I am a choral director and a soloist. I gave local lessons for years. But, every vocalist needs a vocal tutor so bad habits do not form. Dave is excellent not only in his training techniques but he has an outstanding voice to demonstrate the proper training styles that he uses.
I consider myself an adult 'beginner' student because even though I took lessons for a year or two in my pre-teens, I've long since forgotten how to play the piano or read music. Recently I found Jon Novi through the Thumbtack website. I was thrilled to learn that, right from the start, he would teach me the songs I was most interested in playing bypassing the uninspiring, rigid, standard training lessons. In fact, we spent our very first session on a song that I've been wanting to play for years, and I enjoyed every minute of it! Jon has the qualities of a great teacher he's very enthusiastic, positive, and encouraging, as well as a very skilled musician. Best of all, he takes the time to listen to the student, guiding and motivating them to reach their goals.
She's very patient and the lessons progress at a good pace. As an adult learning for the first time this is important to me because I would get bored otherwise. She's a stickler for good technique which is also key. I highly recommend her.
Very welcoming and knowledgable. Already scheduled my next lesson. Looking forward to continuing lessons.
Drew has been taking lessons since he was 7 in voice, piano and acting. Theses gifted teachers helped him pursue his career in film, musical theater and, now in his final year at USC , an undergraduate degree in music composition. Most recently, Drew will be singing with the USC Chamber Singers! Each student studying with Stacey De & Co excels from their love for teaching the arts!!!
Started lessons last year and Dan is fantastic! I have no music talent but Dan has given me the skills so I can play guitar without my wife screaming to turn the amp down. Amazing feeling to be able To play songs that are you have loved your whole life Dan the Man is my hero!
Matt is an excellent and patient teacher. He is well versed in numerous styles and instruments. Both my children as well as myself take lessons from him. Finding an instructor as knowledgable, versatile, and affordable as Matt would be difficult. I have reservations giving him top marks.
Our 8-year old has been taking piano lessons with Ms. Rum for a little more than two months, and she's learned so much already. Phil and Rum are lovely people. And we really appreciate the affordable rates they offer. Highly recommended!
I have been taking Spanish lessons with Cristobal for coming up on a year and French lessons for the past 6 months or so. While I am sure that there are plenty of choices for tutoring this may be the only teacher I have had that I can honestly say has far superior methodology versus all my other professors. I don't say this lightly either, I say this coming from years of experience with other teachers in various settings. Just to give a little background, I studied Spanish for 3 years in high school, then studied in Mexico at a vocational school in a completely immersed environment (living with a host family of non-English speakers) far from the reaches of most gringos in a small city called Cuernavaca. I have worked with native Spanish speakers that speak very little English for 10+ years, studied Spanish in college for 4 semesters, and even studied with Professor William Slavin for two years in weekly private sessions, a local scholar who spoke English, Spanish, French, ,Italian, Portuguese, and Hebrew. While Slavin's approach was very thorough, Cristobal's approach is practical, more natural, and aimed at speaking. Ole! Spanish School isn't just another business in the sea, it's a place with an authentic philosophy and a natural approach to language learning. To make the experience even better, his rates are super reasonable and he has a very easy going personality that creates a relaxed environment. His positive ratings exist for a reason.
I am a big fan of Jeremie's teaching method. This guy is amazing. Our lessons are online but that in no way diminishes their quality. I look forward to each lesson and suspect that will be the case indefinitely. He helped me find a new guitar, gave me some great tips about what to look for in an amp. He's given me innumerable pointers, pieces of music theory, sheet music (including tablature) for songs I'm interested in, and great advice about how to take stock in my progress (especially during times when it seems like I'm not moving forward very much). I don't think I could recommend Jeremie enough. If you get the chance to work with him, do yourself a favor and take it.
