Keith did an outstanding job wiring my garage, removing unnecessary wiring through out my basement and installing a switch on my vanity. He is very professional. He also helped me trouble shoot plumbing and other items I had in question pertaining to my fist house and as soon as he completes my stove hook up I am going to give him 5 stars, recommend and use him in the future.

During an inside inspection, People's gas found 2 coupled flex pipes connected to our dryer and decided to disconnect our dryer and cap the connection (even though there was no gas leak). This left my spouse and I going to the laundromat for about a month and a half. I tried to hire a plumber through Westward, our condo management company, and that never panned out. so decided to look elsewhere for a solution. I signed up for Thumbtack and set up my project. Salvo with ISA Euro Pro Construction responded within an hour of my posting, we communicated about a time to come out, and they met me at my condo the next day. We'd received quotes to open the wall and that would have been a lot of time, materials + drywall and a lot of labor time. Salvo and Vito came up with a very nice and innovative solution to extend the pipe downward on the wall behind the washer and then installed a 5 foot flex pipe across to the dryer. The install looks great and I'm very happy with the final product. I am extremely satisfied with their solution, their professionalism, and the price; I highly recommend ISA Euro Pro Construction.

A Plus Decorating worked with us to perform drywall repairs and painting. We live in an older house with lots of stress cracks, nails popping out of drywall and settling - my ceiling has never looked so good. Chano was always quick to respond and the quality of their work was great. The crew was very courteous and took extra care to clean up after themselves. We will definitely be using A Plus again for our next paining job. Thanks Chano!

We have had Ron do several small projects in our home: install a bathroom vanity and faucets; patching a hole in our drywall. All projects were done professionally and at a very reasonable price. We have other projects that we will ask his help with in the future.

Tom initially came to do work with my electrical panel so that I could connect my double oven. I was in a pinch before the holiday - he was prompt in answering the service call, knowledgable and his confidence helped to ease my anxiety. After the great experience I had with Tom on that service call, I didn't hesitate to call him again to connect my sink, dishwasher, garbage disposal and cooktop once my kitchen remodel was complete. We ran into an unforeseen problem with the existing configuration of the plumbing and also had to go into the drywall to connect an electrical outlet for the cooktop. Tom had adequate staff to get this done within the day and although the project ended up costing more than he initially quoted me, the price was very fair for the amount of work that had to be done. I'm looking forward to having them come back to install new light fixtures and my kitchen backsplash. I've found Affordable Handyman to be my service of choice for all projects/repairs - big and small.

V1 painting’s team was punctual, reasonably priced, professional, friendly, flexible to our changing plans/vision and did a spectacular job fixing the horrible work a previous contractor had done. The problems/projects we had: •Crooked corners/ imperfect wall corners •Bumpy mudding •20+ Feet of Exposed Plaster wiring over exposed beam •Improperly installed drywall •Missing door trim that another contractor removed and accidentally disposed of They fixed every one of these problems and then did a gorgeous paint job to finish. They meticulously cleared away the area above our beams, perfected all of our corners, installed drywall, and muffed perfectly. I will hire this team every single time I have any similar needs. MOMS: I was comfortable having these gentlemen in my home with me and my kids during the day. They played appropriate music and were kind but still professional with my kids. They even helped me catch my dog when it got out of the front door as they were working. Will noticed that our electrician had left a few hot wires exposed and covered them to protect my kids from injury. This team is a class act and I am thrilled to submit a review for them and hope they have great success. Hire them.

Tramail's was able to work within my tight schedule and budget. The crew was very personable and polite. They helped to move some of my heavier furniture. The job was completed professionally and in one day. The completed job was inspected and any needed touchups were made before they left. I am very pleased with the company and work and would most definitely recommend the company.

Turion was very professional, I needed my gutters cleaned and my entire home painted and it was done within 1 week for a very reasonable price. My gutters no longer leaks thanks to him and my house won't need a paint job for at least 20 years to come. I would recommend him to anyone. Excellent job!!

Very professional work, applied drywall to a complicated situation involving an exposed wall with external piping. Per my request he created openings for certain access pipes but did this in an artful manner. Otis is a cheerful professional who completed the work promptly in a short period of time and left my condo without any debris or signs he was there, just a perfect wall. Very reasonable price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
