Rev Moriarty was everything we wanted for our wedding ceremony. We had to plan our wedding in Chicagoland from NYC and were very nervous about finding our minster online. We had a few phone conversations with Rev Moriarty prior to our ceremony. We felt very at ease after speaking with him as it was clear he had performed many weddings. He had just the right amount of religious aspects to the ceremony. He did a wonderful job adding his own unique touches to make our wedding memorable to us and our guests. We had one guest say that she normally just zones out during the ceremony but was so moved by everything Rev Moriarty said. We trusted him with everything for the ceremony and were not disappointed with anything he did. You will be happy you chose Rev Moriarty!!

We used Mark Solock as our wedding officiant and couldn’t have been happier with the job he did.  We are a multicultural and multi-religious family who needed an officiant who understood our needs and was able to unify our ceremony. (BTW not easy to find) Mark was engaging and had a great pace to the ceremony.   Our schedules are ridiculous, and Mark was an excellent communicator who made sure we understood the time lines and what all was needed to make the event amazing! He even provided us with templates and the "what to do after" guidelines as well! Mark incorporated the story of us as a couple based on the meetings we had prior to the ceremony.  We had several compliments about the job he did and would recommend him highly for other couples looking for an officiant of their own.   Wonderful job Mark!

We hired Carrie for an intimate wedding of 80 people. Unfortunately our families did not enjoy their pictures being taken so we needed a photographer that was kind of invisible and not intrusive Carrie fit that requirement perfectly. She quickly took the pictures, with professionalism and southern kindness. You immediately felt comfortable with her. Her direction with our large families was swift and quiet.... And she has the ability to bring together a group of people (kids) quickly for a perfect picture. I would hire Carrie again without question. The quality of the pictures made everyone happy. She caught the essence of the wedding and the day perfectly. Our blended family is very happy. Thank you Carrie!

Where can I start? I could not have asked for a better night. Rick and Dance Pro DJ's made our whole wedding a blast and a night to remember. Starting from the "hand holding" Rick did with the music for our wedding cerony and reception all the way down to the photo booth. His way to keep the dance floor entertained all night was great. He catered to all the guests Old to young and all in between. Also the booth was so nice. They had an attendant there to assist all the guests and he was so helpful especially with the little kids. The photo strips were very clear and very professional and the props were tons of fun. Rick and Dance Pro DJ's get an A+ in making our wedding surely a night to remember. Thank you again. Jackie

I was truly blessed to find Kimia who photographed my wedding on 11/12/16. This young woman is a beautiful person inside and out. My kids felt comfortable around her and she was able to capture TONS of beautifully candid photos of our special day. I hope to use Kimia for all of our photography needs in the future. She is truly gifted!

We had Henry and his beautiful fiancé DJ my son and daughter-in-laws wedding last Friday and I was over-the-top impressed with the service we received. From their set-up to the music and lighting, everything was diffidently "a touch of class"!! Henry was johnny-on-the-spot making sure the ceremony, wedding party intro, first dance, dad/daughter, mom/son dances, etc, EVERYTHING ran smoothly! Even things I did not think of, they did and took care of it. The music was everything we wanted and even when there was a lull, Henry corrected it and got the dance floor packed again! Thank you soon much for making my son's wedding a huge success! As someone was leaving they told me that you can tell a wedding/party was great by the amount of people that stay till the very end. I'm excited to say we had about 70% still with us at midnight! Success in my book! Thanks again!!

DJ Bob B was without a doubt the most accommodating DJ let alone person I have ever dealt with. My wife and I basically winged our wedding but Bob B made sure he was ready for the ceremony and reception. He did this by coming early, taking names on a pad of paper and coordinating other activities throughout the night. He played every song we gave him and added another 3 like songs to the playlist just in case. We had a live band and Bob B was able to relieve them during breaks and keep guests going on the dance floor. The list goes on and I could not be more thankful and happy that DJ Bob B was the chosen one for our wedding. An amazing man and gem to Thumbtack. We had an absolute blast. Thank You Bob B!! -Cesar

We hired Harry for our small simple wedding. The wedding was held at Pinstripes in South Barrington. We have not received the photos as yet because it was less than a week ago. Harry was very professional, showed up early and seemed to be everywhere snapping pictures. I can't wait to see the photos he shot! Even at the reception I got several compliments regarding how good he was. Harry was very easy to work with and eager to please. I highly recommend him for any occasion. Very reasonably priced as well.