More than just a teacher. I took guitar lessons with Paul for eight years. He helped me realize my natural ear for music, and allowed me to figure out what I wanted to learn. Our lessons were always different. Sometimes I would bring in songs that I wanted to learn, and sometimes he would have things he thought I should know how to play, which helped me learn similar songs later on. When I was applying to college and needed to learn how to read music and play jazz guitar, he tailored all of our lessons so that I could learn those techniques quickly and most importantly, efficiently. Paul's personality transcends the teacher-student relationship, which allowed he and I to become very good friends. Paul William is an excellent teacher for whatever you need to learn. You can't go wrong taking lessons from him.
This guy is awesome! Mike has a great personality and is very fun to talk to and learn with. It is very comfortable and not intimidating to learn with him and he responds to messages very promptly. Really cool guy :) I'm excited to be learning with him. I went to his place to have the lesson and enjoyed it and am looking forward to next time.
Irwin is great with young kids, and my twin boys (almost 7) have been enjoying beginning guitar lessons with him. I like that he teaches them how to read music and encourages them to memorize songs. It's how I learned piano as a little girl and I'm enjoying seeing the boys progress and learn to understand written music. My goal has been for the boys to get used to a weekly music lesson and enjoy that as part of their weekly routine...so far Irwin has been a great fit for us and I highly recommend! :)
My 2 children take lessons at Music Connection. We love both our instructors. They work great with the kids. They are patient with the beginners. The kids have learned and grown a lot since we started lessons. Ben is great to work with. He's very responsive to questions via email or phone. I would highly recommend Music Connection for anyone looking to take lessons.
Elizabeth Knox is very dedicated to her students, instructing with a level of detail and determination that inspires those she teaches to practice with the same intensity that she offers to them. Her holistic approach to vocal training can benefit voices of all ranges and skill levels, and I have made definite improvement in problem areas I had been unable to make a breakthrough with before. Lessons are never cut-and-dry-- each visit something new is addressed and worked on, from learning repertoire and refining technique, to stage presence and lessons on how our bodies produce sounds. I'm very thankful to have found her.
My experience with The Music Scene is 100 times better than I could have imagined. The knowledge, patience and experience alone let me know, I selected the perfect vocal coach. I do have a little work to do with working on my new vocal range and The Music Scene's process is sure to get me to my desired end result. I'd definitely recommend The Music Scene to others needing voice lessons from beginner to professional.
I really enjoyed taking guitar lessons with Ryan! He took time to really listen to and understand what my goals were and helped me work towards them, which is no small feat for a complete beginner. He explained new concepts in ways I could understand and I felt comfortable asking for clarification. He also gave me a variety of different exercises (chords, scales, picking, strumming, full songs) to keep things interesting and to keep me engaged. I also liked that he added in a little music theory (at my request) so that I knew why I was doing what I was doing. In all Ryan is kind, chill, accommodating, talented, and thoughtful, so I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.
I was looking for a private viola teacher to help with my 5th and 6th grader to keep up their skills over the summer. I got very fortunate to find Ms. Codruta and my kids have excelled under her teaching. We have had 10 lessons so far and my kids have grown exponentially and are super excited to show their orchestra teacher how much more advanced they are. Additionally, I am very impressed with Ms. Corduta’s flexibility with scheduling, which has helped with my family’s busy schedule. Last- she is very positive and knows how to challenge the children and get the best out of them. I would highly recommend her for private music lessons.
Since starting guitar lessons only three months ago I have been progressing well. AJ has done a great job of steering the lessons toward areas I am interested in instead of sticking to a fixed script, this flexibility has helped me to advance quickly. AJ is so positive and encouraging, each week I look forward to the next steps in my guitar playing journey. I highly recommend AJ.
Pete taught our son James guitar lessons for about two years. James had never played guitar prior to meeting with Pete, and I was impressed by Pete's patience, optimism and professionalism at every lesson. James can now play several pop songs and even some beginner classical music. Thanks Pete!
My kids are taking her lessons. She is patient and thoughtful. After all, she is a gifted pianist. We are very happy to work with her.
