Chef arrived early and was very accommodating to our chaotic dinner party with people arriving very late. Food was good and staff was thorough and pleasant. Overall very pleased.
Long Story Short: If you are looking for a caterer for a smaller corporate event, graduation party, birthday party, casual wedding HIRE NORTH ISLAND CATERING! They are very accommodating, and work their butt off to give you exactly what you want for your event. They make delicious home made food, for a reasonable price. If you are looking for something very large, more high-end, with passed hors devours, or signature cocktails, keep moving. The Details: We hired North Island Catering for our wedding reception for roughly 175 people held at the Haight in Elgin, IL. We wanted a heavy appetizer set up with hand held buffet style food options for dinner. Additionally we had desserts and a late-night food option. We also wanted a full open bar for guests, and champagne welcome. The Food: First off, Allen was very cooperative and flexible when it came to picking out our menu and food options for the event. Unfortunately, we were so busy with mingling with guests, we really didnt get to try too much of the food ourselves! However, many of our guests gave us great compliments on the spread. Allen allowed us to come in for a tasting at his restaurant beforehand to get a feel for the types of food they offer. Everything was delicious, everything! We ended up serving a whole gamut of different hot and cold appetizers, including jalapeno poppers, bacon wrapped shrimp, veggies, fruit, sweet & spicy jelly spread, among others. For dinner we served pulled 2 different salads, pork, tinga, and Italian beef along with a ton of other sides. We received nothing but happy reviews from our guests regarding the food. The brownies got a standing ovation! The late night food was a success, and I saw many people with a hot dog in one hand and drink in the other, working it on the dance floor. The Service/Presentation: Allen and his crew arrived to the event on time, and prepared to get the food out quickly and efficiently. We had a lot of food, and a lot of hungry people. One negative we did feel the need to comment on was the presentation. We requested heavy plastic plates and silverware, and I was a bit surprised to see small white paper plates with purple details instead. The dressings for the salad were set up in large Styrofoam cups, with a plastic spoon to ladle. I felt that this part could have been jazzed up a bit. Food was placed on black plastic trays, and the hot food was kept in metal tins (no problems there). Although not a huge deal, I would recommend having place cards or some way of labeling the food in the future, so guests know what they are grabbing. Alcohol was served in clear plastic cups (perfect), but towards the end of the night it moved to red solo cups, not a favorite of mine, but no big deal in the end. Although not the fault of Allen, I think that in the future allowing the table to be served off of both sides would have eliminated the long line of people waiting to get some grub! Allen and North Island Catering did a great job of getting food out when needed, providing great food, and cleaning up in a timely manner. Our venue had pretty strict policies regarding catering and Allen, and his team, were up for the challenge. The Bar: This is the part of the review where I was a bit hesitant to write. Everything turned out to be okay in the end, but there were some hiccups along the way. Since the beginning of communication with Allen, they let us know that they would like our input on deciding the amounts of alcohol we would like served. Allen had asked us to provide a complete list of alcohol we wanted. We did, and it included some higher end spirits. Allen gave us an updated quote for the alcohol and let us know that anything left over would be ours to keep. After running some numbers and doing the math ourselves, we provided our alcohol estimates to Allen. He stated that he thought it was completely too much. Being a catering professional, we trusted in his work, and let him make the final decision on how much to buy. When we arrived at the venue in the morning (we decorated ourselves the day of), we were surprised to see how little alcohol there was. In our minds, we knew that with our group of friends and family, they would be taking full advantage of a full bar! Our day-of venue organizer also made some suggestions that she didnt feel the alcohol/mixers would be enough given the size of our large party. We were able to contact Allen right away and voice our concerns. We even offered to have him buy more than he thought we needed and return what was left (as opposed to having us keep anything leftover). Allen understood our concerns, and ultimately brought more alcohol to the event. This was just an unnecessary stress for us on the day of the event. On a positive note, when booze was running low, North Island Catering even went out during the event and bought more. Additionally, a small mistake was made and a different brand of beer was bought than what we previously discussed. (I had time to change the Bar Sign with the correct brand, so ultimately it was no big deal). Finally, we paid to have the bar until 12 (midnight). Not sure where the miscommunication occurred, but the bartenders started cleaning the bar and announcing last call at around 11pm. We had lots of guests coming up to us, wondering why they could no longer get a drink. We did not realize the venue wanted the caterers to be gone by 12, so we were expecting the service to run a bit later. The bartenders continued to hand out beers as they were cleaning, so kudos to them. The Communication: Communication with Allen was impeccable. Allen was always very responsive via Thumbtack, and by phone. (Even when there was a Blackhawks game on). Allen was quick to offer suggestions, answers, and solutions to our questions and concerns within a few hours of us reaching out. If there was any reason to contact them, we knew that he would respond quickly. This was very reassuring since we planned the event completely ourselves. The day of the event Allen was able to answer phone calls and texts without a problem. The Price: The price of this event was very fair, and I think it was worth every penny. Our venue planner demanded that North Island Catering bring more workers to help with the service, and the addition of these people were the only last minute costs we had to endure (no fault of North Island). I appreciated that North Island Catering provided us with a price, negotiated with us to allow us to keep under our budget, and stuck with their promise in the end.