Mark was an amazing photographer. We booked him for our engagement photos, and we had such a great time with him and are extremely impressed with the photos he has sent us. He had an amazingly fast turnaround time for some sample photos with just a 2 day wait from our shoot. For the rest of the photos it only took him a couple of weeks! His work with lighting was spectacular, and he really made my fiancé and I enjoy the whole experience. We would highly recommend him to anyone wanting any photos taken, whether engagement, wedding, or even just portraits.

Konrad was exceptionally easy to work with! We had several specific time restrictions, split up sessions etc. and Konrad gracefully worked with us throughout all of this. He is polite, professional and friendly. My husband and I really enjoyed working with him and will definitely hire him again for future events...our daughters baptism for starters. Not only were the final pictures beautiful, we had a lot to choose from and the price was just right! We have had a ton of compliments on our wedding photos....and we love them. He captured our special day with a lot of detail and focused on just about everything and everyone. If you want a modern, kind, easygoing person to work with seriously consider Konrad, you won't be disappointed!

Ryan and his assistant Dan were amazing to work with. Prior to the wedding, Ryan was very responsive and answered all of my questions. He was available by phone, e-mail, and text. Over a 3 day wedding weekend, Ryan and Dan attended multiple events and captured every special moment plus captured posed photos for friends and family. I cannot recommend him enough, and would absolutely work with Ryan again if the opportunity arose.

Gene was a true professional! The props were amazing, payment easy, rate affordable, and my family LOVED the photobooth. We are so excited to have had GN Events at our wedding and end up with a file of photos detailing our friends and families having a blast. My brother missed the photobooth time slot, and Gene allowed him a last second photo! This is absolutely something will be talking about for many years to come. :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

How much do day-of wedding coordinators cost?

A day-of wedding coordinator makes sure that every detail of your wedding day goes off without a hitch, and deals quickly and quietly with any last-minute emergencies. For many brides, the day-of wedding coordinator is their best investment! The average national cost for a wedding coordinator is $800 to $1,000. Although full-service wedding coordinators often charge a percentage of the total wedding budget, most day-of coordinators charge a flat fee plus an additional hourly fee if the day runs long. For example, a 15-hour day-of coordination costs an average of $600, plus an additional $45 per hour if the coordinator works more than the planned 15 hours. Another option is to hire a coordinator to manage the last-minute details leading up to the event; for example, 25 hours of month-of coordination costs an average of $1,200. Several factors affect the cost of day-of coordination, including the region, the planner’s experience, and the specifics of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in two different locations, expect to pay more than if they’re in the same place. Also, extra details, such as managing food trucks or setting up snacks in addition to the meal, will increase the cost.

What should you ask a wedding coordinator?

When you hire a wedding coordinator, you want to make sure he or she gets you and can execute perfectly your vision of your dream wedding. To find the very best fit, it’s important to ask these five questions:

  • Are you available on my wedding date? If the coordinator isn’t available on your big day, there’s no reason to continue the interview — unless you’re willing to shift your date to accommodate their schedule.
  • What’s average cost of most of your weddings? If the coordinator’s usual wedding is outside your range, they might not be the right coordinator for you. Ask whether the coordinator requires a minimum wedding budget. In general, the wedding coordinator’s fee should be about 15 percent of your budget.
  • What is your speciality? Some coordinators specialize in day-of coordination, some create the overall vision, and others act as a producer. Make sure your wedding coordinator provides the type of services that will most help you create the event you have in mind, such as selecting vendors and handling their contracts, or managing the guest list and invitations.
  • What are your ideas for fulfilling our wedding vision? After you describe your dream wedding — rustic or sophisticated, traditional or funky — the wedding coordinator should be able to suggest appropriate venues, menus, decorations, etc..

Do you have a portfolio? Ask to see photos of their favorite weddings, especially if they’ve managed any that are similar to what you have in mind. This will help you see if you like their style and if their ideas seem fresh and creative.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
