Jack did an excellent, EXCELLENT top notch job mounting my Samsung Curved 65inch Ultra 4KHD Smart TV to a rock solid plaster wall. During an inside inspection, People's gas found 2 coupled flex pipes connected to our dryer and decided to disconnect our dryer and cap the connection (even though there was no gas leak). This left my spouse and I going to the laundromat for about a month and a half. I tried to hire a plumber through Westward, our condo management company, and that never panned out. so decided to look elsewhere for a solution. I signed up for Thumbtack and set up my project. Salvo with ISA Euro Pro Construction responded within an hour of my posting, we communicated about a time to come out, and they met me at my condo the next day. We'd received quotes to open the wall and that would have been a lot of time, materials + drywall and a lot of labor time. Salvo and Vito came up with a very nice and innovative solution to extend the pipe downward on the wall behind the washer and then installed a 5 foot flex pipe across to the dryer. The install looks great and I'm very happy with the final product. I am extremely satisfied with their solution, their professionalism, and the price; I highly recommend ISA Euro Pro Construction.

Last week in my house he replaced outlets, light plates, removed a timer in front of my house, covered it over with plate. Went & bought all the supplies. All this took 5.5 hours. He was late but he called me & told me he would be late. Everything looks great & works well. I needed additional work so we scheduled him to come back out and replace more outlets, fix my closest, fix my bed & rehang my mirror which fell of my wall. He did that work today & will be back another time for some more work, & then sometime in the fall for more work.

Wow is all I can say! Karol came out on a Thursday to give me a quote on a roof deck custome wood wall, which was very reasonable. His team came out the following Monday and completed the project by Wednesday evening...efficiency cannot be overstated! The work product was of great quality and we are very satisfied. Glad we have found a reliable contractor!

Brendon & Kyle came to take down our plexiglass from our screened in porch. They texted me to let me know they were running late and then sent me the exact time they would be at my house. They were polite and courteous. They got the job done quickly and without issues. We were nervous since this was the first time someone other than the builder or ourselves who have handled the plexiglass which can crack if it bends too much. They did a fantastic job and I would definitely hire them again to put the plexiglass back up this winter!

I hired BC to install drywall on a newly built wall when it became clear that my carpenter couldn't do it properly. BC saved the day. I was impressed with the speed and efficiency of his work and would hire again for my next project.

Tom was great. Sent his quote right away and was good about communicating start date and order of project. His quote for a bathroom was very fair and he provided all receipts for purchases. The project started out differently. Our water line from the water heater to the humidifier on our furnace broke the night before. I thought I may as well ask Tom to fix on his first day before calling a plumber and he happily repaired it quickly. He is very skilled and can do everything. He and his co-worker were very respectful and very clean. They even laid a tarp down in our garage when cutting tile. My wife likes things tidy and you really couldn't even tell they were there when we got home. In the middle of the project we decided to tile an entire wall and they had no issue with adding for another fair price. Tom also had great recommendations and photos for grout. He really wants to make sure his customer is happy. If you're looking for someone that is friendly, honest, does not cut corners and is very talented, I definitely recommend reaching out to Hercules Construction. Above and beyond experience with those guys.

Last winter, the snow really took a toll on my roof and subsequently, my living room. Once I got the roof fixed, I needed the living room ceiling repaired and painted. I contacted Perfect Interiors and Ed (the owner) gave me a very reasonable quote to do the entire room. The workers arrived on time, repaired the water damage and painted the ceiling. Ed helped me pick out the perfect wall color as well as an accent color for one wall. I can hardly believe it's the same room! Ed was so helpful I decided to have him remodel my master bathroom. I didn't know where to start but he assisted with choosing a vanity top, sink, fixtures, tile and paint colors. Once again, they did a wonderful job. Five stars!!

Nov. 21, 2017 Met with B. Zmuda to review the work and got an estimate. Agreed on terms and the job commenced and completed the next day. Excellent repair of wall, trim and ceiling damaged by a roof leak in 2016. Satisfied in all areas. Value is relative - their portfolio photos of previous restoration aided our decision. Would recommend and use their service again if needed. Will post before and after photos later. P. Smith

My experience with D2O Army Construction came at a most important and wonderful time; my husband and I were expecting our first born and wanted to create a nursery space in our room for her. The paint job was beautiful and they built a separating wall for the nursery that looks as if it was always there. It was such clean work. Not only did a D2O Army Construction consultant go with us to help us price the best materials but they completed a job in days that I thought would take weeks! They were very reasonable with costs (we did not exceed our budget) and I am planning on calling these guys again for any work I need in the future. Highly recommend!

Very professional work, applied drywall to a complicated situation involving an exposed wall with external piping. Per my request he created openings for certain access pipes but did this in an artful manner. Otis is a cheerful professional who completed the work promptly in a short period of time and left my condo without any debris or signs he was there, just a perfect wall. Very reasonable price.

The value I received for the money spent can’t be beat. I lost my walls, ceiling and floors due to a flood disaster and needed somebody in here fast. Dennis and his guys flew in, installed drywall, and painted my entire condo in record time! Simply put, they are very nice guys that produce good quality work at affordable prices. Ive hired them to install my floors next week and I look forward to working with them again! Thanks again guys!

Francis and his team did an outstanding job, we couldn't be happier with the level of work and the service provided. Francis was able to schedule us in quickly and he or his team were there exactly when they said they'd be. Francis even helped me pick out a wall color. Every step of the way was done professionally and courteously and our house was left cleaner than when they came. We plan to use Francis for any other work we need and would highly recommend.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
