Cesar is very professional, honest, reasonable, clean and an expert with all roofing repairs. I was previously scammed by a roofing company who didn't repair my roof correctly and also used cheap materials as well. After, 6 months, my roof started leaking again. In April 2017, I contacted Cesar whom was extremely helpful and knowledgeable during the estimate site visit. Therefore, I hired him to repair my flat roof and he installed natal on 2 sides of my flat roof and stripped it in with roofing membrane, installed a metal bar inside the gutter and stripped in the seams and installed new roofing membrane as well on other areas. Cesar did such an amazing job, that my sister hired him within the same week to repair some shingles on her home. I NOW have a Roofing Contractor to use on all of my future roofing repairs. Thank you Cesar! Job well done!

American Bonded worked at replacing some rotted wood on my roof due to a water leak and then replacing the shingles on my roof. Fred gave me an initial quote and then responded to additional requests I had for replacement of gutter flashing, etc. as well as relocation of some of my roof vents, all without changing his original quote. He communicated with me throughout as to the water damage and overall condition of the roof that he was finding as the job went along.

This was my first attempt at hiring someone via thumbtack. I won't bore you with the details, but long story short, we ended up choosing Loyola Roofing for a roofing job. Upon initial contact, I was nearly instantly connected to Phillip Rich, who gave offered to come the same day to to an estimate. Phillip showed up right on our scheduled time. I felt comfortable with the estimate and the expertise he provided, but my wife was rather adamant that we need to have other bidders give us a quote. It was hard to argue with that. That did not go so well though. Few estimates later, it was relatively obvious that Loyola was the only sensible choice. I contacted Phillip a day before Thanksgiving hoping he could squeeze us in before, or for, that weekend. He could. The same day we signed the contract. On Friday the project was completed. Phillip pointed out considerations for future projects and I can honestly say that we would hire him and his company again. The price was not low, but you get what you pay for.

As an architect, I was looking for the right person to help me with my complete re-roofing project in Naperville and after talking to over 8 contractors I had selected Joe of Fox Restoration because I trusted him and knew that he would do it right and fix any concerns that I may have...bottom line I was right, the project was perfect and he did take action when it came to my input and concerns...he not also showed up everyday to supervise his team but at the end of each day, after his crew left the job site, he even went as far as to do extra cleanup work to make sure the property looked orderly and was safe of any debris and nails on the ground. I would without any hesitation recommend Fox Restoration for any existing or new roofing project...[Thanks so much Joe, you were indeed a true professional who is detailed oriented like myself!] All the best, Alex

We've called Xpert Project twice now for roof leaks and have been very happy with their service. In the first instance, we called about 15 different roofing places looking for someone to troubleshoot and fix a leak. Of those, 10 failed to answer their phones or return calls. The others didn't seem interested in a small roof leak or weren't going to be able to look at it for a couple months. One of companies that was booked up actually referred us to Xpert Project LTD, and Jan was at our home literally the next day to fix our leak. In our more recent call he arrived on the same day within a couple hours of our call. In each visit, Jan took pictures of what he found and made recommendations. In both cases, he got the work done quickly at a reasonable cost and did a high quality job. He even reattached a two story downspout that had fallen off, a second that was about to fall off, and pointed out where a bird was building a nest in the soffit. We really appreciated his fast response time and attention to detail.

Amazing service. I could not have asked for a better roofing company. Everything went amazing. Ali worked well to help process my insurance claim. He picked a great color for the roof. His contractor showers up early and worked late until they fished the job. I had a whole new roof and gutters in 3 days. I'd recommend him to anyone!

I called Quality Way Roofing & Construction to have the flashing on my roof repaired. They came out the next day to give me an estimate and started the work two days later. They were very knowledgeable and detail orient in explaining how the repairs would be completed. All questions and concerns were address. I had my flashing repair and aluminum coating put on my roof. There has been a few storms in this area and I have no more leaks thanks Tommy and Tony at Quality Way Roofing! They did such a great job on my roof I referred them to my parents to have their brick retainer wall repair and tuck pointing on their front porch. They did a fantastic job!

I had a great experience with Peter Pryce and Quality Way roofing company. They did a great job on my roof, which ended up having some pretty serious problems. There were water issues which was causing mold in the house. Not anymore!! I felt the price was competitive, the work was very high quality, and I loved the warranty they provided. Even with the crazy snowstorm that set things back a little, they were able to get it done in a timely manner. I will definitely be using them again and recommend them to my friends. Thanks Pete!

I needed a section of a 6ft. tall wood fence repaired. I'm older and not on the best of health. Chad came out and looked at the fence, he was quite honest in telling me I would be better off replacing the fence with a new one. I cannot afford a new fence. He looked the problem over and came up with a few solutions to straighten the existing fence and strengthen it, so it would not bend on windy days. We decided on the best method, he went to get the supplies, came back and installed the necessary items. He was here for quite some time, yet charged me only a small amount. He was very friendly and nice and very thoughtful in his consideration for me and what I could afford and not in taking advantage of the situation.

Someone had damaged a double-brick wall that separates my property from city property. About 75 bricks and 2 cap stones were broken or displaced. This was not a big job, as jobs go. Crown Roofing & Masonry Co. responded very quickly to my query. The broken section of the wall was taken down. About 40 bricks and 2 large stones were cleaned and reused, which helped keep the price down. The job was completed in one day. Clean up was very good and all trash was removed. If you need masonry work give Crown Roofing & Masonry Co. a chance. C. B. - Chicago

My husband and I worked with Joe in GreenLight Construction Group. He really went above and beyond our expectation. He's very professional and knowledgeable about what he's doing. Working with him, you can tell that he has been done this for a really long time and very trustworthy. He helped us to save money, meanwhile gave us the best quality of work. Before choosing to work with him, we consulted at least four other roofers, so we know the average price of replacing our roof. What GreenLight quoted us was very reasonable and even cheaper than others. Joe also worked with our adjuster, he helped us saving huge amount of money by teaching us how to talk with our insurance company step by step. That was extremely helpful for us especially because both my husband and I are from China and first language is not English. In a totally different country and not knowing a lot people in Great Chicago area, it was very heartwarming to have a person like Joe who's very passionate about what he's doing, responsible, care and helping us as a friend. We really appreciate the work GreenLight did for us, and very thankful about them caring their customers like their friends. They finished the work for us yesterday, and it looks fabulous. According to our experience, we highly recommend GreenLight Construction Group, especially Joseph, to anyone who need construction in their house.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
