Introduction: COVID-19 UPDATE: WE ARE CONDUCTING COVID-SAFE IN-PERSON LESSONS. All teachers are fully vaccinated. Online and in-studio sessions are billed at the standard studio rate. Phil Circle Music now employs several teachers at the Chicago location, with lessons ranging from $60-75 per hour, depending on whether they're foundational or intermediate-advanced. MY BIO: Phil Circle Music has been Rated in the Top 12 Music Schools and Private Lesson Facilities in Chicago for FOUR YEARS IN A ROW. OUR NEW FACILITY IN LOS ANGELES has also been Rated in the Top 12 Music Schools in L.A. on the merits of the Chicago school method. I AM ACCEPTING STUDENTS IN L.A. WITH VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY. I've been a working musician for 30+ years and officially began teaching in 1993. I have a degree in Music Composition and Performance from Columbia College Chicago (Summa Cum Laude). I bring my experience to my teaching, tailoring lessons to a student's specific needs while making sure that she/he/they have the tools needed to master their instrument. Whether he/she/they are a professional, an aspiring pro, or a hobbyist, music is the most fun when you have the necessary skills to do it well. By understanding everything about your instrument, you can apply your knowledge and ability to any style you enjoy. The mystery shouldn't be in the theory or technique. It exists in the individual's need to create. I also work with everyone to find ways to develop their creative voice, their own unique style. As a singer-songwriter-guitarist and "DIY" and "Indie" before they were called that, I've used my lifelong career to also bring knowledge of the real world to aspiring musicians. I also coach people on the business end of music, songwriting, production, working in the studio, audition prep, and working in the studio. You can learn more about me, read reviews and hear my work on my main page or by simply doing a search for Phil Circle Music. I love the creative process. This includes teaching. Finding ways to understand each individual's needs, figuring out how they learn and applying this to their growth...so much of what I do involves being creative. So much of the rest is about giving. Performing and teaching, at their essence, are giving arts. It's incredibly rewarding.

Was searching for a new music/guitar instructor for my daughter (8y.o.) and came across Phil. I Immediately recognized that this was no cookie cutter instructor, and after only one month of lessons, my daughter's playing ability and confidence in playing the guitar increased tremendously. Phil tailors each lesson to the student, accepts and works with feedback, is very patient, and is an all around very knowledgeable and positive person who seems to care about his students and their progress. He is an excellent instructor and a very talented musician, I would highly recommend Phil.

Phil is a creative force that helped me get in touch with my songwriting abilities. He also holds you accountable to practice at home and be ready for your coaching sessions each week. When I started working with Phil I was afraid to sing in the shower now I play in a band and sing for every show. Great results!

For it being my first time taking vocal lessons I was not too pleased with the outcome. Phil ended up taking 2.5 hours of my time unknowingly when we agreed to 1 hour. It almost felt like I was attending a lecture to listen about this guy's life story. I would advise to keep the personal introduction to a minimum of 20 minutes, have the session be a lot more organized in what is going to happen and actually make it happen instead of rambling about his entire life and accreditations. He was nice, very interesting, but just not what I paid for. It would have been one thing to ask me about my experience in singing, music, or anything really but that was not the case. Within the entire 2.5 hours I was lucky enough to get a song in but forcefully when I told him its been 2.5 hours and I have to leave soon due to plans. It was pretty inconsiderate of my time and money. Would not go work with him again.
