Introduction: Private Yoga Offerings: Vinyasa Yoga - Simply put, vinyasa is 'linking breath to movement in series of poses' - this is quite open ended as you may imagine. This has spurred me to teach an unorthodox style of vinyasa yoga in which I will draw upon different perspectives from other movement practices (i.e. weight lifting, jiu-jitsu, mobility) to incorporate into my classes, with the goal of evolving and progressing my students quicker. Budokon (BDK) Yoga - This is a style of yoga created by martial arts and yoga master Cameron Shayne beginning in 2001. The foundation of this style is the Budokon Yoga Primary Series. This series consists of seven intelligently assembled sections of slow and controlled movements designed to improve mobility, agility, flexibility and strength. The techniques are learned through repetition and precision, the emphasis being on the transitions from posture to posture, rather than the holding of postures. During this practice we will also address the athletic, martial arts application of BDK Yoga. Private Mobility Offering: Budokon (BDK) Mobility - Created by Cameron Shayne, the father of mixed movement arts, BDK Mobility focuses on transitions through five primary positions. These positions include: upright, side body, supine, prone, and inverted. Mobility focuses on movement from a joint perspective, which will further magnify the subtle areas of the body that may be overlooked. During training we will also address the athletic, martial arts application of BDK Mobility. Bio: The physical practice of yoga began intertwining itself into my life in 2012. A friend recommended a Power Vinyasa Yoga class which shifted the trajectory of my path, it was a feeling of rejuvenation mixed with a stronger sense of empathy and compassion towards myself and others. Since that first class I had practiced yoga for five years and in June of 2017 I earned my 200 hour teacher training certification through CorePower Yoga. Continuing my education, during the summer of 2021, I completed a 500 hour Budokon Mixed Movement Arts Training in Montana. That following fall of 2021/spring of 2022, I received my 50 hour Budokon Yoga as well as my 50 hour Budokon Mobility certification. I've evolved my teaching style to predominately speak to the body, where students will learn more about their own anatomy and how to achieve depth in their yoga shapes using leverage and muscle activation. Constant learning is what makes yoga a lifelong practice, one way to create this longevity is to cross-pollinate with other movement practices. This has led me to instruct an unconventional style of yoga that often includes added mobility routines along with the added practice of functional human movements. I whole-hardheartedly believe yoga needs to translate outside of the studio because it is how we move ourselves during the 16 or so hours in which we are awake that greatly impacts how we practice movement for only one of those hours.

What a great find! Matt is an excellent yoga instructor who not just knows his stuff, but applies that to an individual's needs. His approach is mindful and I always experienced learning as well as application of better techniques. I highly recommend him as a private coach or teaching a class.

Details: 1 student (one-on-one with instructor) • 41 - 50 years old • No yoga preference • Intermediate • Increased flexibility • General fitness (e.g., weight loss, toning) • Relaxation • Meditation • My home, venue, etc.

I’ve been trying in and off over the last few years to get into yoga but I found the class setting difficult for me to get into it and improve. Since I started working with Matt four weeks ago I’m amazed by the progress I’ve made in such a short time. Matt knows his stuff and he shares his knowledge in a way that connects - he’s clear, he’s encouraging and he knows exactly the right amount of push you need to get to the next level. Highly recommended.

I have taken Matthew’s classes for years and always walk away satisfied and challenged. His classes will push you both mentally and physically out of your comfort zone. He has a calm and soothing voice that makes you feel welcome and have a sense of belonging, regardless of how long you have been practicing yoga or what level you’re at. My favorite aspect of his teaching is the way he cues the poses. As you hold the pose, he is giving pointers and explaining the proper alignment so that you constantly are improving your practice. He will also give multiple options to fit whatever challenge you’re looking for that day. His attention to the smallest of detail is unmatched. It’s clear that Matthew has a passion for teaching yoga.

Matthew is an amazing and professional yoga instructor. His classes are fun, motivating, meditative and challenging. He takes time to understand his students and ensures everyone is learning proper yoga techniques. In the 1½ years of taking his classes, I’ve learned to be more patient and appreciate what my body can do. He is truly a master of his craft. I leave his classes feeling energized and rejuvenated. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend him!