I am thrilled to bits with the food and service at Chic Chef Chicago and am giving them an enthusiastic 5 stars. They catered my wedding (passed appetizers, family style dinner, open bar) on September 17th, 2017 and everything was meticulously handled. The food: Along with traditional American fare, we included a few Indian appetizers. Our guests LOVED everything! People are still calling us to rave about the food and ask who our caterer was! One thing I really love about Chic Chef is that the food at the wedding was as good as the samples we tried at the tasting (this isn't always the case with catering vendors). The flavor, presentation, and portion sizes were all excellent. I really think the food helped put all our guests in a great mood. In addition, the bar staff provided by Chic Chef did a great job of following our signature drink recipes. I also want to give a shout out to their captain server, who gave special attention to my husband and I, AND our wedding party (parents, grandparents, bridesmaid, and groomsmen). Our families were really touched by the extra attention and care, and I loved seeing our guests so well looked after. A special note for Ravi, the owner: Ravi was present during our entire wedding and oversaw everything. He checked in regularly with my husband and I to make sure we were happy. He remembered all the small details and even had a secret stash of food/drinks for my husband and I to enjoy right after the ceremony! He adjusted the dinner serving time flawlessly (we were running almost 30 minutes behind). Anyway, I could go on and on, but in summary: Chic Chef and Ravi are a solid investment for your wedding catering, they genuinely care about their couples, and oooh-my-goodness the FOOD! :)
The catering went very well. We had the chicken marsala, Italian sausage with sweet peppers, mash potatoes, mostociolli, fresh fruit and grilled vegetables. The chicken was very yummy and simple for the folks that wanted flavor but not spicy. The Italian sausage were a huge hit. Folks commented on the mash potatoes and went back for thirds just for the potatoes alone. The mostociolli was mentally planned for the kids and vegetarians at the party. It was a smidge spicy for the kids but the vegetarians loved it so much they all took the leftovers home. The grilled vegetables were very nice with good flavor, fresh (not frozen) and not mushy. Even the fruit salad was fresh, no mushy or soggy melon, it even had pineapple in it. Overall the food was very good. Joseph arrived very promptly on time. He ended up holding the food because family members got lost coming to the event so that way the food was still hot when they arrived. It was painless. Whenever you book a caterer you always worry about the taste of the food and I picked Joseph based on reviews that commented about the food. The food was freshly prepared and well seasoned. I would use Joseph again.
I hired Chef David to do an intimate but fun dinner party for 12 people. This was my first time using him for anything and I was obviously hoping that all would go well on every front. But he exceeded my expectations by a lot. From the creativity of the menu (it was a five course meal +passed appetizers), the uniqueness of the ingredients, the presentation of the food, the service, the fun attitude, the pure professionalism - all was honestly was perfection. His services enabled me to sit back and really enjoy my guests in my new home. I will be using David again and again. I found the chef I was looking for to do these types of dinner parties that I very infrequently give...but will definitely host more as a result of this past evening. In fact, he is doing our family Thanksgiving in a few days and I am positive it will be outstanding.
We used Just a Bite to cater our Baby Shower and it was fantastic! Loretta was quick to respond to questions and made the process simple and free of hassle. The food received rave reviews from our guests and the presentation was absolutely fantastic. The small bites were perfect for an afternoon party and kept everyone full. Not to mention the bites themselves were delicious. The tuna spoons were a huge hit! We will definitely be using Just a Bite for future events! Highly recommended!
We have had many private chefs and caterers. We have found our “go to” chef service. Food was amazing. Mike and Matt were fun. They entertained the kids at the bar as they cooked, served.. and cleaned up. If you have never had a personal chef, try them. If you have before, uplevel to them. And by the way.. the cost was a bargain. Dinner for 8 with wine and beer pairing Less than $100 per person Insanely goid!
