Giulia is amazing! I struggle with learning languages and she is the best person to be there to help! She has the lessons personalized and knows exactly how to help through each step of learning the language!
Rodrigo Herrera is a wonderful tutor. He comes prepared and creates a plan especially for your child. Also, he is a patient and gentle man. My son really likes him and so do I.
Laura is very proficient with coaching English as a second language. She will teach you the skills to interact with people (e.g.: in your line of business when you are in their country) who speak other languages. The skills include learning to be comfortable with the second language, and not just with the words themselves.
I have been taking Spanish lessons with Cristobal for coming up on a year and French lessons for the past 6 months or so. While I am sure that there are plenty of choices for tutoring this may be the only teacher I have had that I can honestly say has far superior methodology versus all my other professors. I don't say this lightly either, I say this coming from years of experience with other teachers in various settings. Just to give a little background, I studied Spanish for 3 years in high school, then studied in Mexico at a vocational school in a completely immersed environment (living with a host family of non-English speakers) far from the reaches of most gringos in a small city called Cuernavaca. I have worked with native Spanish speakers that speak very little English for 10+ years, studied Spanish in college for 4 semesters, and even studied with Professor William Slavin for two years in weekly private sessions, a local scholar who spoke English, Spanish, French, ,Italian, Portuguese, and Hebrew. While Slavin's approach was very thorough, Cristobal's approach is practical, more natural, and aimed at speaking. Ole! Spanish School isn't just another business in the sea, it's a place with an authentic philosophy and a natural approach to language learning. To make the experience even better, his rates are super reasonable and he has a very easy going personality that creates a relaxed environment. His positive ratings exist for a reason.
Hi! I am Irina V. Nikitina, Associate Professor at the School of Interpreting and Translation of the State Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Extensively working in the field of translation and interpreting, I have engaged Marina Sokolova in many translation projects as a freelance translator and editor in both Russian and English. Marina has excellent qualifications required for the job. With MA in Second Language Studies (USA) and English Language Pedagogy (UK), as well as such well-established certificates as CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teacher for Adults), Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Language Teaching, she makes a truly valuable contribution to a solid team of translators that I closely cooperate with. In every project Marina has been part of or has lead, she has demonstrated a set of qualities that are truly valuable for a professional: authentic and idiomatic language, broad outlooks, inquisitiveness, accuracy, commitment to deadlines, meticulousness, flexibility and responsiveness. Marina has deep knowledge and wide experience in the following areas: business correspondence, general documentation, academic, fiction. Her translations are always proofread and never require double check. I frequently address Marina to get her expert opinion on various linguistic matters both in Russian and English and find her approach to the job of translation and editing truly passionate.
I took lessons with Jeanette for about 3 years, and saw my speaking abilities improve dramatically. When I started I was virtually a complete beginner, and with Jeanette's help I developed to the point of being about to get around France very comfortably and without needing to resort to any English. Jeanette was particularly helpful with fine-tuning my accent, which might be the hardest part of the language to grasp. In addition to her talents as a tutor, Jeanette has a bubbly personality and is genuinely a fun person to be around. She comes up with a lot of entertaining material to go over in lessons, and her passion for teaching really shows through her detailed lesson preparation. In short, I couldn't recommend Jeanette more highly to anyone learning this beautiful language!
Jack is open minded, truly interested in different cultures and provides a lot of language exercises. Our conversation classes were great.
Very helpful and a good teacher! I have been studying at home and lack the practice to start speaking. The first lesson was a perfect mix of topics that I knew and Adan was able to push me in areas where I was weak in understanding. Looking forward to future lessons!
Eric has helped me improve my writing skills throughout undergrad as a French minor and throughout my first year of law school! I feel comfortable going over my drafts with him because I know he will respectfully tell me how I can improve while helping me be as clear and concise as possible. Practicing French with him is both fun and informative. Whether it's singing traditional French songs together or having everyday conversations, his zest for languages has helped me keep my French alive!
Our daughter has been taking piano lessons from Dennis for about 10 years now. She started lessons at the Zion Conservatory and now enjoys lessons from our home. Dennis was very accommodating when we had to relocate to Racine County. Through the instruction provided by Dennis, she has developed a solid foundation of music theory, technical skills and a passion for music. We would recommend Dennis to anyone interested seeking a piano instructor.
In your normal language classes in school, you learn grammar through listening to your teacher talk. You never are given much opportunity to talk. In my classes, you will learn any grammar subject through you speaking and conversation. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, we will have a conversation. Whatever it is you need or want to learn, you will learn it as YOU speak, even if you are a true beginner. I guarantee it. I focus on the common errors of Spanish while using Speaking, Journals, Worksheets, Listening Activities, Videos and Reading activities to couple for success.
