I selected Julia to tutor my son for his 11th grade IB Chemistry. Like many parents we want someone who is reliable and knowledgeable in the subject. Julia turned out to be extremely helpful. I selected many tutors at the time but Julia impressed me with her familiarity with IB and honor classes for high school students. From the first time she responded promptly to my request, to all the extra assignments she worked with my son, Julia is excellent in her expertise. She helped my son, who was struggling in chemistry at the time, by explaining the concept thoroughly. She went over all his missing assignments and gave him a better explanation than his teacher. He finished his IB chemistry with an “A-“ from a “D.” I know most of us parents sometimes wonder if the money is worthwhile!!! It was worth it for us. Of course the kid must put in the work too.! A tutor can only do so much. I didn’t expect a miracle worker but it turned out that way. I highly recommend Julia as a tutor for any STEM classes! Very patience and kind. In my daughters first tutoring session she explained everything throughly allowing my daughter to have a understanding of her math work. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is based on how advanced my student is in their studies.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always begin with an evaluation of my students' current knowledge based on their work done in school, after which I suggest a personalized plan to tackle their goals based on how much time they have before their next test, end of the semester etc. I always tailor my teaching to my students' personal needs. No student is the same nor do they all learn in the same way so I adapt my teaching style to best serve them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a junior at Loyola University Chicago majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular/ Cellular Neuroscience on a premedical track. Due to my rigorous coursework, I am very familiar with the standards set upon college students and I myself have struggled and preserved through this material. I know what it takes to ace the dreaded "weed-out" classes of STEM and I know how to guide my students to success. Likewise, in high school, I took many AP classes including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics C among many others, giving me a unique and very recent perspective for mastering these difficult courses.
