Scott & Karen squeezed us in for gutter cleaning service during a very busy week. Professional, courteous and hard working couple of people. Would recommend their services to others - gutters cleaned, grounds left clean of debris, etc.

Cesar repaired a section of my roof where decking had become loose and caused the shingles to buckle upwards. Cesar was the only roofer to come out to my house and visually inspect what needed to be repaired, other companies asked me to send photos then sent a quote based on the photos. Cesar gave me a quote that was more than fair for the cost of the repair and was able to complete the work that same week. It was a pleasure to work with Cesar and his company Ethic Roofing. I will use his company again and will refer friends and family to Ethic Roofing for their roofing needs.

We had a new roof and new gutters installed. The employees of American Bonded Xteriors arrived on time and with all the necessary supplies. When they removed the old roof they protected the side of our home as well as the neighbors home. The tear off went very smoothly and the clean up was outstanding! Our new roof went up quickly and looked great. We went with the suggestion from the owner of the company for the gutter color and design and it looks absolutely perfect. The workers were timely, neat and efficient. Our new roof and gutters make the house look updated and fresh. Absolutely recommend for the professional service and design help. The house looks great!

This was my first attempt at hiring someone via thumbtack. I won't bore you with the details, but long story short, we ended up choosing Loyola Roofing for a roofing job. Upon initial contact, I was nearly instantly connected to Phillip Rich, who gave offered to come the same day to to an estimate. Phillip showed up right on our scheduled time. I felt comfortable with the estimate and the expertise he provided, but my wife was rather adamant that we need to have other bidders give us a quote. It was hard to argue with that. That did not go so well though. Few estimates later, it was relatively obvious that Loyola was the only sensible choice. I contacted Phillip a day before Thanksgiving hoping he could squeeze us in before, or for, that weekend. He could. The same day we signed the contract. On Friday the project was completed. Phillip pointed out considerations for future projects and I can honestly say that we would hire him and his company again. The price was not low, but you get what you pay for.

Sam & his crew did a great job adding two brand new gutters & downspouts to help alleviate our rainwater issue. He & his crew also sealed our roofs to help extend their lives. I contacted Lonestar Roofing on Monday afternoon and Sam was here today (Wednesday) first thing in the morning with all of his supplies and crew ready to work. I feel that we were charged a very fair price & the quality of work is excellent. Sam & his staff were very professional and nice people who did excellent work. I would definitely refer Lonestar Roofing to others. Brad Carlson

Amazing service. I could not have asked for a better roofing company. Everything went amazing. Ali worked well to help process my insurance claim. He picked a great color for the roof. His contractor showers up early and worked late until they fished the job. I had a whole new roof and gutters in 3 days. I'd recommend him to anyone!

I called Quality Way Roofing & Construction to have the flashing on my roof repaired. They came out the next day to give me an estimate and started the work two days later. They were very knowledgeable and detail orient in explaining how the repairs would be completed. All questions and concerns were address. I had my flashing repair and aluminum coating put on my roof. There has been a few storms in this area and I have no more leaks thanks Tommy and Tony at Quality Way Roofing! They did such a great job on my roof I referred them to my parents to have their brick retainer wall repair and tuck pointing on their front porch. They did a fantastic job!

When I first met Steve he was very pleasant and tremendously nice. After being burn once before by a roofing company I was very leary about giving hm a deposit. But I had to step out on faith and I am so glad I did. Not only did he repair the mishaps from the previous company took before and after pictures to show me, the price I was quoted was within my range and there was no hidden fees or additions fees I should say. I will refer Steve to everyone I know and will hire him again for future jobs. Thanks so much for sending me his information.

James first did a thorough inspection of my roof and then gave me a fair quote. He picked up several replacement parts on his way to do the job, fixed everything I asked him to do, and even used a leaf blower to clean out my gutters while he was up on the roof. Thumbs up👍. I would definitely hire him again or recommend him to others.

All Weather Roofing came out quickly. They really know what there doing. I've had other roofing companies come out ... And to be honest, to me they did not explain anything to me! I had Pete from All Weather Roofing come out, inspect the roof and Pete wrote me out a free estimate on a new flat roof. Pete gave me a few options and was really easy going and new exactly how to handle my roof and my budget. I highly recommend All WeatherRoofing. Sincerely Sara S.

I hired HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla by the recommendation of my heating and air conditioning contractor. I hired him for an insurance claim for hail damage to my aluminum siding, he worked with the insurance adjuster for almost 2 months to get me the most that he could from the insurance company. They ended up paying for partial of the siding that was damaged but more than what they first offered because Joel brought to their attention many things they had missed. Instead of replacing the siding with aluminum again I upgraded to vinyl and paid the difference of the upgrade. I also had him install all 15 new windows that were well over due to be replaced. Joel is very easy to work with the crews that came to do the work were very professional and thorough. Any problems that arose were taken care of immediately and professionally. I plan on having HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla re-roof my house this coming spring. I would recommend Joel 100%.

I will highly recommend this roofing company. They replaced my entire roof down to the deck and installed brand new high quality plywood. They are very professional and really know what they are doing. Dave Miller is the person I dealt with. Very honest business owner. He gave me the correct advise on how to move with my roofing project. Absolutely no rip off business. They arrived on time and got the job done on time. I had couple minor problems during the work but it was very well professionally addressed and I got reimbursed with no questions asked. Their pricing is very competitive. I would highly recommend home owners to contact APR contracting first before talking to other contractors. Thanks.

My husband and I worked with Joe in GreenLight Construction Group. He really went above and beyond our expectation. He's very professional and knowledgeable about what he's doing. Working with him, you can tell that he has been done this for a really long time and very trustworthy. He helped us to save money, meanwhile gave us the best quality of work. Before choosing to work with him, we consulted at least four other roofers, so we know the average price of replacing our roof. What GreenLight quoted us was very reasonable and even cheaper than others. Joe also worked with our adjuster, he helped us saving huge amount of money by teaching us how to talk with our insurance company step by step. That was extremely helpful for us especially because both my husband and I are from China and first language is not English. In a totally different country and not knowing a lot people in Great Chicago area, it was very heartwarming to have a person like Joe who's very passionate about what he's doing, responsible, care and helping us as a friend. We really appreciate the work GreenLight did for us, and very thankful about them caring their customers like their friends. They finished the work for us yesterday, and it looks fabulous. According to our experience, we highly recommend GreenLight Construction Group, especially Joseph, to anyone who need construction in their house.

Contacted Steve @ Phoenix, he returned my inquiry immediately. Scheduled our repair request. Upon inspection told me I had storm damage. He worked with my insurance carrier and got me an entire new roof for only my deductible! Crew was excellent. In and out in 1 day. Cleanliness was good too. Overall couldn't be happier

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
