I love ChiTown Trainer! I've been meeting my trainer, MaryKay, for almost three months now and I cannot recommend her and the rest of the team at ChiTown ENOUGH! Konrad and Monika are amazing, too! They run an organized, professional and friendly business that really caters to the specific needs of each client. I can say nothing but positive things about their customized, hands-on training! I feel better, look better, and have adapted my lifestyle in a healthy way that will last long-term. Do yourself a favor and start working out with them TODAY!

Andrew is great at what he does. He takes his time to listen and carefully think about an exercise routine to meet the specific needs of each client. He is easy going and witty. He is intentional about building a rapport with his clients. His personable approach makes your workout time fly by...but boy will you feel the effects of your workout. We feel fortunate to have Andrew in our corner. He is committed to our weight loss goal, but is equally concerned about our eating and building a well rounded healthy lifestyle. You will not be at all disappointed.

Laura is a natural relationship and life coach: intuitive, insightful, supportive, positive, human. She asks us pertinent questions that we don't see for ourselves. My partner and I have been doing coaching with Laura with a focus on how we communicate with one another, trust, staying in the present, keeping an eye on our pasts so we do not unconsciously let the past have too much influence on how we do our present. I recommend her interventions without hesitation.

Elijah is a fantastic trainer. He is invested in the most minute details of your workout, ensuring that you get pushed to the limit! I leave his workouts both exhausted and extremely satisfied! His interest extends out of the workout to other parts of a healthy lifestyle as well such as nutrition. I know I can turn to him with all questions about how to improve my overall fitness. Thanks for everything Elijah!

Loren Michaels Harris auditioned and won a spot in our cast to read "LOST OR FOUND" in the 2016 Listen to Your Mother: Southwest Michigan show which I produce and co-direct locally. He. Was. Fabulous! Wonderful to work with. Very open to suggested edits and coaching. He is so clear on his message that he speaks off-the-cuff as smoothly and confidently as he reads a prepared piece. He was cool under pressure and absolutely delivered. A consummate professional. I would work with him anytime!

"LIFE CHANGING!" That is what I call my experience as a client of Ashleigh Tepler. Truthfully I do not recognize myself. I am an entirely new person, particularly around and about food. My current thought process, choices, and feelings have changed since Ashleigh began coaching me. I call her my "Life" coach because the changes she has taught me to make with food, movement and thought have been life changing! As a coach, Ashleigh came to me at a time when I was both willing and ready, but NOT able to take the necessary actions that would introduce a consistent healthy lifestyle into my daily living. On my own I could only manage short periods of time (2 weeks at most) when i would both eat healthy and exercise, but together she as managed to encourage, teach, and inspire me to change every day for the past 3 months. As a coach she is knowledgeable, kind, patient, and truly amazing! There are a few things in life I can not be sure of, but positive results from hard work is not one of them - Ashleigh is a hard worker and she will make you one too. I am so grateful I asked her for help and I enthusiastically recommend you to use her services!! The New & Happy Joanne

Once in a while you meet someone who is able to inspire you the way Alex does! I started training with Alex having no experience with fitness/working out...my first day, I joked saying "I want to lose 50 pounds" I didn't believe it would ever happen (I've always been the chubby girl) Alex taught me all about what I could do, taught me the things I need to be eating, and what limits I could push myself to! In 9 months I lost 50 pounds! He was my coach, my therapist, my champion when I was down! In many ways my best friend! He pushed me, never let me give up! To this day I know I can call him anytime and he will be there for me! He has seen me through my toughest times! So yes sometimes you meet someone who is a game changer, that's Alex!

Anthony Vertino is an excellent, insightful, professional therapist. He has recently evolved his practice into a new, exciting level of therapy/coaching. He'll take a serious, committed patient and through a different approach which emphasizes outcomes as opposed to traditional treatments which can take long, long months to possibly work, Vertino uses this positive, results-oriented formula to help your relationships blossom as well as every aspect of one's life conquer indifference and mediocrity. Highly recommend him and trust him. : )

I met Ro through a mutual friend a few years ago. I have been a triathlete for about five years but, the past two years I have given up running and focused more on cycling and swimming. Between teaching a spin class, swimming 3 miles a week, and biking 80 plus miles a week I noticed I just wasn’t recovering fast enough from all the exercise. I sat down with Ro for a one on one consultation. Ro dissected my entire nutrition habits. She took in account for everything I ate from the time I woke up until the time I went to bed, Monday through Sunday. After her analysis of the results she noticed my carb intake was much higher than my protein intake . She introduced me to some foods I never thought I would ever eat like quinoa and tofu. She took my food list and substituted these items for some of the carbs I could take out of my diet. Thanks to Ro I feel my recovery time has been shortened and I can expedite my recovery time. Ro checks in with me on a monthly basis to make sure I’m still on pace. If it wasn’t for this help from Ro I would still be scratching my head searching the Internet for what I’m doing wrong. I owe her a big thanks. Dan T

I had always been a fit person who ran, biked, lifted weights and in general stayed healthy and active. After the birth of my 3rd child I found myself with less time than ever running a family and my own small business and the baby weight was just not coming off in the minimal time I had to devote to my fitness in the chaos of life. I hired Jeanne Penton to help me get 3 hours of workout out of an hour of time and found out how much I did not know about training. Jeanne was supportive, encouraging, compassionate, and firm when I needed it. Her coaching led me to achieve my goals and continue to learn even more to help me live the most balanced and centered life possible, in spite of the chaos of life. I truly do not know where I would be had she not come into my life at just the right time. She has helped me to stay present, mindful, and appreciative even when things are not right… which is always, let’s get real. 8 years later I still consider her a leader among the few people who have had the most positive influence in my life. Jeanne has a way of reaching individuals and tailoring solutions for real life. Her intuitive understanding of people and great knowledge of Wellness principles can benefit anyone in any age or stage of life. I have taken her classes, benefited from hearing her speak, and grown from the wisdom she has shared in a variety of areas. She is so much more than a trainer, she is a true Life Coach in every sense of the word. I could not recommend her more highly. Thank you Jeanne, for being who you are and sharing your skills and compassion with me.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
