After dealing with other sewer contractors fumbling around in the dark, when Tim Roberts came to our rescue we were quite impressed by is knowledge, his skill, his professionalism & above all his integrity. He had the right answers to resolve the situation. We are now waiting for his estimate regardless we would hire him in a heartbeat our search has ended! I found ISA to be one of those rare businesses where you actually receive what you pay for. Their jobs were to tile two bath rooms and a family room, hang 10 interior doors, install extensive back splash and replace two bathroom vanities. One rare quality we found with ISA is their punctuality. A customer will find appointments kept and punctuality maintained ... a trait definitely not belonging to a good number of contractors today. We found Salvo and Kemmel (spelling) personal and friendly to be with during the arduous turmoil of home remodeling. Perhaps the best accolade a customer can provide to any business is "yes, I would hire them again"!

These guys are amazing, they are definitely going to be my go to plumbers for anything else I need done at my house! Not only did they get my sewer and drains rodded out as discussed but they helped fix a few other plumbing issues they really didn’t have to if they just wanted to get their job done and go home but instead they went the extra mile. Love working with people like this!

All work was completed on time and on budget. Very high quality work. Had absolutely no objection when I added on a few additional smaller projects as well. Had him repaint my kitchen, master bath, guest bath, guest bedroom and first floor power room. All work looks simply amazing! Would definitely hire him again in the future! Sourced through Thumbtack. For being my first experience using Thumbtack, I was definitely satisfied with its role in linking homeowners with contractors.

Tim & his apprentice came & installed two new faucets for me. They did a great job at a fair price, and he was also a pleasure to talk to.. a real nice guy, recommended for any plumbing job. He also has several other subcontractors that can do any job as well. I will definitely call back for a few other larger jobs.

Gino did an excellent job, he was professional and friendly and made sure I was satisfied with the results. I was impressed enough to schedule a follow-up job next week to do a preventative main sewer rodding.

Bradley was able to pinpoint location of a leak in a vent that was causing sewer odors in an apartment that 3 other plumbers weren't able to find. He was also able to fix the leak with some creative work to keep damage to the floor at a minimum. Very reasonable price too. Bradley's definitely my new plumber.

After I saw his work I had him replaced a sewer drain that needed a new seal and a clean out pipe. I will definitely use him again and recommend him. He is very professional and his prices are reasonable.

Mickey had done prior work a Sewer Repair in our home in Plainfield, We knew who to call this time to have our Leaking Outside hose faucets replaced! While doing this work, he noticed that the Main Water Valve was leaking and that the second shutoff valve (the one after the meter) did not work. Replacing the main water valve required coordination with the city to shut off the water from the street. Normally the city employee shuts the valve off and leaves and you have to call back to get the water turned on again. Mickey did the replacement of the valve so quickly that the city employee never left. Although the plan was to replace only the main valve before the meter, we ended up replacing also the valve after the meter since it also had a small leak. Mickey gave a fair price and did an outstanding job.

Excellent Service!! I was very satisfied with the work they performed. I had issue with my kids toilet not flushing. I had called 2 guys (handyman) before and wasted my money. Finally, I called the Do Right Rooter and they fixed the issue in first time at very reasonable price. I would highly recommend the Do Right Rooter Plumbing & Sewer Experts. Do not waste your money calling non experienced handyman.. call only Do Right Rooter plumbing & Sewer Experts. Thanks Shuja Munaver

All Pro came out to give me a free quote for two unrelated plumbing problems - one small job (broken pipe connector on my sump pump) and one large (sink hole in my back yard caused by leaking underground sewer pipe). They gave me a price quote so much better than what I expected from reading online reveiws for jobs that required digging. I hired them on the spot. Mike and Fabian were polite, thorough, and quick. They answered all of my questions, and explained everything thoroughly. I would definately reccomend them to anyone.

I hired Mark to complete the majority of a bathroom remodel. I hired his team to install drywall, mud and tape the drywall. I also had him tile the shower and the floor. Mark also did the shower plumbing, installed a new tub, fixed a bad tub drain, hung two doors, installed casing and framed a window. Mark's price was reasonable. He was not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. But his communication led me to hiring him. The job was expected to take 5 days, however he ended up finishing on a Saturday. He is honest, very giving with advice and does good work. He is a jack of all trades and if I ever need a hand, I now have contractor I can trust. I recommend him to my friends if they need some work done.

Willie is exactly why you want in a contractor. On time, nice, friendly, professional, and his rates are very affordable. He responded and never went dark. He took pictures and texted updates on the project. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I will use him for all my electrical needs, and have already referred him to a friend.

Mr. Joel Christopher responded promptly to my request. He gave me a very good quote on the job. He came to my residence and completed the job in one day. He had to take out three doors and put in new ones. He was very professional during the project. Mr. Christopher also noticed a couple of minor repairs at my residence and completed them without charge. I highly recommend this contractor and I plan on utilizing his services in the near future. He is in the process of giving me a quote on another project. I had a great experience with Joel- he pleased my wife which is not an easy task.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.
