Good Bye Angies List Ollie and his partner were super heroes. I had 2 rooms of over size and heavy and awkward furniture to store in the garage while the carpeting in my home was getting replaced. They arrived at the promised time, keeping in touch all the while-I only found them on thumbtack late last night. They worked so hard and so quickly i was amazed. What a happy surprise. I hope they will come back when the carpet is finished to help me put all the stuff back!

I wasn't home however my dad said he would hire Andy in a heartbeat. I posted my request on Sunday night and Andy was one of my first three responses. He came the next day to replace 4 switches which were originally dead. He knew right away that I had the wrong switches. He was done in about an hour and half. The big plus was that he got a switch to work for the first time since I have lived in the house (2004). Thank you do much.

Mathias was very responsive to my requests and arrived on time (early). He got straight to work and was very thorough and thoughtful in his work. He installed wall sconces on my brick wall, hung a couple of challenging curtain rods and answered numerous questions I had regarding electrical work. I have a couple of other items that need attention so I'll certainly be seeing him soon. Very professional and detailed. He is definitely my new handyman! I highly recommend Mathias for any home project.

James helped me mount my TV and worked tirelessly to help me hook up a home audio system that was a complete pain to get going. He kept coming and spent hours and hours of his time way above the call of duty. It is comforting to know that you can count on someone to keep going until the job is done right. Now my home theater is up and going and the sound is gorgeous. Its all thanks to you James!

Walt with WB was wonderful! I needed a fence built at a new home in short order to keep some dogs contained. Walt got out the next week to get the job done. Even working alone, he fenced in the yard with shadow box fencing within 3.5 days. He pulled all permits and even made sure to call the permitting office later on one the final day to ensure someone had gotten out to sign off on the job. Would definitely recommend WB for fencing or any other household need.

Lyndell did an outstanding job on our powder room. He came to our home to give us an estimate. He told what exactly needed to be done. He showed me the area needing repairs. Other companies expanded the area of repair in their estimates. He worked tirelessly on the project. The powder room looks like no work was ever done. Excellent. I highly recommend Lyndell's Home Remodel and Repair.

All state renovations was a dream to work with. They worked around my traveling schedule, allowed me to shop their quote around, the workman treated my home like it was their own. I could not be happier with my new kitchen. I love the value. My wife just loves the kitchen.

He is a former house inspector. This is an extremely valuable perspective when you consider making changes to your home. He is thoughtful and measured. He completed several extensive projects in my home: replacing wood flooring in my entranceway with tile, refacing my fireplace surround where he demolished existing large boulder stones and replaced with sleek flat tile and even suggested I lower the hearth to the floor for a more modern look. He shrunk the footprint of an oversized kitchen island that involved moving cabinetry and plumbing and preparing the base for a new top and he helped me redo my powder room and replaced my '80s mirrored cabinet fronts with custom stained wood. I am happy and very pleased with the work he has done on my home. He made a number of suggestions about how to maintain my home going forward. I appreciated this expertise.

Stonehenge contractors do terrific work for a very reasonable rate. Rory James & his team perform in a professional manner and their work is 1st class. They did a kitchen/breakfast room remodel for us that first involved the demo (removing all the old tile and cabinets), and then installed new tile, cabinets, dishwasher, some plumbing rework for a multiple sink design and then face brickwork installation behind our industrial kitchen stove. The job turned out better than we imagined and in less time than expected. Rory also installed a temporary kitchen counter-top and small sink so we have a functional kitchen until the granite counter-tops come in a few weeks. At that time Rory will come back to hook up the permanent sinks and install the back-splash tile. We will definitely use Stonehenge again when we remodel the master bathroom and also recommend them to anyone that is doing any type of home remodel/improvement project. John & Bonnie C. Otis was very friendly and responsive. He took the time to complete the work to my satisfaction. He was a little late the second day but did notify me of the situation. Cost was very reasonable and I would use him again for small jobs around the house.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

How much does it cost for surround sound installation?

If you’re installing your dream home theater, you want the perfect sound system to round it out. The cost for surround sound installation will vary based on the speaker system you select, the amount of wiring and prep required for the job, and labor rates in your region. Home theater installation specialists can advise on the best surround sound speakers for your space and the technology you are using. Here are some examples of average home theater installation costs and the cost of surround sound speakers:

  • TV wall mount and up to 5 wall-mounted speakers with hidden wires: $399.
  • 60-inch TV and small home system: $2,080.
    • Equipment cost: $1,680.
      • Five box speakers and subwoofer: $500.
      • Three HDMI wires: $30.
      • Surround amp: $250.
      • 60-inch TV and bracket: $900.
      • Labor cost: $400 Including setup, wiring and TV mounting.
  • Projector and screen system plus audio wiring throughout home: $12,900.
    • Equipment cost: $9,900.
      • Approximate wire costs: $2,700.
      • Projector and bracket: $1,500.
      • 110-inch screen: $600.
      • Surround amp: $500.
      • 5-inch ceiling speakers and sub: $1,400.
      • Remote control system: $400.
      • Eight zones of speakers and volume controls: $2,800 ($350 each)
      • Labor cost: $3,000. Includes prewiring for 5-inch ceiling speakers, one subwoofer, one 20-inch to 50-inch HDMI, Cat. 6 control wire to projector, 1.5-inch tube for future wire changes, and wiring for two to eight additional audio zones throughout the home. All equipment (audio boxes, amps, cable box, etc.) is concealed. The audio zones are controllable by iOS devices from anywhere in the home.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.
