Salvo and his team were awesome, professional, punctual, communicative, always responding but most importantly listening and understanding our needs. Our bathroom remodel was not an easy task, yet he ensured not only to accommodate our budget, but add the right value even going above the expectations. They say the best compliment to a contractor is a referral, I went a step further and hired him for another tile project in my house. He is that good, and I won’t hesitate to recommend him to others.

At first I hired Tom to move some plumbing in my kitchen remodel. He was on time, professional and very reasonably priced. He left our initial appointment just for an estimate with more work than he bargained for and each week I added more. In the end, he remodeled half of my house. From plumbing to electrical to tile to drywall, etc.. His crew is great and very respectful. My master bath looks amazing. Before he even finished my job I was referring him to family and friends. Do yourself a favor and hire him if you are reading this review. You won’t be disappointed.

Master Bathroom remodel done with expertise: demolition, tub, shower, tile, vanity, lights, sink, tile, grout, paint, hardware, faucets, valves. I had a contractor bail on the project, after doing the demolition and building the room (incorrectly). Ron came to the rescue with a professional demeanor, prompt arrival to quote, and explained the work involved. Not only was Ron able to work within the conditions, he reconfigured the other contractor's work to not require a complete demolition again. Ron has a knowledge of building codes and built the bathroom properly, including: reframe shower cubicle, laid concrete backer boards, repaired tub surround, installed tile straight, even, consistent, connected plumbing, electric, fixtures (very heavy stuff, but he handled it well with his colleague). I trusted Ron in my home, with the deposit and he was enjoyable to converse with and let me know in great detail about the project (before performing work). I'm pleased with the results and everything is still working great after 3 months, no leaks and nothing has broken.

I hired Kosterna Construction to do various drywall projects, including building the framing and insulating the walls. They also put in support beams where needed, built a sub floor for tile in the kitchen, installed an exterior door with frame, built frames/molding around windows, evened out a sloping floor/ ceiling. I was able to buy my own materials and paid them for the labor. They are very experienced in all new construction and remodeling. Very nice, reliable, easy to work with. I thought they did great work for a fair price and plan on hiring them for future projects! attached are some photos

Overall Marek did a great job. He was on time, worked well with what we wanted and the finished product on our bathroom tile looks beautiful. The only issue I have is with some of the finishing details. Some of the caulk lines are uneven, you can see some of the cuts from the tile cutter on the pieces and put corner pieces were not completely flush with the wall so you could see the mortar behind the tile.

CM cleaned my bathrooms and kitchen really well! One of the bathrooms was so nasty that I could not fathom how the stains got on the toilet and tiles when the previous tenant lived there, but CM transformed it into a brand new, flawless bathroom! She also helped clean out the condensed milk spilled in my fridge completely at no extra cost. I truly appreciate her efficiency, work quality, and friendliness. I will definitely invite her back in the future.

Sam came out and completed several things for this project: Acoil around window and door, trim around roofline, touch up spot painting, caulk around tubs and sinktop, drywall, insullation around hvac ductwork, anchoring of laundry tub, tile work, etc. He had the tools, the manpower, and the skill to complete the job efficiently. He was both reasonable and flexible with pricing. It's no wonder he is in high demand. If you are flexible with timing and reasonable with pricing, Sam and his crew are worth the opportunity. I would use him again.

We had two bathrooms remodeled and could not be more pleased. Tom did beautiful work with ceramic tile in the shower, tub area and floors and added some nice extras that we weren't anticipating. He always showed up as planned never leaving us hanging and worked with us on design ideas. We would definitely recommend him for any work that you may need done.

Robert completed my kitchen backsplash and as you can see from the pic posted he did an amazing job! Metal tile is a huge pain but Robert did a spectacular job as you can see. Robert was a pleasure and professional to work with as you will see if you are lucky to hire him. As the other reviewers mentioned his attention to detail was ridiculous no interjection to detail was needed by me as he was very meticulous and prideful in his work. Not sure what else there is to say... Thank you again Robert!!

Vince explained in detail the process, brought in samples to show the color options and explained how long it would take to complete the job. He had his installer use Armstrong vinyl tiles, a product that my parents used when they did the family room after moving into their home. The installer took his time to make the room look like new again! Vince did come out to inspect the floor after the job was complete.

I was doing a full house rehab and I hired him to redo 3 full bathrooms. He was GREAT!! He was always on time, flexible to work with, worked very hard, honest, neat & clean, and he walked me through all the steps, while he listened to what I was looking for while keeping me within my budget! He ripped out all the old tile, toilets, sinks, counters and he identified ways where I could recycle some of the material to reuse inside the new upgraded rooms. He even helped me coordinate where and what counters to pick, what new hardware to install that matched the vision he helped me create with the tile work he installed. He’s definitely got the eye for turning things into amazing finishes and he was able to make the rooms stand out with a WOW that I now love to show off as part of the whole house rehab project. I’ve referred him already a couple times and I will use him again when needed. He’s got vision and tenacity that I really appreciated during my renovation project.

Did good on the tile installation but tiled over sink drain and urinal drain. Installer removed my water supply valves and said he would replace them but at end of job they just said that they decided not to replace the valves. I needed to hire another service to solder the new valves on the water supply and rent a grinder and diamond blade to cut out the drains that were covered by tile. This made a giant mess and wasted a whole day.

Woodland Restoration has done several projects for me. Installed new custom doors, wall damage repair-damage from leaking plumbing, replace ceiling tiles and other jobs. They have been very professional, priced very competitively, and quick to complete the work. I have been kept informed at every step and they advised me about things I had not noticed before. Excellent company to work with and I heartily recommend them

Very fair price! Great work! Great attitude and always ready to answer our questions! We are smiling ear to ear! Dan helped us paint the whole house, demo one wall, added drywall patch to demolished wall. He placed flooring in our family room, reinforced a weak french door, laid tiles in two bathrooms and added wainscoting to our dining room! Everything looks great, but one cool part is he color matched a previously repaired 4×5 section of our hard wood floor practically EXACT same color! He also suggested color matching 4 transitions that were missing or wrong color. His team did it all in 6 days! Awesome for a 2300 sq. Ft house! Dan paid attention to small details we didn't even think about. We are already planning on our next project for D& M construction to help us with!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.
