Introduction: Thank you for reading my profile! I have over 20 years of experience working with families. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History Education coupled with a Master of Arts in School Counseling, while also a current Illinois State Board of Education Certified Teacher and School Counselor. We reached out to Tom to help out with my son's college admissions and through the entire process , Tom was exceptional in guiding him and us. As daunting as it can be, he was thoroughly knowledgeable in curating the list of colleges and worked with us and my son to match his aspirations and goals. As college application deadlines approached, we decided the process would be less stressful with the services of a consultant to guide my son through this unique process. We found Quest College Consulting/ Tom through thumbtack and my son was immediately drawn to Tom’s personality, knowledge, and low key approach to developing and submitting college applications (better approach than I would have taken most likely). They developed a solid working relationship and Tom’s motivational approach helped my son a great deal (so I wasn’t nagging him regularly). I appreciated Tom’s approach, his availability, openness to feedback from parents, and drive to make each student successful. An example, my son initially only wanted to apply to one or two universities - Tom and I discussed the importance of applying to multiple schools and Tom agreed to discuss with my son, did so, and my kid ended up applying to 8 or 9 schools. Here in California this is especially important, since the well respected public schools have notoriously low acceptance rates (even for in-state applicants). There were other instances where Tom was open to my feedback and incorporated my thoughts into his conversations with my son. While Tom’s service is not inexpensive, I found immense value in not having to nag my kid, not arguing with him about the process, or getting frustrated by his inaction. I definitely recommend Tom’s service if your child would benefit from not working with her/his parents on what could be a stressful process for your high schooler. Another benefit, Tom is willing and able to work with parents and students on evaluating and picking acceptances and financial aid opportunities, all valuable services beyond the application process for your student. Set-up a first call with Tom… I think you’ll like what he provides and his personality. Bottom line: Tom gets the job done hassle free.

We firstly worked with another counselor for my son’s college application, but that counselor did have some problems with her schedules and she sometimes did not reply to our messages or phone calls so we were kind of delayed due to that. We finally decided to find a new counselor after a whole week waiting for a reply from her. Luckily, I found Tom. Tom always responded quickly no matter by messages or emails. He was very helpful with my son’s college application. He gave many feedbacks to my son’s essays and even reminded my son to send the revised essays to him for one more review before the submission. I highly recommend Tom !!!

We have hired Mr. Thomas for my son's college admission. We are in the first step but we are very pleased with Mr. Thomas's knowledge and working style. Mr. Thomas is highly knowledgeable and very professional. My son is interested in cricket sport. Though it was something new for Mr. Thomas, he collected information from all the possible resources and shared with my son. He listens to us very patiently. Though he is very busy , he tries to be flexible and accommodates meeting times per my son's schedule. So far our experience with Mr. Thomas is very good. I'll update the review once we complete the college application process.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer hourly rates up to packages of hourly sessions, which then would include additional time in between sessions for research and reading of essays.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer a free 30 minute consultation to meet with the family. Here I learn about the wants/needs of the family and where they are along the college process. I can then explain my services and how I can help them get from that point to admitted into the college of their choice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to being an Illinois State Certified Teacher and Counselor, I belong to the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) for professional growth opportunities
