I agreed to take in my sister's dog for a few months-what a mistake!! He became a full time job. Destroyed every pair of shoes in site and worse, constant biting was provoked by anything as simple as a sneeze. I was terrified to have my grandson anywhere near him. Matthew evaluated the situation and determined doggie retreat was needed in order to quickly turn around the dangerous situation. AND IT WORKED! That dog is completely chilled, no more biting or destructive behavior. Best of all no more biting and he and my grandson are buddies. Matthew was great with coaching me through the ordeal and working with my sister once she got her dog back. He is flexible, dogs love him, has a big heart and knows how to correct problems that other trainers my sister had engaged failed to do. A hopeless situation had a happy conclusion.Jan 6, 2018VerifiedMatthew G.'s reply
Being able to help and provide a better life for all of you was a very rewarding experience. My goal is always to show people what's possible with their dogs and the lives they can live with proper training and behavior management. You now all have that chance to live healthy, balanced lives without fear or anxiety. Thank you for giving me the opportunity and I wish you all the absolute best in your lives together when you're snuggling up at night, peacefully!
Meet Sunny. Looks are deceiving. This little guy was meaner than sin...in fact it was suggested by family member that he be put down. Matthew quickly assessed the situation and gave us methods that resulted in a calm, friendly, loving and loyal doggie. No more biting. When Sunny tries to slip into bad behavior mode, Matthew has been generous in sharing his knowledge, so reinforcing the training is easy to do. I'm also particularly happy to board Sunny with Matthew where he gets continuous attention, exercise and is not stuck in a crate. Matthew is very passionate about his craft and truly a dog's best friend. Cathy in Downers GroveNov 25, 2017VerifiedMatthew G.'s reply
Training Sunny was a great experience. It was exceptionally rewarding seeing him evolve in such a short amount of time. Seeing his progression with other dogs, other people, little kids, his food, and so much more is why I love doing what I do. Any and every opportunity to help a dog become happier allows the opportunity to make a happier home and family as well. I'm very happy you sought the assistance and have continued to seek advice when needed!
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My prices are very fair and resemble my love of the career. Many trainers will charge as much as $200 for a private session which is simply uncalled for in my mind. I love what I do and I love to enhance the lives of other people and other pets by what I do. Charging $35/hour will help every owner to get the best training they will ever experience and not senselessly kill their wallets.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Every customer receives their own dedicated attention and course of training. I analyze the personality of the dog(s) and the needs of the owner. I develop the most appropriate steps of training best suited to the owner's ability. I show the steps for each method and teach why they work and the purpose behind each and every method. I always follow up once the training is complete to make sure that even weeks later, everything is as it should be without problems.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I am an active student of dog training, dog behavior, and dog intelligence and will remain a student throughout my life. Our knowledge of canines is just on the forefront of comprehending their capabilities. I continue to expand my knowledge working with therapy dogs, sniffing dogs, police dogs, rescue dogs, agility dogs, personal service and more. Having studied countless books, collaborated with dozens of other trainers, studied numerous different training concepts and having worked with countless different breeds including adopted rescue dogs provides me significantly more experience and knowledge in the field.
