from their latest CD releases and also do most of the drum set product reviews for the magazine. I contribute feature articles that are educational in nature and also film video demonstrations of my lessons for their website. I'm up on the current players, and since I've written hundreds of product reviews can give objective equipment advice, and have created lots of unique material for my students that develops specific skills.
