Irwin is great with young kids, and my twin boys (almost 7) have been enjoying beginning guitar lessons with him. I like that he teaches them how to read music and encourages them to memorize songs. It's how I learned piano as a little girl and I'm enjoying seeing the boys progress and learn to understand written music. My goal has been for the boys to get used to a weekly music lesson and enjoy that as part of their weekly routine...so far Irwin has been a great fit for us and I highly recommend! :)Feb 7, 2016
My daughter has been taking guitar lessons with Irwin for the past few months. She loves it! His affection for children, as well as his expertise is obvious. I would highly recommend him as a guitar instructor!Jan 5, 2015

Guitar Lessons (for adults)
I am a long time self taught guitar player. Irwin is really helping me fill in the gaps to move my playing to the next levelOct 19, 2016Verified
Irwin is the real deal! He is the only instructor I found with degrees in both Music and a Masters in Music Education, to say this guy knows his stuff is an understatement. I have had about 5 lessons with Irwin so far and plan to stick with him for years to come. He has taught me so many things already that I wish I knew years ago. He immediately corrected some minor bad habits that have had a major difference in my playing. As he put it, he wants to teach you music as a language, once you know the language you can play with anyone at anytime. This is what everyone should be looking for from a teacher, I am glad I found him:)Jan 27, 2016
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I offer 30 minute lessons for $35.00, 45 minute lessons for $52.50 and one hour lessons for $70.00. Lessons are conducted in my home studio, located in Highland Park, IL.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I majored in piano and instrumental music education at DePaul University and the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana. While studying at De Paul University, I played Timpani for the De Paul University Symphony Orchestra, which regularly performed in Chicago's Orchestra Hall. I received my Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Illinois in 1974 and my Master's degree in Music Education a year later, in 1975. While at the University of Illinois, I studied piano with famed pianist Eugene List, and Piano literature with Soulima Stravinsky (Igor Stravinsky's son). I taught instrumental music (band & orchestra) in the Champaign/Urbana school systems while working on my Master's degree. After receiving my degrees, I ran the music programs for a small town in western Illinois. This included band, orchestra, chorus, general music and private instrument lessons. After teaching in public school systems, I went to work at Karnes Music Company in Des Plaines, Illinois as a guitar and piano instructor. I recently founded the Silbernik Music Academy in Highland Park, IL., and am now using my educational and performance experience to teach students of all levels.
- What types of customers have you worked with?I have successfully worked with beginning and advanced students ranging from 6 years old to adults.
