I would recommend Brian to everyone. He has very reasonable rates, came right on time when he said he would, called first as I had asked him to, and did a great job with everything I needed done. And he did everything quick and safely. No damage to walls or furniture which is especially important to me since I rent. Very nice guy too. Thanks Brian!

Our experience with Jeff and Dun-Rite was fantastic! Jeff is truly an experienced professional, who is knowledgeable, dependable and delivers great quality in his work. We had several projects that required woodwork, electrical, exterior siding repairs and painting, and installation of a storm door. Jeff and his associate, Jason, performed all of the work steadfast, with high quality and for very fair prices. They clean up nicely, too. Above all, he is honest and trustworthy. You never know who you will get when it comes to handy people and Jeff was a true gem. We will contact him for all of our future needs...and I highly recommend you do, too!

Can't thank Tom and his crew enough. They did the work that was expected in 2 days, laying tile down on the floor and the wall. It looks great. He also helped with some tuck point that needed to be done. I plan to call him next year for painting my outside trim. He does just about everything. I highly recommend. Great job!

I couldn't be happier with the service I received this evening!! Colleen fit me in same day as job was requested! She was professional, and the job was great!! She mowed pretty high length of grass as well as got rid of all our weeds on the side and back of the house! She even bagged up all the grass and weeds and took them with her!! That was actually unexpected!! She had knowledge of plants that I wasn't aware of, so that was really nice! They will be removing larger plant stumps next time! Literally a one stop shop! Nice to know her and her husband also paint and do pressure washing. I feel lucky to have met her today, for future jobs!! The price was competitive!! She is now scheduled to come back every two weeks!! I look forward to having her and or her husband mow our lawn for Longevity!

Totally amazing work at a very reasonable price! Not only was our house uncluttered (& there were mountains of clothes, papers, electronics etc.-30years worth) but it was cleaned too! Huge bonus: Karen also is a brilliant interior decorator. Living room & loft are House Beautiful now! And, magically, loving nic nacs appeared here and there :) Karen did all of this within the1 week timeframe we had. Karen works hard, smart & continuously. She is simply awesome & we refer to her as Wonder Woman - really. Thank you, Karen!

Great service. Andrew was just awesome, came on time and finished the painting job in a neat and clean manner, I couldn't believe my eyes after I saw my rooms. They were in a horrible shape as previous owners didn't do justice to the house which had so much potential to be a great looking house. Ace guys just changed it in two days. Highly recommend.

Rudy was incredible! He provided a competitive estimate, but did not sacrifice quality the least bit! I actually had identical estimate from another party, but felt instinctively Rudy was a better choice. He started working the next day after the estimate. He patched many more holes than what I had pointed out. He re-did areas where 2 previous painting jobs had missed. He even help install door stops to prevent door knobs from hitting the walls in future! He worked the entire weekend in order to finish everything before his other projects start. The drywall patch job in the bathroom ceiling looks seamless! He would be my painting pro of choice in future. And I did already discussed another painting project with him.

I hired E Reiner Construction first for a complete gutting and remodel to our rec room in the basement. They did a quick destruction and removal of all of the old panels and drywall. The job was affordable and exactly as contracted. Our new family room looks awesome! Not only do they do big jobs like the remodel, but I hired them again to replace a broken shower head in the master bathroom, paint my child's bedroom and bathroom and build a huge sandbox in the back yard. Before painting the rooms, Jake repaired the drywall damage from dings and small holes from everyday kid life. Looks great! The kids are loving the big sandbox!

I am happy we found Lou on Thumbtack for this exterior painting job. He responded fast and explained the painting options based on his experience so that I could make the proper choices. He was able to complete the job quickly working within but of our tight schedules. He sent me pictures of the work while I was traveling to make sure all was in order. Good to have a reliable local resource that I can trust to get the job done right and within budget.

Mark was nothing but professional throughout the whole process. Right from the beginning he said he wanted to look at the project before giving me a recommendation of what the job should entail. The quality of work was outstanding and left my deck looking practically brand new and ready to be stained. I would definitely use Mark for another project.

The JG Team is so professional, hard-working and excellent at what they do. The estimate I received was a little higher than I had gotten from other but It was because they took the time to not cut corners and did the job right so it would last. I had concrete poured, house painted and maintenance completed on my property and everything was done with exceptional detail. I couldn't ask for a better team. The guys all wore the same color shirt, treated each other with such respect and had the best attitudes even when working in the blazing sun. I wish there were more companies around like this that cared so much about giving you their best! Thank you JG Properties.

Isaac was very personable and did a fantastic job repainting my new home from nuetral colors and helped to advise me on what color combinations would look best together. I went in afraid of bolder colors but I absolutely love the end results. I will be calling him again for future projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
