I liked that Bob from Premier HVAC was easy to talk to and answered all my questions. Bob saved me from being ripped off from another HVAC company. (I saved almost $500 for the same service I received from Premier HVAC.) Premier HVAC Cooling & Heating will be the first number I will call for my HVAC needs. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who would need their services.

On December 20 my furnace stopped blowing heat on one of the coldest days of this year. I used thumbtack in the past with good results so a few companies inboxed within a few hours and I decided to go with Comfort Aire. Ronier contacted me same day and said he was in the area and could come by that evening to check it. At first glance thought it was a simple fix but ended up needing a new furnace. I knew I only had a year tops with the old unit so the very next day I received a new furnace for a reasonable price. Ron is very professional, honest, and trustworthy and I will definitely use this company for any future heating and cooling issues.

Definitely deserves 5 stars! The kind of professional/customer service I didn't think existed anymore...I hired TDH due to a smell coming from my furnace whenever our system changed from a/c to heating. A technician came to my home for a free estimate the same day I made the request. Of course once a technician came, the smell no longer was there. He still took apart my furnace, noticed everything was clean, didn't try to up-sell me on services I didn't need - and even made suggestions on what could be causing the smell and ways to prevent it in the future...ALL FREE OF CHARGE! Great team and service, really understands the idea of customer service - the least I can do is recommend them to others! My wife and I will definitely use TDH for all relevant future services.

The repair Technician, Miguel Vargas, responded to my call for water heater repair on a Sunday and was able to get the water heater functioning in the interim period while the part that needed to be replaced was on order. They turned this around in 24 hours and my water heater was fully repaired. Miguel was friendly and explained the issue fully to me. The pricing was fair and the work was done expeditiously. I would highly recommend him and All-4Climates, for Heating, Cooling and Water Heater issues.

EXCELLENT company!!!! John Polermi is the person I worked with and he and his team did a great job. This company installed a new home heating system for me and a new air conditioning part. They were reliable, professional, fairly priced and left the work area spotless after a major installation. I give this company my highest recommendation.

When I bought my A/C & furnace I shopped around, so I have seen a lot of what is out there in this area. I choose TLS Heating and Cooling for a reason. Tim was knowledgeable and explained the details in a way that I could understand. He gave some great options for price and followed through with details that came up later. He cares.

Thomas Martinez is very professional, knowledgeable, punctual and a very nice person to do business with. He responded to my inquiry in less than 10 minutes, confirmed that he could do what I requested and had the part (an igniter) on his truck. The price was about $100.00 less than what a well known competitor company wanted. He came out the next day at the time agreed on and completed installation in about half an hour. He explained in detail what he was doing and actually showed me the replacement igniter and the old one. I am very pleased with T.M. Heating & Cooling with the work he did and will call him again with any issues pertaining to my furnace. I will recommend him to others requiring his expertise. By the way, prior contacting T.M., I left voice messages with two other ‘reputable’ heating & cooling companies. Neither has yet to return my calls. Thanks a million Thomas!

Reagan did an awesome job! I had called several plumbing places and they told me the job would be a 2 hour minimum. Reagan was done within 35 minutes! He also removed the old toilet and put it in the trash and cleaned up when he was done! We will definitely use him again and highly recommend you use him too!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

  • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
  • The temperature cannot be regulated.
  • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
  • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
  • The thermostat isn’t working.
  • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
