They came out and did a beautiful job cleaning my furniture, which had never been cleaned. My husband and I used to smoke and the furniture was smoke stained but he got enough of that out that the furniture looked close to when I bought it. The only complaint was all he cleaned was the top of the furniture. For instance the arms of my sofa and love seat are round and pleated and since he only cleaned the top it's really noticeable. Had he been more thorough I'd have said they did a stellar job.

This was Ashley's first time cleaning my house and we were beyond pleased. She really paid attention to detail and did an excellent job getting all of the dog hair picked up. We will be using her again in the future for regular and detail cleans.

My bid was for a move out/deep cleaning of our house prior to an open house. I did a lot of surface cleaning several days prior for listing photos, but I wanted the house deep cleaned before the open house (it was just staged, so fairly empty). Most floors, bathrooms and cabinets/appliances looked good, but under furniture wasn't cleaned. Also, the unfinished part of our basement wasn't cleaned (I had swept, but made the mistake of assuming a move out/deep clean would include this since my bid included the square footage for it..she didn't think this part of the house needed to be cleaned, which I learned in communication after the fact when I contacted about things that were overlooked). A quick look around and light fixtures and hinges were also still dusty and blinds were "wiped down" but not thoroughly cleaned. She said everything was vacuumed (and I vacuumed several days prior), but one of the two rugs was still dirty. Now I'm going to have to take off work to clean what I paid to have cleaned. Very frustrated, and I communicated this but just got a 'sorry for the misunderstanding.' She did a good job on what was done, but the scope of work that was requested was not completed.

Shortly after I posted my relocating needs, the request was addressed and scheduled. Rick worked around my schedule and set up multiple appointments at different locations to get furniture and other items moved promptly. Upon arrival, Tomieka and Tony were extremely professional and efficient. I was very impressed with the service and would highly recommend them to friends and family in the future. Thank you very much!

Crystal and her business partner, Dominique, did a thorough deep cleaning of my cabinets, oven, refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, bathroom and shower before I moved out of my apartment. It was well-priced and well done. It definitely saved me a lot of money that would otherwise come out of my security deposit.

This was by far the best cleaning service I have ever used. I have a 2 bedroom apt that my husband and I let get out of hand in terms of cleaning and since both of us are really busy, I went onto thumbtack to find a cleaning service to come the same day for a deep clean. I got about 12 quotes, but this was the only reasonable one that made time to come that day. She brought her own cleaning supplies and immediately got to work on cleaning my apt. She went above and beyond, washing all of my dishes, cleaning the inside and outside of the stove, and even the ceiling fans! She was friendly and my husband and I were both extremely satisfied with the deep cleaning job. In fact- I have not seen him so happy since our wedding day! I highly recommend this company!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

Who cleans couches?

Even if your furniture doesn’t appear dirty or stained, your couches are collecting just as much dust, pollen, germs, pet hair and dander, and even food crumbs as your carpets. In general, the same professionals who clean your carpets and drapes can also clean your couches. Carpet cleaners usually offer upholstery cleaning services as well, and may offer a discount if you have your carpets cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of professional upholstery cleaners in your area who specialize in cleaning different types of upholstery fabrics, including delicate antique fabrics and other hard-to-clean materials such as suede. In addition to deep-cleaning the entire piece of furniture, sofa cleaners can spot-treat food, pet, and oil and grease stains. Most professionals also offer services to sanitize and deodorize your furniture and apply protectants to prevent future stains. As with carpets, experts recommend that you have your upholstered furniture cleaned once every year or two, depending on how much use it gets and whether you have children and pets.

How much does upholstery cleaning cost?

The cost to have your upholstered furniture cleaned depends mostly on two factors: the size of the furniture and the type of fabric. The national average cost of upholstery cleaning ranges from $120 to $150. Most people have multiple pieces cleaned at once, but sofa cleaners will come to your home for just one heavily soiled couch or to spot-treat stains. The smaller the furniture, the lower the cost: A lounge chair may cost an average of $50 to clean, while a couch costs an average of $135 and an L-shaped sectional costs an average of $190. Delicate materials such as antique fabrics or suede upholstery are more expensive to clean than sturdier ones. Having the sofa cleaner do repairs will also add to the cost. Repairs such as mending a tear in fabric or patching a hole in leather may be charged by the task or by the hour; in general, repairs cost an average of $15 each. Special or delicate fabrics may cost additional fees, too.
