Craig responded almost immediately when I reached out to him, offering his availability and within a week he had all of our project completed plus we added a few more because he was so efficient and good at his work! Our projects ranged from pretty simple to some more complicated and Craig was able to troubleshoot and fix everything. We will definitely have Craig back again for more projects in our fixer upper old house, and likely will also contract with him for a major painting project. Craig is friendly and personable. Definitely highly recommend Craig!

Elle showed up on time and was very good about getting the cleaning done. She had the difficult job of deep cleaning my son's first house because the previous owners were fifthly, chain smokers and had numerous pets. My son was also repainting the house and had white paint on the flooring. Elle was able to be flexible with her schedule and come back to get the paint off the floors. She did a great job of deep cleaning the whole house making it move in ready for my son. Will recommend her to others!

I hired Jason to texture my ceilings, paint the living-room, two hallways and the dinning area. Last year he was part of a crew as a contractor, who remodeled my kitchen and did a phenomenal job that I decided to call him. To my surprise he was available and can start immediately. His demeanor and professionalism is very pleasant and he makes sure everything is done to please the costumer such as myself. He always made sure everything is cleaned to start a new day upon his return the following morning. I highly recommend Jason to anyone that needs a job done. My husband and I are making plans on remodeling our bathroom and having him come back to complete it in the very near future. See before and after pictures attached to this post Thanks Jason and Josh for a Job Well Done. Sincerely, Robin S., a very happy customer

He actually started and finished painting my house sooner than I expected. Their work was very professional. They did quality work. They left no mess and my house looks great. I would hire him again for other remodeling jobs. Thanks Rick, for your hard work. Terri

I think some cracks should have been filled before painting. Left a little paint on the floor next to the baseboards. Drops of paint left on floor that I cleaned. Family was polite and efficient.

Joe has been my neighbor for ten years and I appreciate the countless times I have been able to hire him for household and yard jobs, not to mention the times he has simply helped me out. He is reliable and efficient and does great work. He is very handy and can do many jobs of this nature. He has been instrumental in landscaping my yard and doing a great job of staining and painting for me. Whenever I need something done, I can count on Joe. And if I have a suggestion for improvement, he always responds positively. I highly recommend Handyman Joe!

Mr Fix it removed lathe and plaster, replaced it with dry wall, removed old carpet, prepared surface for painting, painted walls, dod yard work thatnO was unable to get to, and other odd jobs that I needed done. The price was right, the job was done timely and I would definitely use Mr Fix it again.

Ben did a great job! We were out of town and he coordinated the entire project over the phone, and even sent pictures when he was done. He finished everything within the day and we even rehired him to paint our garage and do an exterior power wash on a home that we're getting ready to sell.

I had Steve restore one of our rental units after a tenant had trashed it before they moved out. The little house looks great now. Steve repaired the plaster walls, hung three new doors and replaced trim. He then painted. We are extremely pleased with the work he did.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
