I believe working with David is going to be a great experience. As an adult having played the piano for many years, he listened to what I wanted out of a teacher and was flexible to meet my needs. His improvisation techniques are going to help me enjoy piano like I have never done before.

My daughter has been a student of Mr. Kellen for two and half years. Since joining his studio, her music theory and piano skills have developed amazingly. He is a GREAT teacher and we are so happy that we found him!!!

Great teacher and a great experience. There is always an interesting piece of music waiting at the right level. Great mix of misical theory and fun playing.

My oldest daughter started working with David when she was 5 years old and has been doing so for the past 10 years. Her brothers have also taken lessons from David and the experience has been a great one! David really keeps the music fun and curbs it towards what the children not only want to play, but also the necessary tools they need to be successful. Whethere my boys continue with the piano or move on to another instrument, I definitely feel our time with David has been worth the commitment and respect David as a role model for my children, not just as a teacher but also an adult mentor!!!

David's innovative teaching style is beyond compare. His energy and creativity lends itself to working and adapting to the learning styles of a variety of students. My 14 y/o daughter has been taking lessons from David for 2 1/2 yrs. I couldn't be more pleased that we chose Studio K to develop her skills.

David does a great job of working with all age groups. My son started when he was 9. He is now a freshman and continues taking lessons at Studio K Music. He's still learning and still having fun playing piano. I would highly recommend David and Studio K.

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently taking lessons with one of the Chicago area's finest Jazz players, Frank Caruso. I take what I learn and apply it directly to my jazz students. I also work closely with an incredible classical pianist who constantly challenges me to reach beyond my current ability. You never stop learning!
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I taught classes with a professor at Northern Illinois University years ago. He taught me how to teach, and from there, I opened my own studio.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Piano instruction. I guess that explains it! I'm also available for events such as weddings, corporate and private parties.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Every day I try to be the best teacher I can. Anytime a student plays well and understands what he/she is doing, that makes me proud.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Hire someone who does this for a living. Stay away from people who do it as a side project for extra money. Most likely, they are not qualified, nor is their heart really into it.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I' ve been doing this for nearly twenty-five years, and I'm really good at what I do!
