I moved back to Chicago in January with my husband and 2 young sons. After 2 years aboard our belongings were a jumble of stuff from 3 different houses. I needed help unpacking, sorting out the items I would need immediately and items to be put into storage until we bought a home. It was a huge job and I was overwhelmed! Terri came in with a plan, no judgement and enough energy to get the job done. She was organized (of course!), patient and a very pleasent person to spend a few days with while sorting through box after box. the thing i like the most about Terri is that she was so supportive and encouraging while giving me that extra little push I needed. Perhaps her greatest work was done in our kitchen. My husband had unpacked all our dishes, pots, pans, etc. It was nothing short of a disaster. I could find anything and things were literally shoved in the cabinates! Terri got in there and got the job done. It was a masterpiece! And the best thing is, she loves to do it! Organizing is her life! She is great! We just bought a home and will be moving in 1 1/2 months. Guess who I'll be calling first - Terri!!!May 25, 2011
Terri helped me transform my "problem room" from a room I dreaded entering into a room I enjoy being in. There are two things I liked most about working with Terri: first, the process was thoughtful. We weren't only organizing for the moment - one of Terri's priorities was to develop a workable system that (i) fit my needs and (ii) I could maintain on an ongoing basis (it's been about 2 months, and so far, so good). Second, Terri provided the energy needed to make sure we tackled the project. Terri wouldn't let us lose steam - she made sure we stayed on track so that we could reach our goal. Truly amazing stress relief! I have a walk-in closet space that for so many years has been in various stages of constant disorder and mess, a daily source of frustration - staring me right in the face! I had wasted so much time and effort for so long by trying to organize the space by myself without realizing the need for a professional organizer. At times I wished the clutter would just "go away", and trying to ignore it only made it worse. The hardest part for me was finally accepting I needed professional help. I was skeptical at first, but Terri came highly recommended by friends and even family. Terri quickly assessed my situation, and knew exactly what to do. Along the way she explained to me how to separate, sort and store, and made it all so logical and easy to understand. It also felt so good to get rid of what I no longer needed including donating several items so others could benefit too. Terri is patient and thoughtful and considered all my needs before making recommendations. She made for me what in the past had been tough decisions now become logical conclusions. Terri is a seasoned professional and I would use her services again without hesitation. Terri was referred to me by my sister who raved about her services. I needed someone to help me declutter our house to get it ready to put up for sale. Also, I have some back problems, so I was limited in how much lifting I could do by myself. Terri came to my rescue. She helped me to tackle what seemed to be an insurmountable job. It's amazing how much you can get done in a few 3-hour sessions. Terri helped me to determine what items should be donated, which kept and which thrown out. She helped me pack, box, carry and store our things. She also helped me to organize our new decluttered closets. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Not complicated. I offer package rates at 5, 10, 15, 20 hours with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% discounts, respectively. For suburban clients over 15 miles away, there is a travel charge.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I constantly read organizing books and participate in online webinars. I attended one national and two regional conferences through The National Association of Professional Organizers.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?The Chicago Organizer has been organizing since she was a kid whose parents made her a "Neat Freak" t-shirt! After spending 20 years in the corporate world and helping friends and family on the side, it was time to make it a business reality and spend time helping people with their organizing challenges.
