Introduction: While attending the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Silicon Valley in 2016, I was profoundly inspired by many young entrepreneurs from around the world. Most of them came from very humble backgrounds like me. That summit awakened the sleeping entrepreneur giant in me.
From that day in July 2016, I decided to become an entrepreneur in America. This was not farfetched for me. Prior to coming to America, I managed my brother ‘s successful mini-supermarket back home in Cameroon. It was a busy place that served hundreds of customers per day.
Thought it was a fast-paced marketplace, I always enjoyed interacting with customers. I also enjoyed getting my hands dirty to in keeping the business environment clean or solving challenging problems like buying and stocking items from far away, on-time delivery and good record-keeping. Above all, I enjoyed the satisfaction of my customers.
Although service business has always appealed to me, I was not sure what kind of service I should invest my time and effort in mastering. For over three years, I researched and experimented with different types of service-related businesses. During that time, I observed, tested, and under-studied many successful small business owners in Chicago area. I also took part time jobs in service-related fields such as healthcare, catering, and photography to test my comfort level.
One option significantly captured my imagination of what service is all about. The cleaning business was my favorite. To have a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the cleaning business, I took a part time job in cleaning for over 2 years in Chicago. Prior to that, I took training programs to learn how to clean homes and commercial places.
From that job, I learned from my mentors the details of the cleaning business. I also learned about the power of chemicals, the use of cleaning technologies and above all effective customer communication.
As the founder and director of Tech Cleaners, I am investing all my energy, commitment, and ability in managing a company that will serve as many people as possible. I am inspired by the visionary investor Warrant Buffet. Through hard work and commitment, one day, I hope I can be the Warren Buffet of the cleaning industry.
