Brian is very responsive to messaging and phone calls. Brian is polite and cleans up his work space and wants to make his customers happy by doing top notch work. He visited ahead of the actual work date to look at the space where the work needed to be completed. He coil wrapped our French patio door frame and did a wonderful job. He will be returning to install a window and custom trim.

Kevin replaced our old basement windows and door with new ones. The basement door was a custom size. Two previous handymen we had estimates from were unable to figure out the door for us. Kevin completed the job in the time frame he quoted and had no problem customizing our new door. He kept a neat work space, was polite and respectful, and the windows and door look perfect. We would recommend him to a friend and will call him for our next remodel job.

I had a remodeling project to completely refinish my kitchen, 2 bathrooms and basement. B&C Contracting was 1 of 5 quotes that I received. They were extremely professional being that they didn't just simply give me a random estimate but they came and looked at everything I was interested in remodeling. Overall, they responded with an estimate the same day and I decided to hire them. They were able to take out what was there prior, take out a few walls, add new lighting areas in my ceiling, put in cabinets, countertops and appliances, put up drywall, re pour concrete, put in my flooring, paint and do general carpentry. They also installed a few new windows and doors. The job was finished in a couple weeks and the update looks perfect. We will eventually add an additional garage and rehire B&C Contracting Specialist to do this project as well.

Eric and his team did a fantastic job on my building! I had a vision and they made it happen. I asked for a wall to be built, a window to be put in, bathroom floors to be replaced, and new paint in my common area. They were very professional while in my building during business hours. They cleaned up their work area every day, and they finished ahead of schedule. Eric was very detailed in his quoting process and made sure to go over any changes with me as they were needed. I would highly recommend Advanced Interior Construction, LLC to anyone that has future project needs. I plan to keep Eric's number for any future projects I might need at my office or for personal use at home!!

The original work entailed matching 100 year old wood exterior trim around a door and window. The work was beautiful and a perfect match. I was so impressed with the quality, price and Mark's professionalism, I added concrete and electrical work. The concrete pad in the basement was to level a bathroom and took a disaster done by a previous plumber and fixed it up wonderfully. The electrical troubleshooting fixed a long standing problem worked on by 3 separate electricians and our exterior lights work for the first time in 5 years. Mark is a wonderful person, he noticed a problem door that wouldn't close properly and he just took 5 minutes to fix it for free! I have told all of the people I know about him and the quality of his work (which is something I never do but Mark is so unusual as a person) He is always on time, does a high quality and is reasonable. I will definetly hire him in the future for any work I need and encourage you to give him an opportunity - you'll not be disappointed.

We had old wood windows that needed to be replaced. The windows leaked and were hard to operate. We had Maris come out to give us a free estimate. We were impressed with their professional attitude and strong knowledge of the industry. We could not be happier. They came out and installed all the windows in one day. The workmanship was awesome and they made sure to clean up everything. I would highly recommend this company.

I came in contact with Bruce about 7 years ago. His first project was to remove a deck and add a family room. The work was done in a very professional and neat way. The price quoted was right on target. He worked with me and made sure I was happy with the project when completed. Since then he has upgraded my kitchen, laid flooring through out my home, replaced my windows and installed planation shutters. The project that has thrilled me the most was removing my tub, replacing it with a walk in shower and totally remodeling the bathroom. I cannot say enough about Bruce and his work. I would recommend him any time, with no reservations. He is trustworthy, knows what he is doing, does it in a neat and timely fashion with an affordable price and works with you so you are never inconvenienced. It is a pleasure to recommend Bruce, he is a man of character, manners, and knowledge. In addition to all the above Bruce is a true gentlemen and they are hard to find these days.

I wanted to share my experience about Joe of all Trades. I had some hail damage to my house in St Charles during the past storms and needed my siding replaced. I had a few estimates done and wasn't really pleased with the companies offering to help. I was referred to Joe by a friend that had already used his services and was pleased. He came out and was completely down to earth and friendly. He gave a fair estimate and I just enjoyed talking with him. It only took a couple of days to tear off the siding and replace everything new. He did a great job around the windows and you can't even see the lines on the house. I love the new color of my house and the new look. I would and have already referred him to another friend of mine that needs hail damage repairs on her home. I don't really have anything to say that he could improve on, he did a great job. Thanks again Joe.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
