I received my Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Illinois in 1974 and my Master's degree in Music Education a year later, in 1975.
I taught instrumental music (band & orchestra) in the Champaign/Urbana school systems while working on my Master's degree.
After receiving my degrees, I ran the music programs for a small town in western Illinois. This included band, orchestra, chorus, general music and private instrument lessons.
After teaching in public school systems, I went to work at Karnes Music Company in Des Plaines, Illinois as a guitar and piano instructor.
I recently founded the Silbernik Music Academy in Highland Park, IL., and am now using my educational and performance experience to teach students of all levels.
What types of customers have you worked with?

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for a teacher that loves to teach, and loves the age group that they are teaching.
Too many musicians teach to supplement their performance income, and not because they really want to.
Teaching is a skill. Just because someone is a great player, does not mean that they are going to be a good teacher. Look for someone that is teaching because they want to. Not because they have to.
