As an airline pilot, sitting up to 13 hours a day, being gone from home 4 days a week, eating out and living from a suitcase...a fit, nutritious lifestyle is almost impossible. ALMOST. I am blessed, being active and playing sports has come naturally to me. But growing up I was always the "bigger" girl. Always had an excuse, blamed my plump bones for not being fit. Far from speedy, hated to run...BUT dreamed big!! I would give my heart and soul everytime. I knew I could change my bodyshape if I really tried. Thanks to great friends, they started me out weight lifting and changing my eating habits, which really helped get my fitness ball rolling... mixed martial arts has become my savior. Victory Martial Arts in Chicago has truly transformed me inside and out. I've not only lost 35 lbs and 10%of pure fat, I've learned so much about self-defense and myself. This is a great place to learn self defense and other things. Don is kind, patient, knowlegable in all that he does. He is a great teacher. I have learned alot from our private classes. I will continue going to him as long as he is around!! Great place!!
Patti is extremely knowledgeable about women’s self defense. Her class was thorough including oral, written, and hands on. When I had questions she answered them in a way I could understand. I felt the class was reasonably priced, although you can’t put a price on your personal safety. I would not hesitate to recommend her classes and would even take it again myself to keep up the skills I learned.
Danny is an exceptional trainer, he not only focuses on the physical development of his clients but also their nutritional and emotional needs. Danny is very professional, even while keeping things fun and engaging. I appreciate his constant communication via email and text; checking on how Iâm doing, offering support and confirming appointments when changes were made. I also appreciated his scheduling flexibility and respecting my scheduling requirements. Danny assessed my training needs and designed a program that helped with my weight loss goals as well as address some of my limitations because of health issues. He changed our program so that it was never dull, was continuously challenging and kept me moving towards my personal goals. Often when I thought I couldnât do an exercise or movement, Dannyâs encouragement helped me to push through and succeed. In addition to physical assessments, we did weekly weigh-ins so that I could see my weight loss progression. Which is highly motivating for me. He reviewed my nutrition logs and discussed choices/changes I could make to ensure I continued dropping pounds instead of hitting a plateau. With Danny as my trainer I was able to lose over 95 pounds and continue moving forward on my journey of self-improvement. I cannot thank him enough. I would, and have, recommend Danny as a personal trainer for anyone looking to make position changes in the lifeâ¦best investment to make in yourself.
Coach Slavica is great! I had never taken lessons or done any type of self defense instruction before. A friend of mine and student of hers referred me to her for lessons in Krav Maga. I was skeptical about whether it was for me, but seeing the passion with which she teaches and talks about Krav got me really fired up. She doesn't just teach me what to do, but she explains from a fundamental level why I'm doing it so I have a full understanding of what Im trying to accomplish with my techniques. She has also been flexible in scheduling which is a big plus because I have a crazy schedule. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I took a self defense class with Dylan at Players U. It was an awesome experience and I tell everyone about it. He was a great teacher and very professional. Patient and thorough, all Mom and girls should take this class. Boys being bullied should too! Just so they have an option to defend themselves. He teaches self confidence and Core strength thats beneficial to other sports and dance. We look forward to coming back this fall.
Our 5 year old son has been taking Jiu Jitsu at Thresold Martial Arts for 5 months and is loving it! We first heard about Threshold when we saw a demonstration they did at Park Ridge Libray last summer. Now I am now reviewing my own positive experience. My husband is a police officer and urged me to sign up for a women's self defense class being offered at Threshold. I was hesitant because I work and have two young kids, but I thought it would be a good experience and it has far surpassed my expectations. The instructor is a Jiu Jitsu black belt and the owner of the gym who really cares about teaching and keeping people safe. I could go on and on, but bottom line is this is a really family friendly place - so much more than we expected. Even with my limited free time, I am making it a priority to continue my training. Before we sent our daughter off to college, we wanted to be sure she had some basic self defense training. Krav Panim El Panim or KAPAP is the Hebrew acronym for face-to-face combat. It is the original combat system of CQB, hand-to-hand combat and self-defense, employed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). KAPAP (Krav Maga) fight tactics originated in the 1940s and were used by the Palmach (Jewish Strike Brigades) forces in fighting for the independence of the state of Israel. It is extremely rare to find a Black Belt who is willing to work with others for personalized one on one training as I do. I have the luxury of working with so many other Black Belt instructors that I may spend more time one on one with students rather than only being able to see people in a class setting alone. I believe class settings are wonderful at helping you learn much material. However I realize that personal training sessions are the best way for others to learn self defense, or work out more effectively given many different factors in our lives.
