My experience with Mike Savegnago, (Owner), his crew, and Handyman Connection overall was excellent and better than I was expecting. I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to write one on this company and their staff. Their customer service is one of the best I've experienced when dealing with contracted work and they made me feel comfortable and very confident every step of the way. I'll admit, I'm always skeptical of contract household work but the results of their work was amazing and their pricing is super-competitive. First I would like to introduce myself. I'm Andrea Miller, owner of Miller Chicago Real Estate, a commercial real estate firm. I have experience and relationships with many large contracting companies in the Chicagoland area, but when I had a couple emergency repairs all come up within a week on a rental condo unit of mine, the jobs were not big enough for some of the GCs I know to put them on the top of their priority lists. I asked Mike, owner of Handyman Connection if they could help, and immediately he put me in the schedule. They fixed a leak in a water line on my shower fixture, replaced 2 light fixtures, and replaced an electrical outlet that a tenant had burned out due to using a European appliance without the proper voltage converter. The work was done very professionally and the craftsman was able to handle all my needs as opposed to some companies who only cover 1 specialty, requiring me to coordinate with several companies to get all the items done. He was also proactive in his suggestions, coming up with a few improvement ideas that I hadn't thought of previously. The best part about him was that he really listened and cared about me being satisfied. The organization of the process was impressive and it was stress free for me. I am happy to recommend them for any projects large or small.

After receiving a personal recommendation to the owner of Handyman Connection of Wheaton, I contacted him, and in spite of the distance, Mike was very gracious in coming out and assessing what needed to be done to stain my cedar deck. The price he quoted was affordable, and he followed up with email information about the product he recommended. The work was scheduled in a timely manner, and I was contacted throughout the process to assure good communication. The workman did an outstanding job, was professional and respectful, and left the area spotless. The deck looks beautiful! I only regret not knowing about Mike's company years ago, because I tried various products and painters to work on the deck over the years and never had results this good.

Started off great and finished horribly. Behind schedule and they did a poor job. I had them repaint every room and ceiling in my (3000sq ft) home and all the wood-grain baseboards, trim, etc. As far as baseboards and trim, its all chipping! Not to mention, I see drip marks everywhere. There's areas of the walls that are streaky and sections of baseboards that may have only received the primer coat. He repeatedly pulled painters off my job to send them to other jobs. One of his staff even profusely apologized to me because he noticed it was clear that the craftsmanship was shotty. I sent the owner an email asking him to come back out to fix these problems areas and he responded extremely defensively and said "you cant use my labor for free". This all happened back in July, and I've been so annoyed since, so I a decided to write a review so this doesn't happen to others. I'm still thinking about this. And everytime I look down at a chipped baseboard, I get even more annoyed. As you can imagine, our job wasn't cheap. So therefore you can imagine how offended I was when he stated I couldn't use his labor for free. True. I can't. Thats why I paid over $10K. The job wasn't completed satisfactorily. Find different painters. Don't use Handyman Connection----especially for large jobs.

We were happy to accommodate the additional projects that you added to the original quote, which included removing a half wall and crown molding. This type of work also added extra drywall work that requires multiple trips by our craftsman to complete the process. Due to an already established work calendar and the amount of work added, the original timeline established became invalid and additional labor, and material cost was incurred that ultimately increased the cost of your project. Our main goal is to provide excellent service, quality work and, when a need arises, address any outstanding issues our clients may have at the completion of a project. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Handyman service calls: We're currently charging $50 for estimates appointments, this paid amount will be deducted from your balance due should you decide to approve our proposal. Our minimum work order is $135 for up to 1 hour of work, this is more of a trip charge for small jobs. We will quote an exact price to perform a scope of work, we don't charge hourly. Remodel projects: A sales advisor would typically come to your house for this and would get a lot more detailed with you on your needs for the project.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We give free estimates and will come out to your house and give you an electronic or written proposal for the work you request. If requested we can sometimes do smaller projects on the spot, service calls, but most jobs we will quote on the spot and then schedule a time to come back and perform the work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our craftsman have a minimum of 10 years experience in their trade, most have 15-25 years. Depending on the type of work order we do have licensed electricians or plumbers to perform jobs that require this.
