Introduction: IMPORTANT NOTE: I'm currently near full capacity and it would be helpful if you only "check availability" if you're able to meet with me for a free virtual visit to determine if we'd be a good fit within a few weeks. In this session we'll get to know each other a bit, I'll assess your current skill level, answer any questions and we can make a plan that fits your unique goals. Hello and thank you so much for stopping by! My name is Shane and I'm a full time guitarist, songwriter, touring artist and aspiring record producer. Like most young guitarists, I grew up learning classic rock songs from Tom Petty, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pink Floyd, AC/DC and Jimi Hendrix. From there I started expanding into learning jazz, country/bluegrass, folk, pop, reggae and singer/songwriter styles. I started performing in bands and writing original music when I was 15. In 2014 I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance and composition. Through my work as a private lesson instructor at Music House Chicago, Tritone Music, Encore Music and as an outreach educator in Chicago Public Schools, I have found that when students are learning things they're interested in, they progress faster and actually want to practice and put in the work outside of lessons. My goal is to make learning guitar, bass guitar, piano or ukulele a super positive and encouraging experience. Another big goal of mine is to get every student up on stage and playing in a band within a year. In addition to providing a great lesson, I send high quality PDFs, tablature or sheet music, videos and any other resources that might set you up for a successful week of practicing. We also host two in-person concerts per year at awesome Chicago venues as well as two virtual concerts per year for our out of state clients. Feel free to book a trial lesson online at pennylanemusic.rocks.

Shane's a passionate and thoughtful teacher who goes the extra mile to provide his students with what they're looking for. I initially approached him saying I'd like to learn how to play some Jimi Hendrix and SRV songs, but once he learned that my interest was in understanding Blues as a whole genre and what makes these songs "work", he quickly pivoted our lessons to cover music theory as well. He always puts his students and what they want to learn first, and that flexibility, backed by his deep knowledge in music, makes him such a great teacher.

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Yes, can read guitar tabs • Electric • Rock • Blues • No, but the student is planning to purchase an instrument • 45 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

I'm an older student and Shane is a great teacher. He very professional and teaches according to a plan that originated from my goals as a student. He's professional, his lessons are clear and easy to follow, and everything we work on integrates nicely to make me a better guitarist and musician. I'd highly recommend him to anyone wanting to be a better guitarist.
