Michael's team has made my life easier. As a small business owner, doing my own quarterly taxes, monthly bookkeeping, and financial services on top of being mindful of my personal accounting and running a business was overwhelming. Flax CPA & Business Solutions wonderfully manages both my small business accounting and guides me through personal tax prep. I would (and do) recommend Michael and his team to all small businesses and freelancers - as well as individuals looking for accounting and tax help!

Working with Flax CPA & Business Solutions exceeded my expectations. I needed assistance with my tax return and accounting and this was the best decision I made. Michael was so caring and handled my taxes and bookkeeping with ease. He took the time to explain the process so there were no surprises along the way. I've already recommended him to many people and plan on utilizing his services going forward!

Michael has helped me with personal tax matters and recently with early ideation for a potential new venture. I eagerly refer folks in my network to Michael for a wide range of services - especially since he does work across the country. He is a thorough and truly thoughtful professional with real attention to detail while always keeping in mind your mission and long term strategy.

FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? The most important thing to understand is that paying a couple of hundred dollars more for a true professional can save you thousands of dollars in taxes. A certified public accountant heavily experienced in taxation will be able to provide far more value than an enrolled agent or other tax preparer with no certification. For tax preparation, I have a flat price per each form that we are required to file. I may charge an additional fee if additional schedules and/or state filings are required but most clients qualify for the basic flat fee. Tax planning is charged at an hourly rate but will not exceed a predetermined amount. Business accounting and bookkeeping is done on either an hourly rate or a fixed monthly fee.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I start by establishing the relationship with a simple consultation to learn more about you and/or your business' financial situation and understand the best ways I can help you. After the consultation, I will send you a link to a secure, online portal where you can easily upload your tax documents and/or accounting files. For tax preparation and planning, I will review the documents you have uploaded and promptly let you know if additional information is needed. Once the returns are completed, I will send them to you with the e-file signature pages via the secure portal for you to review and ask any questions. Once you are satisfied, I will e-file the federal and state tax returns and confirm with you once they have been accepted by the IRS and state authorities. For accounting and bookkeeping clients, I will reconcile your bank accounts with your payables and receivables on a monthly or weekly basis, depending on what is the best fit for your company. I then provide month-end reports that are specific to your industry and reflect the information that you need most. Any suggested adjustments to the accounting process will be discussed and explained before they are implemented.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?My experience and training comes from my time as a Senior Tax Consultant at Deloitte, the largest professional services firm in the world. I am a licensed CPA in the state of Illinois (with an average exam score 96%). I have an undergraduate degree in Accounting and I have an MBA degree in Finance where I learned about small to mid-size business best practices.