Chef Aram prepared an amazing meal for a small dinner party to celebrate a special birthday milestone. The food and presentation was amazing. Even better was Aram's ability to craft a menu based on the specific themes I was going for. He was fun and personable to talk to throughout the dinner, left our kitchen as clean as it was before he got there, and left us with some delicious leftovers for the next day. I highly recommend Chef Aram.
Chef Kirk responded to my emergency plea after another chef cancelled 4 hrs before my wedding and dinner party. Chef Kirk was in my home , fresh groceries in hand and serving an assortment of appetizers 2 hours later. During our wedding ceremony, Chef Kirk was in the kitchen preparing the menu that I had previously chosen. The food and presentation was outstanding!! My guests raved about the food. And, I simply sat back, relaxed and enjoyed every moment. Chef Kirk could not have pulled this off without his experience, professionalism, talent, and generosity! I am truly grateful and have a wonderful memory of my wedding day instead of a catastrophe.
I found Damien at very short notice for our dinner party. He was very accommodating. On the night of the dinner party the food was amazing!!!! We had such a wonderful time and Damien is wonderful. Thanks again for the amazing food and service!!!
I would hire Gracious again to cater future parties. All my guest loved the food and the presentation was great. I found Clarissa to be very accomadating.
Feast & Imbibe did an incredible job catering my wedding. Everyone was talking about how amazing the food was, and it honestly was the best wedding food, or food for that matter, that Ive ever had. Heather and her team were so helpful and really walked us through the whole process. I mean, Ive never planned a wedding before, or even a party for 200 people. Everyone at F&I was personable and attentive. They really made our day seamless and easy. I thought Id be so stressed, but Heather & Christina, made sure I worried about nothing. They thought of everything!
Kristen has catered a few parties for me, including a baby shower and two corporate events. Her food is spectacular as well as beautifully presented. She also has excellent cocktails recipes and ideas. After every event, my guests always request her contact information because they are so blown away by her cooking skills and her presentation. Her staff is responsive and very hard-working. I will definitely use her for all of my events going forward and would highly recommend her to others.
AMAZING!!!! Eric prepared dinner for my bachelorette party. He was on time, he had great energy, he was very professional and informative, and his food was absolutely amazing!
When planning a party it's very difficult to find the perfect combination of professionalism and culinary expertise. I found both in hiring Chez Mikey. My guests and I were so impressed with Chef Mike's preparation of our appetizers and main entré. We began our dinner with a one bite amuse bouchée, marinated carrots and cucumber caviar tray. Beautiful and very delicious. For the entré we had the "Hunters' Trophy" (lamb chop on top of polenta and a slowly cooked chicken thigh). This combination was presented artfully; and more importantly this dish was so tasty that even the guests with whom lamb chops are not thier favorite protein, found the lamb chop tender and cooked to perfection and loved it. Chef Mike ended the meal with a special chocolate ganache celebration cake which left all my guests happily ending on a sweet note. When I have another event, I'm speed dialing Chez Mikey because he will soon be booked up. Chef Mike and Sous Chef Diana are top notch in making a party scrumptious and elegant without the worry.
Excellent service and everyone loved the food. Buddy's was great to work with, prompt to the party, clean-up was fast, and they suggested the perfect menu for my crowd. I couldn't be happier!
Ari worked very well with us to make sure that we were able to make our parents party a success. She worked with our budget, brought all items we requested, ON TIME, and even had extras just in case which we did end up using. She was extremely professional and has a great spirit. I highly recommend her for any events!
Cheffield Events & Catering has to be one of the best caterers we have hired for the office. The food smelled and tasted amazing. Everyone was going back for seconds and thirds!!! We are a picky bunch, but we will be using Cheffield's in the future. They were prompt, professional and the presentations was great. We loved that they printed up a menu for our small gathering. We would recommend Cheffield Events & Catering for catering, and we hope to do many events with them.
We used J's for a block party and he was great. Even though the weather didn't cooperate, he soldiered on and gave us an amazing meal. The tacos (steak, chicken and pork) were delicious!!! Everyone loved it. I would definitely recommend J's for any of your catering needs.
Chef Taryn has cooked for multiple dinner parties for me. Her creative cuisine pleases many types, definitely foodies. She’s able to cook many styles such as modern American, southern, Thai, Indian etc. She also has great knowledge of wine and pairing it with food. She can make amazing desserts as well. I’ve seen her do parties of 4 and up to parties of 50. She’s the best! I would trust her to cook for the my most important guest.
She catered over 40 birthday party. She was professional and the food was great!!