Myrna was awesome
I have only had one session with Cristobal so far. However, he seems passionate and very capable of teaching the language. His prices seems very fair and I can't wait to continue!
I had a great experince taking accent reduction lessons with Cindy. She is very clear when teaching the matrials. I am very happy that I learned new ways to sound words that I used to say them wrong.
I offer French and English lessons to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. I've taught high school French for twenty-four years and am good at explaining grammar (in both languages.) I can also help youngsters and adults with reading and writing skills. I can help ESL students here to anticipate what they might hear in various language situations and help them to say and write what they mean.
I highly recommend Strategic Tutoring by Mrs. Mack. Financially I am struggling to make ends me but wanted to help my children succeed in school. Since my good friend also had children that needed extra help, Mrs. combined the kids into 2 small groups which gave them the support the needed and kept the hourly fee down. Instead if paying $45 an hour my girlfriend and I spent $28 an hour which was manageable. Mrs. Mack tutored my 9th grade son and my friend's 10th grade daughter together at the Geneva library. She selected reading, writing, and science topics materials that were intetesting to the kids and also pertinent to what they were studying at school. She took the time to talk to the teachers and even was involved in a conference at the school. The kids were very eager to see Mrs. Mack each week so we actually increased the time to 90 minutes a week and I am happy to say after a few sessions the classroom teachers noticed significant improvement in their reading fluency and comprehension even in biology and modern world social studies and this was reflected in their grades and attitude. My younger son in 3rd grade was tutored with my friend's 2nd grade daughter. Mrs. Mack took time journal writing back and forth with both of them secretly working on writing skills which did help to improve their essay and creative writing skills. Her positive attitude and friendly demeanor created a spark in the kids and after about a month they made significant progress in decoding words more automatically, understanding what was being read, increased rate of math computation, and improved writing structure and creativity. The kids actually understand and know how to apply various strategies that Mrs. Mack taught. She spent time with me explaining these strategies and providing me with a "strategy cheat sheet" so that we all ( teachers, parents, tutor) used a common language when guiding or reminding the kids how to solve a problem with reading, writing, or math. Mrs. Mack went beyond what I ever expected in a tutor and her experience with ESL, Special Education, Behavior Disordered, and Gifted students was apparent wben she took initiative to set up some enrichment activites for my 5th grader on her own time!
We found Ms Pérez through a friend, as our kids wanted to advance their Spanish level. During the first lesson she arrived promptly and was curtious toward the whole family. My children can not stop thanking me for hiring her, as they have improved radically. I also believe that Ms Pérez is originally from Europe and can teach to a high standard of English. Highly recommended.
Julianne was wonderful with my daughter! We look forward to continuing with her singing lessons.

New To Thumbtack
It was in my 6th grade introductory Spanish class, where I developed a great passion for the language. From the start of our very first lesson, my love for Spanish was automatic. Never did I anticipate how much of an impact this passion would have on my future not only as a student but also as an individual. Following my graduation from high school, I studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico, at the Cuauhnahuac Institute of Languages and Cultures for 3 weeks. While in Cuernavaca, I lived with a lovely host family, and therefore had the opportunity to advance my Spanish language skills even when not in the classroom. In college, I traveled to Lima, Peru, to study abroad for a full academic year. In Peru's capital, I was fortunate enough to live with two different host families and study at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where I attended classes with Peruvian students. Although a tutor's academic background is important, I believe that the ability to be an effective listener is invaluable. For this reason, patience is my number one priority as a tutor. I hope to not only assist a student in learning a new language but also to ignite an enthusiasm for the subject, particularly for those whose difficulty with the language has caused anxiety or disinterest. Despite the fact that a tutor has the background knowledge, I will always see myself as a student, as there is always something new to learn! This makes teaching exciting and refreshing, as there is always something about the language to discover or rediscover. Please visit me on Wyzant to view my tutoring profile where you can find my Spanish certification, passed background check, and reasonable pricing.

Learning a new language can be challenging when the content you're learning does not apply to your professional background or interests. My teaching philosphy focuses and considers the students' likes, hobbies and everyday life to make sure the lesson ties in with their lives; thus, allowing for knowledge retention and student motivation to learn a new language. I also utilize a Total Physical Approach of teaching, where technology, art, music and visuals are used for a more relaxed way of learning. In short, the students' life is what makes up most of the lesson content, for better engagement in the lesson.
