Very pleased with Sam's work. He came on time both days, quickly assessed the problem, did the work he promised for an extremely fair price, cleaned up very nicely, and was very professional throughout the process. I would definitely recommend him for appliance repair, and I will definitely use him again.

Paul was very knowledgeable in appliance repair, specifically for washing machine issues. He gave us options and quotes so that we can decide whether to fix or purchase new. Although we ultimately decided to purchase than do major repairs, for a fair price, at least we found that it wasn't a easy, simple repair. Will use him again.

Service was great! Punctual (actually arrived a bit early, which was awesome) and got the job done fast. Needed repair on a fridge that stopped dispensing water in a rental we own. He had the part, so called me to give the price and get permission to go ahead, then finished the job same day. Will definitely use again!

In the haystack of sneeky repairmen, Armin is an honest needle. The fridge repair didn't need any replacement parts and was completed in under an hour. Highly Recommended!

David was very prompt with reply's before I hired him for my dishwasher repair. Once he came out he was very detailed in what he was doing an explained what should and should not happen. He also was nice enough to ask for towels or clothes in order to keep water from spilling on the floor. I also had a hood range that I needed installed. David was nice enough to wire the unit as well as drill holes in cabinet so that I could install the hood. Thanks for all the help David!

I contacted Tony in the morning and fortunately he was able to come over the same afternoon and fix my clothes dryer. He communicates very well. He diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes and even had the repair part on his truck. I was very pleased and would easily recommend.

Roosevelt got my job in at the end of what I’m sure was a long work day which was helpful, as my job could have caused damage to my ceiling if left to wait longer. Him and his wife were in and out quickly to reseat my toilet and problem solved the error of the last plumber. He said he would follow up in a couple days to make sure the seal was holding. I appreciate that he will follow up on his work. He also warrantied the work for a year. Although very nice, I hope I don’t see him again until I hire him for another job. Thanks for the good work sir!

Not just John was able to diagnose the issue quick , he was very honest in giving his recommendation. He informed in about the cost to repair vs what it would take if i were to purchased a new item. He even waived off the labor charges. I recommend John.

I had other servicemen come to give estimates to repair my oven, the estimates were outrageous. I called LaCosta, he arrived the same day to repair my oven. He repaired the oven at a reasonable price. Very cordial and professional all at the same time.

Richard was responsive, polite and incredibly informative. He gave me options and never made me feel like he was duping me. In fact, he recommended me replacing my dishwasher rather than repair which would have been more money for him. I will most certainly call him again should I ever need it - highly recommend!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
