In my business how we display our products and serve our clients is the only thing that matters. Creating a right website that is able to reflect your true image is a huge challenge. Not many companies or individuals are ready to take this risk once, but in our case, CyberOptik took this challenge twice and both times delivered spectacular results. It was a great pleasure to work with Ron Johnson and the entire CyberOptik team. All designers and engineers were extremely knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and were able to help us refine our ideas to perfectly showcase our handcrafted hardwood floors. The effort extended in developing of our website to meet our unique needs and wishes and within our budget and project timeline was tremendous. I highly recommend CyberOptik to anyone looking for that unique personalized touch.

We have a rather tight deadline for the video to present to some investors and he's been on top of it from the outset. I started my Wedding Coordinating business in 2013 and had a very DIY website that I haphazardly threw together. Fortunately I managed to find clients despite that trainwreck but never really felt proud of how it looked. Fast forward to spring of 2017 when I was determined to update and overhaul the whole look and feel of my website. I sent out some feelers to local businesses and got immediate feedback from Adam Khan who not only had already looked at my website but made some suggestions right off the bat and had some tips based on other similar company’s websites. He made it easy for me by providing links to browse through and saved me time with his own ideas. He was extremely proactive with providing options and thankfully very patient and flexible with scheduling our meetings. I had a newborn at the time and was a bit fried. Adam helped me so much by just knowing what he was doing and listening to the ideas I had. I gave him bits and pieces to work with and he brought it all to life for me. I love the website he created for me and show it off whenever I can. I absolutely recommend Adam for any design needs. A quote I have on my own website is, “Give yourself the gift of time,” and I feel that’s exactly what I did when I hired Adam, because he made this whole process so easy for me.

When it was time to work on the marketing materials for my feature film, 'Critical Nexus,' I was happy Greg was available. His design aesthetic is what drew me to him, but it's his ability to balance practicality with artistic desirability that keeps the relationship thriving. With another campaign in full swing for the Haiti documentary, 'Lakay,' Greg is going to have many sleepless nights. I'd highly recommend Gearcidy Productions.

From stunningly unique photos to complex marketing projects that gets your unique message across - Larry's your "man"! Last year, I hired Larry to do a personal photo shoot for my website, after I saw the level of creativity exhibited in his online portfolio. I was so pleased with the results that I retained him as the "creative director" for my business. His creative skills go far beyond photography into graphic design, branding, marketing collateral, websites and more. What I appreciate most about working with Larry is that: - he's not an order taker - he's a truly collaborative partner who willingly shares his expertise to improve your product and results - he invested the time with me upfront to learn about my business and what makes it unique - by doing so, he can create exceptional, on-point , on-time material with minimal time investment from me - when I provide the "high-level" detail for a project, he nails exactly what I'm looking for - AND - typically far surpasses what I was expecting in overall look and level of professionalism! Bottom line - Larry's very flexible, highly creative, talented and extremely likable guy who truly cares about making his clients happy. Great Chicago graphic design firm. These guys just killed it. They had me re-think my marketing and help come up with a killer campaign and branding strategy. They don't just blindly kick out stuff that just looks nice. They really look at your needs from a marketing standpoint. They are equally skilled at print work and digital work. They are technical and creative. You usually just get one or the other. They helped us figure out our social strategy as well. They help us with websites, brochures, ad campaigns, and logos, print advertising, signage, logos, flyers, letterheads, billboards, email templates, and business cards. Our suff looks great and the phone is ringing. I wish I could give them 6 stars!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

    • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
    • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
    • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

How much does it cost to create a logo?

Logo design is an important part of your company’s brand development. More than an image with text and color, a logo communicates the tone and personality of your company to your potential customers. Hiring a graphic designer with an appealing portfolio and quality reviews is a solid start to creating a winning logo design. The cost to create a logo can depend on how in-depth the marketing and design services you request are. Designers can create one logo in multiple formats (horizontal, vertical, etc.) to fit both your website and social media platforms, they can create a variety of designs for clients to select from, or they can create multiple logos for one client who needs branding for more than one venture. Logos may be text-only, text and image, or image-only. Many designers and design firms charge by the hour for their services, while other companies offer packages bundled with design services. Here are some examples of cost:

    • National average cost to hire a logo designer: $170-$250.
    • Average hourly rate for a freelance marketing consultant: about $150.
    • Tiered pricing for logo design packages from one firm:
      • Package One: $200 for three logo concepts, three rounds of revision, and a variety of format and color end designs.
      • Package Two: $350 for 10 logo concepts, unlimited rounds of revision, and a variety of format and color end designs.
      • Package Three: $550 for everything included in the Package Two, plus business card design, letterhead design, social media graphics and an email signature.
      • Package Four: $850 for everything in the Package Three, plus custom brand guidelines, which outline a strategy for creating a consistent branding in the client’s business.
