I needed a handful of last minute projects (dryer hose installation, mirror mountings, bookshelf / shelving installation) completed in my home. I was able to book Fixer the same day, within a couple of hours. They were able to run and purchase the items I needed to complete the tasks as well! The contractor, Ian, was very thorough, knowledgeable, professional, and fast! I couldn't be happier and will definitely contact them for future jobs around my home. (Bonus: They are fully insured and can provide a certificate of insurance if your building residence is as strict as mine and requires all contractors to provide one).

Keith was great, he and his colleague set up some timers for our outdoor lights and fished out a power wire that had fallen back into the wall. He even made a separate trip to help me with the timer programing! Prompt, knowledgable, and thorough. I definitely recommend using Enigma.

I found ISA to be one of those rare businesses where you actually receive what you pay for. Their jobs were to tile two bath rooms and a family room, hang 10 interior doors, install extensive back splash and replace two bathroom vanities. One rare quality we found with ISA is their punctuality. A customer will find appointments kept and punctuality maintained ... a trait definitely not belonging to a good number of contractors today. We found Salvo and Kemmel (spelling) personal and friendly to be with during the arduous turmoil of home remodeling. Perhaps the best accolade a customer can provide to any business is "yes, I would hire them again"!

Chano and his team installed new laminate floors throughout our home, painted all our trim and installed new doors. He even fixed an odd door frame in our master bath, which icluded building out the wall a bit and installing new frame. It was all quite a process and took us out of the home for a good two weeks or so, but in all fairness, it was a big job. The workmanship and attention to detail was top notch, and if there was ever anything I didn't quite like or wanted fixed, there were no questions or pushback. Chano and his team really want their customers to be satisfied with the end results, and we are very much!! We even ended up having to rebuild the stairs because carpeting had really damaged the wood, and although it cost us a bit more, the results were great! He really worked with us on many levels, including price and he always offered fair opinions on construction and where to spend money or where we could save. A lot of contractors run pretty shady and you never know who you can trust, so I'm very happy we found A Plus Decorating, because we never had to worry. I highly recommend Chano and his team and will definitely use them in the future!

Tim & his apprentice came & installed two new faucets for me. They did a great job at a fair price, and he was also a pleasure to talk to.. a real nice guy, recommended for any plumbing job. He also has several other subcontractors that can do any job as well. I will definitely call back for a few other larger jobs.

Michael repaired what was my attempt to mount a TV on a thin plaster wall. He patched all the holes on the side of the wall that I tried to mount the tv on. He repaired the damage I caused to the other side of the wall and came up with a solution so my TV could still be mounted and he even mounted it! Extremely knowledgable in plaster, great attention to detail, cleans up after himself and has a friendly yet professional disposition. I would recommend him to anyone looking for plaster work no matter how big or small the job.

I had such a awesome experience working with Optimum Carpentry and I want to share it with the rest of the community. If you are looking through other "quotes", stop looking right now because HERE is your guy! Before coming to my place he was always very communicative with me during the whole process in order to be ready to do his work at my place. He is a REAL professional and such a nice guy to work with. He put attention in every little detail making sure that the work was done perfectly and I was happy with the result. About putting my TV on the wall he offered different mounts so I could decide what I wanted at not additional cost (just retail price for the piece) and he did the same about hiding an extension cable I wanted for my work desk. My shelf was leaning forward and didn't look good at all and he did an awesome job put it correctly against the wall. Even at the end of his work I forgot to put another draw on the wall and he went back to his car, bring the tools again and did the work. I had just an incredible experience and I'm looking forward to hire him for more work in the future. I can not recommend you Optimum Carpentry enough...100% PERFECT option for you too.

If we could give six stars we would! Karol showed up on time every day, his work was great, when he faced an unexpected problem he dealt with it in a professional manner. His workers were also very professional, polite and efficient. We have worked with many contractors over the past four years and Karol was far and away the best. We have recommended him to friends, that is the highest compliment.

Will and Victory 1 were amazing! We are first time homeowners and the walls and ceiling are in rough shape. I was able to get him out for an estimate quickly and he was also able to start with less than a weeks notice. He was super polite, personable, informative and helpful. He was also very respectful of my budget and unlike others didn’t try to guilt me for him to to the whole place. He gave me estimates for a variety of projects and let me choose what was best for us. He even walked through and gave me tips and suggestions on the areas I’d be doing myself. He responded to my silly questions for advice on primer etc via text as well. He and his team were really quick and efficient and did a fantastic job. They went above and beyond and when I got there, in addition to the ceilings, he had spackled entire home (both floors), we had only hired him to do the ceilings and repair one damaged wall! He also stepped in to help with the wall and trim over the stairway when we realized we’d have some issues getting to it ourselves. I highly recommend Will and Victory 1 and will definitely call them again for any future projects. Thank you!

Tramail was very responsive, from our first message on thumbtack to the completed job, he stayed in contact throughout the whole process. He guided me on paint finish, bought all the materials, even patched some mighty holes in the dry wall. The end result turned out well and I feel his price was very fair.

I needed to take down the wall paper in my kitchen and then paint the wall. Joe came as scheduled and worked the long hours with the best attitude. I love my new kitchen paint and everyone who has seen it gives a compliment. Joe was a pleasure to work with. I have contracted him for my next job and also referred him to a friend. Highly recommended for a great job, excellent customer service and reasonable prices too.

Kris helped with repairs and upgrades for everything from dry wall, painting, hardware, installation and more. His work showed exceptional craftsmanship. He was able to make some challenging repairs to correct problems from a prior contractor. After that difficult experience with the other contractor, it was a big relief to have someone so skilled and reliable. He was clear about timing and punctual which was very much appreciated. Besides that, he was just a nice person who seemed to care very much about the quality of his work. I have asked Kris to do additional projects for my home and would highly recommend him.

Nov. 21, 2017 Met with B. Zmuda to review the work and got an estimate. Agreed on terms and the job commenced and completed the next day. Excellent repair of wall, trim and ceiling damaged by a roof leak in 2016. Satisfied in all areas. Value is relative - their portfolio photos of previous restoration aided our decision. Would recommend and use their service again if needed. Will post before and after photos later. P. Smith

Paris and Albert were a great pair to work with. Paris had excellent communication from beginning to end, he explained everything they would do and would need to purchase for the job. They were also accommodating when I asked for additional help with picking up and hanging artwork. I researched a lot of contractors and handyman and they were by far the most reasonably priced. Would highly recommend it to others.

Very professional work, applied drywall to a complicated situation involving an exposed wall with external piping. Per my request he created openings for certain access pipes but did this in an artful manner. Otis is a cheerful professional who completed the work promptly in a short period of time and left my condo without any debris or signs he was there, just a perfect wall. Very reasonable price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
