Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.
Matt is a wonderful teacher! He takes time to learn what kind of musician YOU want to be and what YOUR musical tastes are and develops your lesson plans from there. Some of the things that he has taught me have stuck with me years after his lessons. Highly recommend.
Pete is an awesome teacher. I was able to learn many chords within a 2 month time period. Now I regularly sing at open mic's with my guitar instead of having my friend play guitar for me. I definitely recommend Pete as a guitar teacher.
Had a corporate event at NAHA in Chicago. Nick and the quartet struck the appropriate balance of great jazz that gave the event a perfect ambiance. Very professional quartet. Would hire again.
I would not be the singer and artist I am today without the instruction and guidance I received from William Powers. His years of professional operatic experience and enthusiastic teaching style have given me both the tools and technique I need to compete in the extremely demanding field of opera, as well as the confidence to believe in my talents. His support and mentorship continue to shape me as an artist, and any student of voice would be fortunate to have William Powers as a teacher. I recommend him whole-heartedly and without hesitation!
Michael is a fantastic guitar instructor. He has a great way of applying different teaching methods to ensure the student success. I would highly recommend him to others looking for guitar instructions at any level.
My kids are taking her lessons. She is patient and thoughtful. After all, she is a gifted pianist. We are very happy to work with her.
I enthusiastically support the recommendation of Nicole Auriemma for employment as an entertainer (guitarist and vocalist) in the Chicago area. I have known Nicole Auriemma for the past year and have employed her numerous times to provide musical entertainment during our summer villa events. Nicole always showed up on time and entertained our guests on a very professional level. Nicole is a pleasure to work with and always brings a smile and positive attitude whenever she plays guitar. It is very apparent that she enjoys performing for audiences in any type of environment." Sincere and best regards, Steven T. Samson
Carlyn has worked many different gigs for me, personally and professionally. A specific occasion in my personal life, was our wedding. It was an outdoor affair at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. Even though I have a degree in music, I had very few ideas for what might work for that specific venue. Carlyn is very accommodating to her clients wishes, but provides excellent consultative service when the client is ambivalent or just overwhelmed with the planning process of the event. She is punctual, has a vast network of service providers, and even recommended the officiant for our ceremony. Carlyn is a top notch musician, with a lovely personality. it is easy to talk to her and work with her to match the needs of the event. She works very hard to stay at the top of her craft, and it shows. Please consider her for your next special event. You won't be disappointed.
Kathryn was exactly what I envisioned when I set out to find a jazz singer for my father in law's birthday party. Her voice is seriously gorgeous and she was very easy to work with. She was flexible with me throughout our time planning the gig and was able to accommodate all of my requests. While her song list is quite vast, there were a few special tunes she specifically learned for this event and they sounded fabulous. She found the perfect accompaniment in a very talented guitar player as well. Throughout the time Kathryn performed and for hours afterwards I received compliments from other guests for finding such a talented duo. The men and women alike were very impressed with the quality of music, song selections, appearance, and demeanor of both musicians. Everyone thought the music really added something special to the party. Most importantly, my father in law was absolutely amazed with what wound up being the perfect gift for him. He was very impressed and I was so happy to see his face when Kathryn sang one of the songs she especially learned for us. He'll never forget it. I'd hire Kathryn again in a heartbeat.
Vinnie is a very talented musician with a wide range of genres. He took requests and rocked them all! We got compliments all night on Vinnie's performance! He was the best part of our event! Highly recommended!!!
More than just a teacher. I took guitar lessons with Paul for eight years. He helped me realize my natural ear for music, and allowed me to figure out what I wanted to learn. Our lessons were always different. Sometimes I would bring in songs that I wanted to learn, and sometimes he would have things he thought I should know how to play, which helped me learn similar songs later on. When I was applying to college and needed to learn how to read music and play jazz guitar, he tailored all of our lessons so that I could learn those techniques quickly and most importantly, efficiently. Paul's personality transcends the teacher-student relationship, which allowed he and I to become very good friends. Paul William is an excellent teacher for whatever you need to learn. You can't go wrong taking lessons from him.
Jerri was great...very patient and flexible as she kept my guests singing the Christmas carols we requested. Perhaps most impressive was her willingness to trek out during a snow storm! Would hire her again in a second...
Dollar for dollar, hiring The Band Sundance was the best decision we made in our wedding budget. The band gave us a great experience from beginning to end. We had numerous guests say we had the best or one of the best receptions they have ever attended because of the music and our dancing (obviously aided by the music). They kept asking where I found them and how much I must have paid to book them. As great as the band was, they did not detract from us as a couple. Jim and the band planned everything to cater to us. They provided a DJ for the breaks, and a few songs we wanted outside of their repertoire were played on break. They even let me sit in for a song. I found them through this site, and did a lot of other research on them before booking. We wanted a band who could provide the 1940s big band sound for swing dancing and also play contemporary rock, pop, and country with everything in between (50s, Elvis, 80s, polkas, waltzes, etc.). Moreover, we wanted a band who played both “In the Mood”and “Uptown Funk” well. Hard to find, huh? Well, here they are. They read the crowd well and knew what songs to play to keep people excited and on the dance floor. They have a full sound with keyboards, drum set, lead guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, sax, and vocals, and they blended very well as a ensemble. They helped give our reception such an amazing energy. This praise might seem effusive from anyone who has not seen them, but you cannot go wrong with these guys.
Yuen Yee has been teaching our son piano and clarinet for the last 6 years. He has learned to read notes and enjoy playing music. All wouldn’t have been possible without her wonderful teaching technique supported by her calm personality and patience. Thank you Yuen Yee!
