The project was smooth from original contact to completion. Shelton worked with us to find the best alternatives in replacing most of our deck. Attention to detail was exceptional. Definitely recommend Shelton and Alex for your project.Sep 25, 2018Verified
Had Shelton come out and quote multiple small projects in order to get my home ready to put on the market. Shelton came out and gave me a fair price on all the projects and after reading great reviews, I felt confident going forward with him to do the work. I wrote Shelton a check for $580 (half) and looked forward to having work started. Shelton arrived the next morning with a crew member to begin working. One of the projects was installing a gas pipe for a stove. The work looks good and minus a missing flange he said he would install, Great job. Another project started that day was painting of two bedrooms. When Shelton originally quoted me, he said he would paint the ceilings and when I asked about color, Shelton said any color would be fine. My family and I felt comfortable with Shelton being in the home without us and we decided to leave while the work was being completed. Before I left Shelton asked if I actually wanted the ceilings painted and we both agreed that they looked perfect and it would be acceptable to forgo painting the ceilings. Now I didn’t ask, but no price adjustment was made. When we got home Shelton and his crew member were finishing up painting. Shelton told me it took longer than he expected because he didn’t realize the paint color was going to be different. Shelton packed up for the day planning to return the next morning. Again, with the reviews I had read, I did not immediately check the work. A while after Shelton left, my wife went to see our freshly painted rooms and called me upstairs. There were over 16 spots of paint on our recently replaced carpeting! I took pictures and sent them the Shelton just to give him a heads up. I then began to clean the spots as best I could. I originally just accepted it as a mistake but during the 1.5 hours it took me to clean them, I got to see the quality of the paint job. Every foot or so of baseboard had paint on it, window frames had brush strokes on them, and the ceilings in both rooms had paint or smudge marks from paint being cleaned off on them (now need painting). At that point I decided to contact Shelton and let him know the damage to the carpet and the sloppiness with the paint job was unacceptable. I spoke with Shelton directly. I explained to issues and that I would not like him to continue working in our home. Shelton gave no excuses which I appreciate. Shelton offered to work with me as far as a refund or fixing the issues. At first I was thinking I would be willing to work with him to correct the issues and I still had other projects he had quoted to finish, but the more I walked around the rooms while on the phone, I could not find any acceptable reason other than he just must have not cared. I don’t know what happened….Shelton has great reviews. It honestly felt like my property and stuff was just not respected. My wife and I went to put the blinds back up and found knots in the pull cords and broken brackets for the valances. It seems like they were just thrown to the ground. Shelton was a very nice person and I truly felt bad when I had to tell him I wasn’t going to have him complete the work. I wasn’t even going to write a review. The more I think about my experience, the quality and care received, I feel like I got taken for a ride. I still have a home to sell and now need to either paint myself or hire someone to do it and professional cleaning is going to be required for my carpets. Sadly I did not receive the same quality that others reviews and I’m hopeful for Shelton that this was a fluke but I will say I’m very disappointed with my experience with hiring Shelton and glad I decided to stop any further damage to my home.Mar 21, 2018VerifiedAsst Construction & Remodeling Services's reply
I am the owner, and I must apologize, it was very unprofessional of me to be in such a hurry that I did not take the time make sure my work for the day was done properly, including clean up. Which, I consider, to be just as or even more important than the amount of work completed. I do care and take pride in what I do and the service I provide. However, on this occasion I have dropped the ball. And as the owner I do not have anyone to keep me in line, so customers are in the position to keep me accountable. And this review does that exactly. I do appreciate feedback good or bad, so I can continue to provide the best quality customer service and workmanship. As for the color change, we did not discuss color change, it was supposed to be the same color, and one coat to freshen up the rooms was my understanding. The price adjustment for not painting the ceilings was not discussed due to work in progress. I would have made an adjustment prior to final payment. The quality of the paint application, I cannot comment to because, I did not do my part by inspecting the work and the clean-up process. I did try to work out a reasonable resolution to their concerns. Offered to finish what I started at no extra cost. I do understand that they were not comfortable with me making it right, especially after the fact, I did not do what was required to begin with. As for the stains on the carpet, the only option I have left to correct this situation, is to pay for the cleaning of the carpets of the two rooms, I am willing to do so. Moving forward as a reminder to myself, I posted the review on my desk. The review is the first thing I see when I sit at my desk. I had worked very hard to build credibility and a 5 star rating. One unsatisfied client is all it took to lose credibility, and all the hard work I put forth was wasted. Rebuilding my credibility and professional rating is top priority. However, Customer Service is back on top of the list to the start of rebuilding my professional standing.
Great overall job, it’s tough to find people as responsive and organized as Shelton. Not only was he accurate in his timeline, but also helped me out with things that came up on the fly and didn’t tack anything on to the original price we agreed to. If you’re looking for great customer service I would call Shelton.Jul 11, 2018Verified
Came to replace some rotting boards on my 17 year old deck, now I got a new deck! As he would find things wrong, he would always show me and explain what he could do to fix it or leave as is. Always gave me the choice. Already putting together a list of new projects!May 13, 2017Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? We charge a flat rate of $65 per man. Rate includes labor, equipment, and Contractor Insurance. In some cases, such as paint, tile and finish trim work requires linear or square footage pricing. Which will be explained and negotiated during the estimate process. All estimates are obligation free.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? We communicate through thumbtack initially. Then, I generally like to schedule a time to meet in person so you can get a feel for my character. And also go over any ideas that you may have, so there is no miscommunication. And it's the time I am able to answer any questions that you may have. From there I like to schedule dates and times that are convenient for both you and I to complete the work. We require a 50% down payment with remaining balance due upon completion.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have an Associates in Business. Also I have over 30 plus years of construction experience. My experience varies from general remodeling to full rehabs. My main area of expertise is Masonry. However, I have many trained skills, which include rough/finish carpentry, drywall tape/finish, and painting. These are just a few areas I have professional training in.
