Ron has done many home improvements for me over the years and has helped to make my home look great! He has done everything from electrical (changing all my lighting in my house and one of them was from a 2 story entry way Yikes!), plumbing ( new kitchen sink, garbage disposal and sump pump) to adding crown molding and glass to my kitchen cabinets and now they look custom. He is friendly, prompt, very fair pricing, very knowledgable in all home improvements and best of all he is a perfectionist. He will not leave the job until it is perfect and the customer is very happy. He did new tile in my mom's kitchen and now she loves him too! I've delt with many contractors over the years and really Ron is the best.

Eddie has done a great job. He has been wildly responsive to concerns, and the end result looks great. He laid tile, built a custom cabinet in a tricky location, and then trimmed out my cabinets to look like they were customized all along. We came up with innovative solutions for the cabinet above my refrigerator, so the new, taller fridge fit AND my cabinet doors open freely. It is a brilliant solution you'll have to ask him about.

Ed did an excellent job. I love my kitchen remodel. I get so many compliments on my new backsplash. He had cabinets, dishwasher and counter tops installed quickly. Plus installed a new window, ceiling fan and doors. He even did some minor upgrades at no cost, like changing my outlets. Was veryour friendly and efficient. Already have plans for him to do more work, backsplash in my bathroom and flooring in basement.

We hired Mateusz to install our kitchen cabinets. He was very professional and was able to start the job right away. All the details of our installation were completed as asked, and he even offered suggestions of how we could maybe do things a little better/more functional. He finished ahead of schedule and communicated to us during the entire process with updates, etc. We would highly recommend him to our family and friends.

Repaired finish on kitchen cabinet door matching it nicely. It was not a time sensitive job but did require some patience waiting for him to complete. Very reasonable price. I would use him again.

Don did an exceptional job refinishing my kitchen cabinets. There was one cabinet drawer that didn't take the stain well on the first pass, but Don re-stained the drawer so I was satisfied. I would highly recommend Don's work and professionalism to anyone needing his service.

Earl Teggatz completed an extensive list of tasks at my condo that I'm preparing for market. This included replacing handles and locks on nine double-hung windows; making doorknobs functional; repairing/replacing three light fixtures; painting an exterior door; making casement windows more functional; repairing kitchen cupboards; repairing a transom. He also spotted some work that I had forgotten to put on the list and took care of that, as well. I liked that he repaired a light fixture that I had been told by someone else had to be replaced. Earl completed the work in a very timely fashion, communicated well with me and charged a fair price.

I had several task that needed Juan's service. In the kitchen: Quarter round placed on baseboards, shelves placed on wall, small area that needed painting. My outdoor drain pipe to my sump pump needed to be extended into my yard. My faucet in the kitchen needed replacing. Lastly, my bathroom vanity needed replacing. Juan came out several days prior gave me an estimate and time it would take to do everything. He arrived as promised, completed all work in the time he quoted. I couldn't have been happier with the results

These guys were excellent!! They remodeled our kitchen, family room, and bath. From start to finish, they were highly communicative. They answers calls promptly and answered questions thoroughly. The finished product was perfect!! Rafal is able to offer the best prices on high quality cabinets and good prices on everything else. They were able to take care of a couple of structural pieces of the plan very well: they removed a beam and followed the architect's plans with integrity. I appreciate how much pride they take in the precision of their work; Jack made sure everything was to our liking down to the smallest details and even offered suggestions to improve the original plan. We will be recommending Rafal Home Improvement to all of our friends and family.

What a great guy, very talented, prompt, neat -- and he created terrific cabinetry for my bathroom reno project, exactly as I had requested and envisioned. His workmanship is impeccable. He is really an "old-world" craftsman who used to work for a well-known cabinetry company and is now doing work on his own. I highly recommend using Optincraft for any woodworking or cabinetry project you have in mind. That's The Savage Truth!

Carlos was very polite and very accommodating to the strict 2 week time line that we had. The new cabinet doors fit great and look beautiful. It makes the kitchen look completely new and Carlos was also able to put our new cabinet hardware on the cabinets. Carlos was also able to remeasure and make a couple new cabinet doors quickly after we installed a new/bigger sink. Would recommend his work to anyone and everyone looking to get work done on their kitchens.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

    How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

    Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

    • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
    • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
    • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
    • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

How much does it cost to refinish kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing revives dull or dinged-up doors and drawers. The cost of cabinet refinishing will vary based on factors such as the number of linear feet of cabinetry you have, the amount of nicks and scratches that need repair, the level of detail on your cabinets, and more. The pros typically will remove the cabinet doors and then sand or strip them down to create a beautifully smooth new surface. After prepping the surface with primer as needed, the pros may then repaint or stain the doors to give them a new lease on life. Cabinets with intricate detail or extensive surface damage will likely cost more to refinish, as they will take more time and effort. Keep in mind that you should only elect to do cabinet refinishing if the cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you plan to keep your current kitchen layout for a number of years. The investment will be wasted if the cabinet boxes are in disrepair and will need replacement soon, or if you’re planning a remodel in two years. The national average price range for cabinet refinishing is between $1,500 and $6,000.
