Melvin and his crew are seriously amazing! So professional, efficient, and got my move out of a 3rd story, 1 bedroom apartment done in less than 90 minutes with absolutely no drama. They were right on time, called me about 15 minutes before arriving, and everything is packed in my uhaul for a cross-country move impeccably. Hire them!! Thank you Melvin!!

We hired three movers to move our 2br condo (on the third floor stairs only) to a single family home. We LOVED our movers - Gilbert and Arturo were the best! These guys are crazy strong and fast . I would use this service again request them specifically in a heartbeat.

These guys were fantastic. They moved me from north Chicago suburbs to Indianapolis. Thorough, thoughtful, professional, and efficient. I've used movers about 10 times for local and cross country moves, Coffey Bros. is in my top two. Hire them. You will not be disappointed.

The company we were renting the truck from changed our reservation at the last minute. We had the movers booked for 7:45 am, but had to change it to 1pm. I called Brian at 6am, he answered, and assured me he's do everything he could to get me helpers! They were able to get us two movers around 2 pm, and they had my 2 bedroom apartment loaded in just over 2 hours. They were beyond professional and courteous. I can not say enough nice things about Anthony and Richard, and I can't thank Brian enough for pulling through on a very hectic day! I strongly recommend!

I had two very difficult apartments to move out of and into - a 2nd floor walk up in Chicago with a very narrow, spiral staircase, and a 4th floor walk up in NYC with very little street parking available. The movers never blamed me for the challenge either apartment presented, but conducted their work swiftly and professionally. My furniture and boxes were out of the first apartment in an hour, and made it to my new apartment in just three days despite terrible weather across the entire Northeast. During the move-in, the movers could not find any street parking within 75 feet (poor guys!), which only meant I had to pay an extra 75$ fee, which I was already made aware of as a possibility in the estimate, and the foreman handled the situation courteously and professionally. Because of the massive distance the guys had to cover from truck to apartment on this end, the move took a little over two hours, but it was no less impressive! All of my furniture was completely undamaged and the only broken thing was a bowl that I personally had failed to pack securely. I paid exactly what the estimate predicted (minus the 75 feet distance fee) and was overall pleased with the communication and process. My moving coordinator went through the estimate with me in detail beforehand, explaining certain fees that applied to my situation (in my case, both cities required shuttles (rather than large semis) on city streets so there was a fee to transfer my stuff off of/onto smaller vehicles, there was also a small fee for the flights of stairs at each location, but this was minimal). I had to add a few items of furniture three days before the move, and my coordinator drafted a new estimate for me painlessly and easily despite the last minute notice (I believe you're allowed up to 2 business days before the move to make changes). This company provided me with one of the most decently priced estimates after I had been dealing with other, larger companies that were asking for $8000 for a move that STI did for just over $2000. I highly, highly recommend their service.

I had a great experience working with J.C. Movers. The movers they sent were fast and efficient while still careful with my things, and they were friendly and professional as well. The booking process was easy and the front desk was prompt in addressing all my concerns and answering all my questions. I highly recommend them!

Emmet and his partners were very resourceful and capable with our spring 2016 long distance, cross country move. Emmet's customer service was top notch and he was very friendly with my children (which they loved!) He was sensitive to fragile items and was able to securely wrap and pad other valuable items. His organization of the truck was amazing as well. Emmet's work ethic and professionalism were what made me know I would call him for a local or long distance move again.

Moving business is very competitive. Most moving companies are really improving their games in order to keep up. I recently hired In & Out Moving to handle my relocation and I was absolutely surprised seeing how efficient and professional these guys are! From their timing to their skills, everything was top notch. It took the movers such a small time to finish loading everything from my 3 bedroom house. Not even a glass was delivered broken! The fierce competition also meant a low quote for me. It really is a movers market these days!

After getting several quotes for my upcoming relocation I narrowed it down to All Around Van Lines. Picking the right mover can be hit or miss and I am glad I picked the right movers. The movers were on time and the ease with which they handled my fragile stuff was quite commendable. I was so worried about having damages but there were none. The price came in lower than three other quotes I got and there were no surprises or unforeseen overages. The crew and my sales rep were great from start to finish so here is an extra pat on your backs. I really thank them for providing me the great service at an affordable price.

When I learned that I was going to move from Orlando to Grand Forks, I was very unsure of how I would get my things from Florida to North Dakota. One quick call to Alliance Movers, and they took excellent care of me. Their movers were courteous and got the job done without breaking anything fragile. The price was very manageable and fair. Alliance Movers eliminated much of the stress from a cross-country move like mine. I will 100% recommend this company to anyone making this move, or any move, for that matter. Thank you, Alliance Movers, for making my move easy and stress free.

I used Supreme Moving and Storage to move my a fourth floor apartment into storage with no elevator. Not one time did I hear a complaint. They were very professional, worked very hard and were courteous, and very careful the entire time. They did not stop until the job was complete. The rep worked with me to give me the best price possible. We recently moved our house from TX to Va and used a different company and the service did not compare to Supreme. I only wish I had found them for that move first. They did a better job than the big name movers that I used for the cross country move. I will definitely use them in the future if I have a moving need.

It is a long distance we were moving. But we just had to move and we hired My Chicago Moving to handle the job simple because of their good reputation as long distance movers. One of my friends moved last month and he complained about some of his stuffs going missing. I was quite concerned about that too. It was a cross country move after all and the movers may have a hundred reasons why things could just disappear. Luckily, when both vans reached on time and I checked the inventory, nothing went missing. Everything was delivered in the state they left my house. The final bill matched the estimated quote. It turned out to be the easiest move ever. I felt totally relieved and grateful.

United relocation group handled our move with great care at a very reasonable cost. My primary reason for hiring them was their quote. I’m happy to report that they didn’t cross that estimate in the final bill. I have heard stories about inefficient movers but the movers of United relocation group were nothing like them. They were prompt, skilled and always ready to help. They really outperformed my expectations. They were done with all the packing and loading in a short amount of time. The quality of their work is top notch. The delivery was made on time with all my belongings unharmed. I'm grateful to this company.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
